Exclamation VIDEO: Our late Ken Gorman in 2003, legalization debate

This VHS tape finally came back into my life after well over a decade. I had given it to a friend whose boxes it became buried in when they moved across the country, but it was finally found recently and mailed to me so that I could transfer it to YouTube by way of one of those devices that can be hooked up to the USB port and digitize VHS material. I initially received the tape from Ken Gorman himself. I met him and stayed with him in 2003 when I traveled to Colorado for part of my studies, and while this video also happens to be 2003, I didn't receive the tape from him then, but rather in the mail about a year later.

Right now is the first time I've watched the episode probably since 2006. Given that this debate took place in Denver, it is quite interesting indeed to watch again for the first time this many years later, with the hindsight of History: Colorado and Washington were the first two states to vote to legalize fully for all use, on Election Night 2012, and Colorado was the first state to open legal recreational shops on New Year's Day of 2014. History has shown that the arguments and sentiments of the anti-legalization side of the table have been increasingly rejected by mainstream society.

For those too young to remember, Ken Gorman was a pioneering member of this site and he moderated what was then called the Activism & Politics forum. He organized street actions and rallies including the 420 rallies at the Capitol steps in downtown Denver. Not only was his YaHooka screen name "Governor," but he actually ran for governor of Colorado has a write-in candidate. He was killed when someone broke into his home and shot him in February 2007. The murder remains unsolved. It is tragic that he did not live to see the results of election Night 2012 and all of the progress that has been made since then. But he got the ball rolling and the people of Colorado finished the game.

Thanks.

I mainly posted at Yahooka during the George W Bush Administration. I only very rarely lurk and sometimes go more than a year without logging in. I will say it does make me feel a bit sad to see that it is not the fast freewheeling forum it was a decade ago, but I guess I played a role in that myself, by posting and visiting less and less.

If I had made this post 8 or 9 years ago, there would probably be 25 thank-yous by now, with comments spilling into a second page. Unfortunately a lot of people who would probably appreciate this post will not pop in and see it.

Some highlights from Gorman...

In response to the hosts query about how he was arrested for his activism:

"Oh absolutely. I sold medical marijuana all the time. Well, as much as I could."

Regarding the usefulness of "marijuana" i.e. the hemp plant:

"You can use it from the time you're born until the time you die. From diapers to Depends."

Regarding his activism:

"I advertised in the paper that I was selling marijuana. It took them 3 years to catch me!!!"

Regarding hemp history and the book The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer:

"The War of 1812 was fought for marijuana!"

I remember you well. You were adamant about the official 9/11 story to be bullshit(I agree). Do you realize your last post was at 9:11?

Well, I'm on the West Coast so it says 6:11, at least when I'm logged in.

He supports the "Pro-Family platform. The stupid senator from Saudi Aurora. Gorman is the big time criminal here. From diapers to Depends. Big lipped niggars and lazy spics are smoking that dangerous marijuana.
