Brain Surgery

One of my son-in-laws is having brain surgery tomorrow (Wed.). It happened suddenly. He had stroke like symptoms and the docs found he had "a bleeder".

Through testing they found that's it's happened before.

The odd part is his numbness and the bleeder both seem to be on the left side. You know, right brain, left side, etc. So they don't know if the left side numbness is maybe caused by a blood clot? They just don't know. His case is odd.

So, he is in serious, but stable condition.

They're are cutting his head open tomorrow and he may die. He's only 28.

Please send good thoughts.

Thank you,
mothernature

PS My Mom had brain surgery years ago. The doc messed up and she had a massive stroke, which put her in a nursing home, where she wasn't able to eat, sit, or do anything for 13 months, until she died. This experience has made me quite nervous about my son-in-laws condition.

Thanks some heavy stuff Mothernature.
I pray that he isn't scared, that everyone goes correctly and for a quick and full recovery.
And some peace to you all outside the surgery while you wait for the day and through the procedure.

Lots of Love to you and him and your family.

thinking about you and yours, i hope everything goes smoothly

if its any comfort, surgery has come quite a ways in just the last few years, in terms of safety and results.

Ok...you all are not gonna believe this...

Yesterday morning he was in intensive care, in serious, but stable condition. By dinner time he was discharged with a cab voucher.

The bleeder stop on its own. Yes, his brain still has blood on it, giving him the stoke like symptoms. But, since his body healed itself, they no longer consider it life threatening. They did say that he does need surgery for it, but not until he gets insurance.

When I say, healed itself, I mean it is no longer bleeding fresh blood. The condition is still there. They say that stress played a large part of this, along with a genetic pre-disposition to vascular problems. The doc also said that 1 blow to the head could mean his death.

So basically they said, gtfo until you have insurance, or until you actually have a real stroke. Oh....and here's 3 months worth of anti-seizure meds.

And saving the best part for last...when he asked if he could use the phone to call his mother for a ride....they said no.

I'm so...so...so...fucki ng mad right now, I just want to beat someone up.

Fuck this country.

i'll pray for hum to get insurance, since compassionate care is obviously off the table.

oh and an anecdote. not everyone turns out like your mom (may god hold her soul in his care), there is hope. my friend had a large brain tumor, causing hallucinations, fainting, you name it he had it. eventually he got it operated on, went on to get a perfect score on his ACT, and is now a very academically and socially successful college student. theres a lot of hope in the power of recovery in young people.

Unbelievable.. try not to go postal..

My heartfelt sympathies .

I don't know how insurance and healthcare works where you are but that sounds like false economy, surely it's more expensive to treat someone after they have a stroke than before?

Thanks you guys.

I'm not flipping out anymore, I'm just plain old ordinary mad now.

I so feel like "dropping out". Sell my house, say fuck it, and go on the dole. But I know I'm just upset.

The government will pay as long as he's unemployed I think. He has to get the appropriate paper work filled out and shit. He has to be unemployed too! Of course, now someone else (taxpayers) will have to pay for supporting his 3 kids. If he has a stroke and becomes disabled or dies, the government gives all 3 kids a check for a long time.

Seems to me too FG, that it would be cheaper in the long run to help him now. But that is the way this country is now.

Man.... this is like bummer of the day....

I'm glad it is 'fixing' itself.
The 'anti-seizure' meds will help with fluid on the brain, I'm sure.

It's good the bleeding has stopped, but it's bullshit they said 'you need this' .... but you can't have it until you have a 'real' stroke... WTF is that...??!!!!!

But Damn..... I don't really feel like we're missing the forest for the trees here.... that man SHOULD HAVE BEEN HELPED....
