Need people help
Hey guys.
I don't know if G&S is the right place for this, but I figure a lot of members have been through college or at least in my shoes. ![]() I'm taking a class in which I have to do a film analysis with a couple other people. We have to do the analysis and show/explain our findings to the class in a 25 minute presentation. I'm having a real hard time getting them to help do really anything, and the project is due the Thursday after next. I have done all the work so far; picked out the film, chose what aspect to analyze, taken the time to draw up what we need to do, I even made a couple page document on all the main characters with pictures. Today I was supposed to get together with one of my partners, and she never showed up. I would like to believe that she just "didn't hear back from me" about getting together, but she hasn't sent me an email all day so I'm figure she just blew me off. I was at the Library, at the same building we are taking classes in! Well sorry to kind of get on a rant about that, but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas about what I should do. I can do the project on my own, but I need my partners to do the presentation, and I don't want to get fucked over because I got shit partners. There isn't a lot of work in this class so it would have a significant impact on my overall grade.

I'm assuming by this post you don't have the balls to be confrontational with those fucks?
The only legit way I can think of fixing it is to tell them to buck the fuck up. Laying it all on you isn't right. If you're not comfortable with that, email your prof. and see if you can work something out. I dunno, kinda a toughy Hope it works out man

I would talk to the proff, see what he says, first. I'm sure he has seen it before. My wife says that in groups there is often a survey of other members at the end. Maybe if that is the case you can just say, ''lets be real here, I did almost everything, make sure you are honest on the critique'" She has had sucess with asking people kindly.
First I'd talk to you Proff, especially if you didn't pick groups and were assigned, he knows that people are going to do better and worse than others. It's a tight spot to be in. Getting stressed and having a good project vs Fuck all make your part look sweet and the rest looks bad and you all fail. Not as simple as Sacrifice vs Pride. Talk to your Proff man. Baby steps. Keep working, keeo on the other members.

Problem #1) never set up a group meeting on Friday.
I had group projects for pretty much every assignment in business school. It sucks to get shitty team mates. She's probably enjoying her Friday. You should do the same. Send her an email asking what time on Sunday she'd like to meet. |

This was really the last straw for me. If I don't hear back from them tomorrow I'm going to give them a bit of hell. Quote:
Sorry to get off subject. After finding out about this film project I told my professor that this girl doesn't come to class prepared, doesn't take initiative, etc. He told me that we just communicate very differently and will be able to make it, and just to stick with it. I think he noticed how poor progress we were making so he added this other partner. He's not a regular professor though. He is a bit of a Hippy, and honestly reminds me of you Sage. In other words, he's a great guy, and because I know he is very intellegent I listen to what he has to say. He looks like you too actually. I think he is trying to find the best in these other people. But I'll certainly send him an email and talk to him about the issue. We're at a point where I need their ideas to go any further in the project, but if I don't hear from them by tomorrow I'm just going to have to decide what to do myself. It's not fair to me, this is a class I'm paying for and a grade I'm earning. I'm getting A's in all my class as far as I know, and they are not going to fuck this up for me.

Originally we were supposed to meet on Thursday. We normally have class that day but it was canceled for some teacher workshop ( ). I didn't hear back from anyone and my partner said she was going to be in school on Friday and said it would work for her. I like the last part, just an absolute pigeon hole The best thing is that none of us have jobs, so it's not like they can come up with any good excuses. I just got laid off, she doesn't work and my other partner worked for a store that just closed.EDIT: I'll take your advice

Sorry to hear about that Osirus. I've been pretty fortunate thus far and haven't been placed into a group with incompetent ass holes. If things don't start getting better I would tell your professor. You're absolutely right, you're spending thousands of dollars for this education that you're working hard for, nobody else who isn't taking things seriously should be allowed to compromise your GPA. And I think we all hate stupid chicks like that. Why even go to school and pay for the education if you're not going to take advantage of it?

It wouldn't surprise me. Honestly it's like going to high school, again. Most of the students don't give a rat's ass. It's too bad we live in a place where such misdirected minds are harbored so well at such a place of opportunity.
And for what it's worth, it's a community college. It may not seem as steep as a big university but it's still college and it's still my money.

Oh fuckin' hell.
Talked to the prof today. Quote:
So I have class with them tomorrow. Do you think I should be a hard ass and yell at them? Or should I just tell them I'm pissed off without losing my cool? I think if I can talk to them without losing it they might see me as some sort of leader that can cope with stress and hopefully try to help with the project. Either way I know I have to be straight up with them and explain they have to contribute or fuck off.

Well hope you the wisest of words and most honest answer from them all. It's atleast nice if someone was like ' Ah f-it I don't care man you're doing a great job ' There is a honest mesurement of their true feelings. Just be ready to hear their answer more importantly perhaps.
Love Sage

I would prefer to take an Incomplete since the prof doesn't seem to be of much support. If you cant get the group thing worked out--work out the "I" on time and you won't have any problems--don't work it out and you get a faililng grade. I would be hard pressed to give someone else credit for the work I had done--read the child's book about chicken little just so you can get a laugh at the whole situation--heck, maybe you should send a copy to your partners. (BTW Fridays are bad days for meetings and so are Mondays.)

been through this many a time in university.
first thing you want to do is talk to your prof. tell them your side of the story. cover yourself and try to get it done on your own. your prof may be able to find you a new group or give you some leeway, just be honest with them.
