right to work sucks.
i like having a job, but my boss is new at the position, and young, and predictably a tyrant. she's got fear mistaken for respect and thinks threatening people with their jobs is the proper motivator. she does everything she can to foment an atmosphere of distrust and paranoia and tattle-tailing. :shrugs: ed: i try to do a kick ass job and make the old ladies from assisted living smile. loise ck did a bit on shitty jobs for twenty somethings, and for my situation at least, it totally applies-i try to do a shitty job well, even though all of the crap i talked about earlier. taking pride in what you do is important, whether that's cleaning up dog feces or checking out old ladies. it's my job, to check out old ladies just sounds lecherous ed: it's going to be this way until people stop feeding the machines that run these type jobs. until they can no longer staff them or no longer find customers. it is your prerogative to better yourself constantly. there will always be someone ahead of you, but if you're not working or at least scheming to better your situation-look for better jobs, develop skills to market yourself for better jobs, then shitty jobs might well be on the menu. ededed: better to vent on yahooka than to uppercut your boss. I love the implications that the private non-unionized sector is somehow so much purer without any corruption, when over and over again this has been proven to be 180 degrees off the mark. Wtf is wrong with people know-a-days, so against their own best interests.

And "The Right to Work" is just a catchy republican slogan that sounds nice where implemented in hick southern slave states like Virginia, but in reality it is a law that gives all the power to the employer with little to no recourse for the employed. It's really a hire at will contract made into law! It should be called "The Right to Fire You For Any Reason I feel Like It".

I was in AFSCME and ASHE 40 years ago when unions started selling out their members.
Believe me it happens more often than you know. Was also a member of SMPTE but never had a problem with the motion picture lab I worked for.
