quick how to use acrylics for image transfers:




U will need a canvas of some sort


some type of acrylic paint, medium or gesso. Golden brand makes the best everything.


any image printed using a ink jet printer. make the contrast and saturation high for best results. Black and white pictures work the best but u can use color pictures as i will show later.


Here i mix up some red acrylic paint with some acrylic gloss. No exact amount needed.

Now i cover the ink side with paint. U will get different effects depending on how much paint used. If u use a lot of paint (like i did here) the image will transfer better but u can achieve some really cool effects of u use just enough paint to cover the image too


This image has just enough paint to cover the image and will kind of be faded and aged.


Then using a brayer i put the image paint side down and smoothed it on the canvas. REMEMBER the image u use will be flipped up side down like in a mirror so flip text before u print it out. On the other example i painted a thin skin of red over the back of the paper and gave it wrinkles in doing so.


This is the color part of the image so i made sure to just use gloss gel and covered the image and again use a brayer to get it on wrinkle free

let dry for 3 days. I only let the color piece dry 2 days and paid the price.


ok so get a spray bottle thing and mist the top of paper a bit. Then take a slightly wet rag and rub in cirlces. u will get the feel for when to add more water. To much water can take the ink out of the canvas sometimes its done to get a older look.


just keep rubbing and misting and eventually u will get something like this. Its all trial and error. This is the one i wanted to look aged


the color isnt as great as i would have liked. I should have let it dry longer

the last pic looks like crap but its the gloss bouncing back the flash on my wifes crappy camera.

These are just examples. i plan to continue to add more elements to the red one
