In a nutshell, this is gonna sound obvious... but you need to select the strains you are wanting to cross... grow a few examples of each out... select the best male you end up with, and best female from the other strain, pollenate the females buds (flowers) with the pollen that the male produces. The female bud/s will then produce seeds when fully mature, which will be the start of your new strain... in order for the new strain to be commercially viable the strain would then need to be "stabilised" as the first batch of seed from the initial cross would be full of different phenotypes... ie every seed would contain a different combination of the characteristics of the parent plants.
This is achieved by back crossing, I'd imagine that involves growing your new strain from seed and pollenating the ones with most desirable characteristics with the original father. There is bound to be much more to it than that, I think thats the simple version. All looks like very interesting stuff, dying to get into it when my situation allows! to grow a new strain.. you do backcross.. you breed mom and pops.. then the seeds planted... now look for the charactoristics you want your new strain to have and back cross your origanal mom and pops with there babies.. a true ibl is imbred mom to daughter.. then grandma to grand daughter. and so on.. this is to be done until everything is the same.. usually around the fifth batch of seeds.. it takes a long time to stabilize.. or you have uneven growing patterns.. and random freaks in the mix..
anybody got a different bit of info about this let me know... |
