It's not a matter of waiting. It's an active and agressive approach to searching for VARIOUS people to network with. You want to create a group of people around you with who you share the same general paths in life. It's the whole master mind theory from Hill. Read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. Having more then 1 mind 'on the same team' so to speak creates an group consciousness that can accomplish far more then just one person. This is what you need to have to find the 'dream job's, in my opinion.

i very much an a corporate whore and have been for years... and don't give me that 'working mans' bullshit... everyone does what they do to live, and personally i love what I do (i hate the company i work for now though) and while i don't have any pity for people like that i don't think i'm any better or any worse then someone who has to do manual labor for a living

i speak from real experience. it AINT easy to fire someone in a mid-large corporation... anyone who thinks it is, probably is talking out of there ass. We had a guy who did nothing for THREE YEARS before they could finally 'lay him off'... and even then, they didn't fire him, the 'layed him off' and he got a sick severence package with full pay, benefits, etc...

but then again.. he *was* black... lol

... but in all seriousness, i see this every day, all over the place.. .as long as you dont come into work drunk or something you will be fine

Show up on time.
Don't complain about anything.
Do not let your boss see any kind of weakness.

Actually, I work for one of the biggest and most successful corporations in the world. Everyone is a number, and everything is numbers. It's also the biggest FUBAR-o-rama on the planet. It's total chaos, and no one, from our managers to the guys at the very top, seem to have a clue. Most of my work (and really, most of everyone's work) ends up serving no purpose at all. I'm an engineer, and most of what I design never gets made, and if it does get made, it never gets used. Priorities change daily, but organization of effort toward a goal is never a priority.

Not caring is not my first choice, but it is the only way to maintain my sanity. When I gave 110%, I burnt out quick, with nothing to show for it. I DO need a new job, but unemployment in Cali is still over 12% so I'm fairly stuck at the moment. I've been reading and learning alot about economics and finance so that I can learn to make money from home. I'm also going to school to get an accounting degree so I can be self-employed one day. It's just that, in the short term, I still have to play the clusterfuck game, and act like everyone is actually doing something and I'm part of the winning team.

Makes me want to puke out my ass.

i work for a similar (NYSE) corporation

chaotic, with wrong priorities and very uneven/unfair pay distribution

just remember this man, I work SERVING ICE CREAM. i work at ben and jerrys and it sucks. i mean im still going to school and all, i really need to finish college and get a better job cause even though i get to smoke weed in the freezer this job sucks ass.

just remember that most jobs suck, some are definitely better than others tho. look for a job that you might enjoy better while continuing working at your current situation, and then repeat if you start feeling the same way again.

...or you could take a risk and go into business for yourself

^Way I look at it if your going to work work fucking hard, and!...make sure that the hours your putting in ultimately benefit YOURSELF more then anybody else. Seem selfish? Don't know what to tell ya. That's Business? Too cliche...oh well.
Anyway...going into business for yourself in anything, even just cutting lawns or selling door to door, is a GREAT asset to ANYBODY'S resume' and skill set. Learning the very foundation and basics that go into running a day to day business is priceless. You will understand the struggles and necessities that go through the minds of people that run companies. You will learn how to sell yourself to them by actually developing business strategy!

But...until you got money to start, work for the company that pay's highest and has the highest probability of getting noticed and promoted (or people to just know).

sounds very familiar... i have a feeling every corporation once they exceed 50,000 employees becomes a gigantic clusterfuck where 20% of the people make 80% of the money for the company and everything is completely disorganized and overall just fucked

I work in an office. I sit and talk to the three co-workers in my cube all day long about anything and everything. It makes sitting in front of a PC much more fun. Plus we have people popping in and telling stories all day long. We take "breath breaks" and step outside and hang for 5 or ten minutes every now and then. However, I realize if you have an uptight work environment this may not be possible or even part of your problem. There are a lot of variables involved. Personally I HATE manual labor so I like my job very much yet still bitch about it.

Try working in a real restaurant on Cape Cod from 13 to 22 and doing everything from washing dishes, to prep and the worst part, waiting tables (although by far the best money). Got to kiss ass to ass-holes and their little brats 5 nights a week and touch dirty stuff constantly. NEVER AGAIN
