Are you trying to lose weight/ Build Muscle?

Personally Ive really packed away the lbs this winter. I really needed to get back into shape so I've been really just eating fruits, veg and fish (1400 cal/.day)

I've never done the diet thing before becuase I was naturally fit.
But, college takes it's toll.

Anyways, I found this great site for managing your calories throughout the day as well as tracking your exercise. It's called LIVESTRONG.COM - Lose Weight & Get Fit with Diet, Nutrition & Fitness Tools go to "start tracking" and then fill out what you have ate under "My Plate". So far it is the easiest program I have found. It is even better than the "Nutra Calc Plus" program I had to buy for a nutrition class at my University ($60).

My Daily Plate is free..

Plus there is an App for your phone which I have purchased and enjoy using because I can track food right from my blackberry (they support other carriers)

But, I love ya yahooki so I just thought I would share this information in hopes that it might be of help to someone else.

Seriously, it's SO EASY

Seem like a cool site...
My only problem is when i punch in a few numbers height, weight and average daily activity, it spits out how many calories I need to consume to reach my goal. Every "body" is so different and granted this might be a good base to start from, people see Oh i can eat 1934 calories a day! and treat it like the bible. Sorry just being a negitive Nancy. All i know my best friend can eat 4000 calories a day, and be bean pole skinny, be on the other I look at a cookie and put 5lbs on

yeah i know what you mean but the guidelines are a good start. Since I don't have any muscle (haha) I know i dont have to factor that into my calories. When I put in ht, wght etc it told me I could consume 1640 cal/day but I want results sooner as well as I am a very head strong person so I know I can stick to the 1400 diet. You can make the daily calorie goal less if you want. You can set it at whatever you want.

I think it's great because they have the actual brand and non brand name foods in their database, i think it's because the site is so large.
But the other program I used was a pain in the ass because you would just have to find the closest match in calories.

and hey, you can be a negetive nancy with me any day... Hater fo lyfeee

I think that making those calories count is part of the goal.

Weight Watchers has a really cool program where certain food are a certain amount of points, based on sugar/fibre/fat/salt.

You get a number of 'points' to meet your goal and then journal your days like that.

I feel that the mindfulness of the exercise is more than half the benefit, because in the end you will be developing good habits along the way, by the system encouraging healthy behaviours if you wish to snack, treat yourself etc...

This system above certainly has the mindfulness connection to it. That is good in my eyes.

Some people REALLY like the meetings and accountability WW offers, other people don't feel that way nor do they wish to pay the small fee for being part of a meeting.

To your health and 100 years,
SageTree

You say you have packed away the pounds, do you feel you are overweight? How many pounds overweight do you feel? If your body fat is around 15-17%, that is ideal for adding on some muscle. Find a gym that has a lifting mat for deadlifts & cleans, and a squat rack for squatting, throw in some bench press and pullups and you'll start feeling great about yourself. Initially, you probably won't lose much weight at all, if any, but you'll notice yourself looking better in the mirror, which is all that counts.

As far as nutrition goes, I've been hearing some great things about the paleolithic diet - it makes a lot of sense and there is a wealth of information available in support of it. If you're an average sized guy, you should be eating a lot more than 1400 calories per day. You can eat quite a bit of food and still lose weight, but you have to be selective. Take Atkin's for example - eating large quantities of protein (and only protein) can induce rapid weight loss.

Good luck to you!
