Quitting Weed... Getting Sick?
I'm aware of the irony of posting certain complications I've had from quitting dope on a marijuana forum, but I feel I'm more likely to get relevant information here rather than anywhere else. Please, no preaching on why I'm quitting... I have nothing against anyone who blazes and can certainly see myself smoking (on the odd occasion) in the future.
Anyways, I've been smoking grass since I was 14 years old (summer going into grade 9). Since then, I've steadily worked my way from it being a weekend thing, to it being every so often, to every day, to several times a day every day. It's been every day for me for pretty much 4-5 years and multiple times a day the last 2 or 3. Leading up to the summer I made the resolution to change a lot of my daily routines and habits, and one of the ways of 'shocking my system' to help facilitate that change was to stop smoking weed cold turkey for a month. I made 4/20 the last day, as I felt it fitting and felt I would be able to get as high as possible and pay my respects to the relationship me and grass has had over these many years. It's been a month now, and I have not taken a single hit nor had the desire to; I really feel this could stick. However, despite the clear head and feeling of sobriety that has been long lost, I've been sick for pretty much the last 2 1/2 weeks. It started as a typical head cold with sore throat and cough, gradually got a little better over the week, then I started feeling bad again. So, I went to the doctor's about 10 days ago to get some antibiotics and they helped A LOT, as of Monday and Tuesday I felt perfect. But, (and I think getting right back into working out after taking a week off has something to do with it) as of yesterday evening and most of today I've started feeling that general malaise once more. It's not debilitating and I'm not feeling completely miserable, but I'm definately not well; it's frustrating as hell! What I'm asking is whether or not this could just be my immune system being compromised as it's in the process of 'detoxing' the copious smoke and resin I've put my lungs over these years? I've read about such things with cigs, but I don't feel weed is completely comparable. I will say I've been coughing up specks of black in my phlegm the last few weeks (with one SOLID half-dime sized chunk of black a few days ago), so I know my lungs are doing something of a purge... but I'm just wondering if I'm freaking out too much about being sick for so long?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would say your head cold has nothing to do with the weed...or lack of. Head colds can last for a couple weeks.

ive been cold turkey since the day before my wedding (april 12)
I haven't been sick or anything. My insomnia is back again of course (something I have naturally and masked with weed) and im a little more irritable, and i cough up that black shit as well (i did smoke cigs but quit that a few months before weed), but I don't think getting sick has anything to do with it. other than that stuff, i had some really bad back pain for like a week, but once again, I think that was just something I was covering with the pot initially, not something i got from quitting pot. so just hold out, no worries, it will all get better.

First of all, you say that the antibiotics helped? Then what you have is not a common cold. You probably have some sorta flu bug.
Secondly, you are probably more in-tune with your body right now because of stopping smoking and your other lifestyle changes. You were already looking for changes in your body because of that. So now you are noticing every little thing. Thirdly, when you were sick in the past, you probably used weed to help you feel better. This time you are not, so maybe you feel worse than usual. As long as you don't have a fever, you'll be just fine. Oh, and, don't overdo it until your better...that includes working out

well because i lived in wisconsin first, then new mexico without a liscense....
by the time i got to cali and got my pot liscense i had already covered up all that stuff and being high was just becoming normal for me. but at the same time, shouldn't medicating cure you of the problem? which for some things it most certainly did not, for me. some people it may, but for me it didn't for things like insomnia thank you, msicidron

Well now that I'm not rushing off to work I have time for an actual reply...
Yeah, I think what I have was more of a flu bug since when it first started I had a fever and felt dizzy and whatnot with a pounding headache... I'm just finishing the anti-biotics today but I think I'm starting to feel a bit better (sleeping through the night DOES help). No, I don't smoke tobacco, and when I was sick I didn't really smoke weed to feel better, I just blazed because my being sick is never really debilitating to the point where I'm bed ridden. I've been trying to sweat it out with the gym and running but that only seems to weaken my body and give whatever I have a chance to mess me up. I took all of last week off from the gym and only monday did I workout and tuesday I ran (just before and after the run is when I started feeling bad again). I HATE skipping the gym and losing basically 2 weeks of working out, but if I'm still not 100% I'm only prolonging this. I think I just need to let my body do it's thang... but goddamn, waiting is killing me!

i suggest sweating with external heat, like a sauna or other ways to heat your body up without the hard physical exercise.
i think you have the right idea by taking it easy for a while and concentrate on healing. also remember to reduce carbs while you are less active much love ct |
