So I've been dating this girl off and on (super casually) for about a year, with the entire summer off. Things got back to normal once school started back, and within a month or so we were officially a couple.

She comes from a pretty religious/strict family, and hinted at that all last year that she didnt want to get serious because this was a pretty big reason, which i took as just pressure from her parents and stuff.

Anyways, we were talking a couple days ago and surprise surprise, after 5 weeks of being a couple, she told me she could see herself marrying me, and that i would need to convert religions to continue being with her.

I adore this girl and would do just about anything for her, except for this. What the fuck am i supposed to do/say ?

been through that. not the explicit mentioning of marriage but thats because i got out before that point. you gotta realize that your lifestyles probably arent compatible, that makes for an easy break up IMO

Just tell her you don't feel comfortable doing things this way. Support her beliefs and suggest a compromise. Maybe go to church with her to let her and her parents know that you do truly care about her and to give yourself a chance to truly get a feel for what it is she's asking you to do and take it from there.

But my true thoughts are:

WHY? Why or what does she want from you doing this?

If you know it'd be half hearted then you should say that to her, why she'd want a half hearted commitment to religion, because that half hearted religious 'journey', might ultimately lead to a half hearted feeling about the whole relationship rather than just respecting your opinions on the matter. Which may be somewhere in the middle of yes and no.

A lot of people sit through church each week, and go about their lives otherwise.

On the other hand if she is really that great, maybe you'd enjoy seeing a part of her life that is important to you.

If she wants you to convert for her parents sake, or to make things easier. I don't know man. Once the ball is rolling on a story, you have to keep it going, and that is tough.

Good luck man, maybe just have fun while you can and it wasn't the right time.
