nervous
id like to request some good vibes from the yahookan support network. my parents are both going into surgery tomorrow morning. my mom is donating her kidney to my dad who has been in stage 5 kidney failure for almost a year. im fairly worried about it as i love them both and it would be hard to lose them. the surgeon is experienced, its not a new procedure, and theyve both undergone alot of tests to see if they are fit for the surgery, so hopefully everything will go as planned.
thanks

Mafoo, i can imagine being nervous thats a pretty big deal both your parents going into surgery. Im sure everything will be fine though, like you sayed its not a new procedure and im sure the surgeon could probably do it with his eyes closed. Hopefully he wont but you never know, that new tech fresh outta school might dare him...But in all seriousness I hope everything goes well and everything goes smooth for your father and mother during and after surgery, transplants are always risky but how could your body reject something that came from the person that your heart loves? Good vibes to you and your family. Maybe you should bake your parents a batch of special brownies to go along with the vicodin? They would appreciate that

Mafoo, my uncle gave my aunt a kidney, and my other aunt only has one kidney(if that), sure its scary and shitty, but the risks of a kidney transplant aren't like heart surgery or something. Its pretty routine these days. Im sure everything will be fine, just help them in the recovery, as that sucks quite a bit. |

Good Vibes Man!!!!!
About 5 years ago my Mom received a kidney donation from my cousin. The surgery went well and both of them are happy healthy and well. Her kidney has been going strong. I think it's beautiful for the way they are sharing, but sorry its under such circumstances that an intimate gift has to be an organ. I really hope and pray for the best Mafoo. Take some deep breaths and keep the love light on. It's a fairly long recovery process. ![]() SageTree

well today has been some kind of day. i barely remember waking up at 4 to say goodbye to my parents before they left for the hospital. i guess i went back to bed until about 9, extremely shitty sleep. showed up at the hospital around 10, i was told the surgery would only last 4-6 hours. waited for quite a while, feeling a little nervous as it seemed to be dragging on. finally got to see my mom, it was kinda rough. she looked all pale and pretty puffy in the face, im guessing due to some edema due to having an iv and only 1 kidney to deal with all the liquid. she was given dilauded and promptly passed out, yes i was jelaous.
so i went back to waiting for my dad. his surgery, i was told, would be shorter than my moms, but that was completely false. he didnt come out of surgery until about 7:30 which was probably the most nerve racking thing about my day. i finally got to see him and he seemed more with it than my mom, but i could tell he was pretty looped out. i said hello and everything and he said he was feeling sleepy and that i should go home and take care of the dog ![]() so all in all, the surgeries went well. it was kinda draining keeping all my relatives up on what was happening because the hospital staff could only tell me the general phase of surgery that was happening, and they wanted specifics n such. i really appreciate the kind words and all, i read all the responses before i went to bed last night and alot of them really put me at ease. it was a strange day for me
