Depression after quiting weed. normal?
I recently quit smoking herb due to unemployment and fear of failing a drug test. (i know there are ways around testing, but after 8 months with no job, i don't feel comfy risking it.) I do have depression issues normally, but it has gotten so much worse since i quit. im assuming its all psychological, (that and weed is one of the few things that helps me sleep so i am sleeping very sporadically these days). Has anyone else had similar issues when having to quit for a while?

If you go from smoking every day to not at all, it's an adjustment mentally and possibly physically. That it would spark off your depression doesn't surprise me. I've had similar issues lately, having given up drinking (and, as a result, smoking alot less), and I too suffer from depression. It's not a permanent thing, tho.

Im hoping it is temporary. unfortunately cannabis is one of the few things i have found that keeps me level. without it i tend to think and worry myself into a frenzy.

George Carlin once said that he never felt that bad about running out of drugs. Sure it sucks for the moment, but he always knew there would be good times to be had in the future.

you're smoking weed, weed makes you feel good. if you smoke it everyday, no shit you're going to feel bad when you stop..
that's common sense, just don't smoke as much so it won't feel as bad when you do stop. that or just don't be a wus, cause IMO, it's really not that bad. The first three days are the worst though. |

I wish my fat butt would lose my appetite. lol. Yeah i have had the "bummer im out of weed" feeling before, but this time it has been 50 times worse. I think it is mostly because i have some heavy crap going on in life and the herb was a good way to curb the anxiety and depression.

Or escape?
Whenever I can't smoke, the days and weeks tend to go by REALLY slow. I have wicked dreams and I'm angrier. I also don't eat as much. After smoking for quite awhile, being sober can be a real trip. |

there have been times when i quit smoking marijuana, the worst effects i had were i tended to dream more and the dreams were very vivid, now i am sure that withdrawl is different for everybody but this was and is my experience. I have always thought, that as long as i worked hard, and didnt jab needles in my arms, life would be a cake walk

But from my point of view, there's no such thing as "curbing" depression or anxiety.. You either deal with it or you don't. Smoking weed does not help either of those in most cases. People say marijuana cures depression, but it really doesn't. Maybe it does when you're high or if you've smoked recently, but when you stop, I guaranfuckingtee you that depression will come back and most likely worse than the last time. Just don't smoke so much weed. Like if you can smoke once a day, that's good IMO. Because then it makes it that much easier to stop. It's because when you don't smoke, the things you used to do make you want to smoke. So that way you only have to avoid it once a day and if you can do that, you're golden. I used to get bummed out the 1st day I didn't have weed, maybe a little edgy too. But after that I feel good. And I try to always have weed but also need to live within my means.
Now I've been getting bummed (just for a brief moment - totally different) after getting a 1/4 of weed knowing it will be gone in 4 days and I won't be able to buy another for either a few days or until the following week.

I get the vivid dreams too.
I was just reading that weed does in fact drain your brains ability to produce dopamine, so after you take a break your brain has a lot of catching up to do to get it's chemistry back in balance. I'm probably just being supersititious but sometimes I think I can actually *feel* my brain juices flowing back into balance as I go through the process of sobering up. (Although I'm pretty sure that's not possible as the brain is in fact numb). Point is that the brain needs time to find pleasure in other activites. For me it's reading, I can't read books when I'm high, I don't have the attention span. But once I'm sober and I start reading a book it's like it jump starts my brain back into a normal, neutral mode. |
