I hadn't thought about this thread in awhile, so it's kind of funny that it should come up now. I just did my walk through with the guy this last weekend. (BTW, the Luxor hotel kinda sucks ass, and you definitely don't want to ride the elevator drunk, as it goes slantwise). He showed up with his 1-1/2 year old, drunk and looking like he'd been in a fight. Kinda killed any anger I could have had toward the guy.
I'm figuring on selling the house, now, regardless of the hosing I take on the price. My wife and I want to buy a motorhome, sell all our shit, and live on the road. We're both tired of the bullshit. I figure if I can get $400K on the place, I should be golden. It's a 1/2 acre, with pool and like 3500 sq ft, so maybe, even in Vegas, I might be able to pull off something like that. I'll tell you this, tho. I'm am put off the idea of buying a house for the rest of my life because of this. Houses are like money vampires, between repairs, taxes, mortgage payments (mostly interest in the first 15 years), HOA dues and assessments, and all the other shit that can go wrong (I saw a show on cable recently about some guy in AZ who's house became infested with scorpions). Fuck all that bullshit. ![]() The Rev |

I've actually decided to devote my funds to a similar thing, getting a 4wd pickup and a camper to put on top of it while I wait for my native status to go through and I can do the school thing for free.
School to learn and cheap mobile living so I never have to chain myself down. I don't give a shit about 'success' or whatever these dingbats are calling it. I want to live without bondage.

Lol scorpions.
Sounds like you're doing the right thing Rev. The house seemed to be sucking your life forces away.

Money may not equal satisfaction, but it helps.
There's arugments for both sides. If you have job security, get a house and build some equity. Do not, as Rev has clearly demonstrated, buy a house for other people to live in. Otherwise, rent is the way to go, for stationary homes. Rent apartments or buy condos for minimal maintenance. My dad has been a successful flipper since the 70s, and even he has been wary of getting anything new. Selling his old properties/finding tenants has been very difficult for him, but he's picked up two condos for dirt dirt cheap. I took over one and a friend grabbed the other off my dad. Good luck on your RV dream, though I could guess that wear n tear, gas and insurance on a constant use rv would still be pretty pricey.

I'm looking to buy a property, with a cheap house.
Looking for land past the outskirts of the cities. As roads improve more isolated locations become closer. Hard to lose money if your buy price is towards market entry in that area as those with low incomes wanting to enter the market will always look to the outskirts and beyond. |

Why not tear down the one five bedroom, build four studios around a pool, charge a grand a month each and double your take?

That's not a bad idea, but I a) don't want 4 tenants when 1 was a huge pain in the ass, b) don't want the headache of being a landlord anymore, and c) don't really have the investment capital even if the first two reasons weren't an issue.
The truth is, I'm sick of owning things. I want to reel in the having part of my life, and put more energy into the doing part. ![]() The Rev |

Saw a graffiti tag last night on the way home.
It's said 'Need less, Be More'. Just sounded like that last sentence there Rev. It's bouncing around in there and then there was this.... which if the paraphrasing is apt... it seems like the second time I've encountered this thought tonight.... Cheers Rev SageTree
