Jacked?
Well, I have a suspicion that I may have been taken for a ride by a supposed friend.
About six weeks ago my friend asked if I wanted to go in on a full lb of nug. I told him I only had $120 I was able to budget for weed (1/4 oz) He was cool with it as he said he was getting a price cut for the amount he was buying and the $120 would get me 3/8ths oz. So I gave him the cash and waited. A week later he bought a laptop from me (old Pentium III with XP) and instead of cash I asked for an 1/8th. He was cool with it and said I would be getting 1/2oz. Two weeks ago, he said the weed would be here on Feb 1st. No problems. On Saturday, his friend came up early to deliver the weed. I was out of town with family but returned later that night. Anyway, long story made short: My friend made up some excuse on why I couldn't come over that night to pick up the weed and I said cool, I'll drop by in the morning. Weed will still be there right? Well, Sunday morning I get a call at 8am with my friend 'upset' at me for no paying him back a $10 bill he loaned me last Sunday (although he told me at the time, and twice later that week, that it wasn't a loan and I didn't need to repay him) and acting all out of sorts over it. He refuses to answer my calls or texts now and has stated he is pissed and not to call him, he'll call me. Over $10? If anyone should be pissed it should be me as it seems he took my $120 plus my laptop. I'm not sure how to go from here. My first reaction is to confront him over the fact that he owes me either $180 or 1/2oz of nug and jacking a friend like that is bullshit. This could only turn into a fist fight which I suspect I would lose. I don't mind fighting or an ass kicking, but the fact is I avoid them if I can. My only other reaction is to let things be and hope he comes around and makes good on his promise. I'm still pissed that he could be a really good guy and great friend but still screw me over like this. A smoking friend I told my dilemma to said their reaction would be to tell my 'friend' if our friendship is over because of some $10 disagreement, fine, but business is business and he owes that 1/2oz of weed as promised. My smoking friend said that if this friend that owes me didn't pay or tells me to f-off, they would drop an anonymous tip into the police. (I don't snitch so that's out...) Sidenote: he is an (ex-)Blackstone from Chicago (seen the tats and hear the stories all the time) and I'm just a middleclass white boy from the sticks. We almost always get along fine but every time he thinks I may have done something "shady" he is instantly pissed and ready for a fight...and every time I have proven to him his anger is misplaced and I hadn't been "shady". I'm not sure if this is how innercity folks are, where you could be best friends but one wrong word something taken out of context and all that is forgotten. What my white friends and even other black friends would just shrug off or talk out with me, this friend is ready to get into a fist fight over first. After I prove he is over reacting, it is all apology and forgiveness. I'm just not sure how to handle this besides possibly writing it off and telling everyone I know that smokes how this guy's word is BS. If I get my weed, I'm done as a friend with him. If I don't get my weed, I'm going to let everyone know his word is dirt. Last edited by Tai-pan; 02-01-2010 at 07:37 PM. |

Snitches get stitches... Your smoking friend deserves a smack for even thinking about that.
It sounds like this guy is trying to fuck you over. From the way you describe it you shouldn't escalate things to a fight (would it even stop there?). I say cut your losses and never front someone money for shit again. Anyone who needs the money beforehand is just a middleman anyways, you need to find better hookups. Sorry to hear man, but a lot of us have been there I'm sure. |

My first thought is: you don't wanna get in a fight with an ex gang member. Let's say hypothetically you and this guy fought, and you say you would most likely lose. Depending on how bad you lost, your hospital bill would be five times the hassle that this has already turned out to be, and that's if you lost.
If you won, you still don't have your weed or laptop back, and are how much less likely to ever get it resolved? I'm trying to think outside of the box...and i come up with: what would happen if you gave him the ten bucks he's all pissed off about back (granted you shouldn't have to, but with the situation..) and try to get back on good enough terms to at least get your shiz and never talk to him again? It's not the best option but there aren't a whole lot of good ones. Best of luck.

I figured as much. It's damn dry up here and hard to find good connects. Hell if they didn't give you a felony and $10,000 fine for one plant (if caught) I'd grow my own.
I guess I'll just take the lumps and roll with it. (And you are right, I did slap my friend upside the head for even mentioning it. Damn cracker) Tricto, did try that but he went off like I was insulting him by offering the money after he brought the issue up. I think GrandPuba has it...I got jacked and it is a learning experience I'll never forget: Never give your money to someone to hold or act as a middleman. Once they have your money, you are screwed. I would crack him over the head with the 3 iron I keep in my trunk. He senses you are week and afraid of him and is taking advantage of this psychologically. Show him otherwise. This is the only thing ass-holes like this respect. Then, after cracking him tell him you want YOUR money and he can take his measly $10 and shove it up his ass.
I grew up on the lower Cape and these kids from an upper Cape high school thought they were all gangsters and shit (Ice Tea was hot at the time). They came to one of our parties trying to start fights and one flashed a gun. Me and a bunch of my surfing buddies beat the shit out them and we never saw them at one of our parties again.

being jacked is like a free report about who is your friend and who is a dirtbag. at least now you know this dude is a dirtbag. if you pretend like you think he is going to pay you back he will probably avoid you for the rest of your life (a favour).

Thanks to all you for this. Though I can understand wellfleation's line of thinking (and perhaps they are right in the fact that this guy is taking advantage of the fact that I am intimidated by him) I don't think 1/2oz is worth what may happen to me if I end up on the losing end. I'm especially worried about the gang aspect of things so I'm just going to let this slide like Captain Cannabis said. I'll pull the "nice and naive white cracker" routine and pretend like he is going to pay me back at some point.

you gave him money for weed, then you gave him a lap top for weed, and you never got the weed from either??
ahhah if i read that right, you deserve it. no offense man, you have to grow a pair. this is a case of bad judgement from the start, you should have never trusted him.. white boys like you shouldn't be dealing with tattooed ex-gang members. don't give some one money unless you won't mind never seeing it again. drug dealers aren't retail stores, they don't operate under the same conditions.

Bottom line is, the only way you're ever gonna get your stuff back at this point is if he feels like getting ahold of you, sorry my man.

Think of it this way: you just payed $180 to keep an asshole out of your life forever. That's a decent return on investment, IMO.

monetarily, maybe not. philosophically, you couldn't pay any amount of money to find that information in another way.

Well up here in the wasted north of America, an 1/8th of nug is $60, but that is not nearly as bad as near the Montana border where 1/8th can go from $80-$90. I know it is cheaper on the coasts but when your state's entire population is less than 650,000 people and the biggest city is 90,000 people.
Yeah, I learned a very good lesson. Don't front money. I figured I'd get ribbed over this if I said anything but shit, that's life. Fuck it. $180 isn't anything to get worked up over. I'm more upset someone I considered a friend would screw me over. |
