Never forget the sweet release of death

I want to put some things into perspective for you: you're going to die.

No matter what your issues are, no matter what kind of trouble you're in, no matter how bad you think things are, eventually you're going to find yourself on your death bed. No matter what happens you will inevitably end up staring death right in the face. You have that to look forward to, guaranteed.

This is not an advocasy for suicide, by the way.

It's just that when I feel like life is hopeless I remind myself that death is the great equalizer and just like that I find that there is nothing to worry about. It doesn't matter how good I do or how bad I do because all roads lead to the same place. Death!

Feel better?

word. it helps to make the little things more special in my mind. Knowing that I could die any day, and I'm in the end pretty helpless. Takes some of the pressure off.

Am I missing your reason for posting ?

Yes indeed, all living things die. It is a well known fact ...of life.

Usually tho, people only obsess about death when they lack the illusion of having a "reason" for living.

For me the primary function of all living organisms is survival. That would be survival until some natural cause of death replaces that primary function.

Modern life can make even just surviving a challenge.

The funny thing about "merc" is that he is either always reminiscing about the past or trying to make piece with inevitability, the future...They poor feller is never living in the now...He's gonna spend his whole life wondering about what was and what is going to be that he will never live his life...

i find the concept of death truly exciting. An answer to a lifelong question asked by billions and billions of people time and time again. FINALLY.

Then again, i also recognize the driving force within to put that off as long as possible...hopefully i have enough time to understand things a little better.

Maybe that is the point of life after all?... you have survival instincts so you can survive long enough to understand things a little more, or at least get the opportunity to do so...

anyway, yes everyone dies. The universal traits. We are born and we die.

I say we go back to the collective consciousness knowing that we had brothers and sisters in this life!

I have that problem, too. Too much worry, too little living.

As if it's so easy to live in the moment. Not that I don't understand the concept; not that I have never experienced the here and now, but I'm only human. If you have any techniques please share them.

Try to see how many times a day you can tell when you're breathing or when your feet are touching the ground. This might not be THE goal.... but I bet you'll have some fruits from literally paying credence to being grounded.

(Check my sig.)

It is easy to live in the moment insofar as the moment is really all there is, but our heads do have a way of trumping those things on a constant habitual basis.

The past and future exist as only thoughts in our head, yet one was the present and one will be the present. Nothing happens outside of the present moment.

Worrying is essentially praying for something you don't want. It is by far the most reflective symptom of compulsive thinking. Why would anyone in their right mind pray for something that they don't want? Perhaps we are all slightly insane, and cannot stop our compulsion to think?

With regards to projecting yourself into a future moment, and thus draining awareness of the present:
Quote:
Chuang Tzu Story - The need to win

When an archer is shooting for fun
He has all his skill.

If he shoots for a brass buckle
He is already nervous.

If he shoots for a prize of gold
He goes blind

Or sees two targets –
He is out of his mind.

His skill has not changed,
But the prize divides him.

He cares
He thinks more of winning
Than of shooting –
And the need to win
Drains him of power.
Not that we shouldn't make goals, but once they are made everything that needs to be done must be done in the now. Yet again however, our minds continue to conjure up scenarios -- both good and bad -- of future moments that do not exist as anything but thoughts in our head, and we suffer for it.

However, thought should be seen as it is; a tool of awarness, not awareness itself. How else is it not possible to be unaware of the now and yet sometimes be totally lost in it? For example, think of a time you've experienced something beautiful in your life where you were just completely taken aback. Were you thinking at this moment?

Sometimes we are caught with glimpses into the now and what it feels like to be free of thought without any need for spirituality or religion, just humanity.

Sometimes I stop and think of all the sensations surrounding me, the sunlight, the wind across my skin, the smell of the trees, rain or flowers...watching the birds play in the birdbath, the sunset, the sunrise... you get the picture, live through experiences and sensations.......

a more eloquent expounding of what I was getting at

I thought I'd spare my personal feelings on 'just feeling the sensations' and not attaching a 'you' to it and prattling on about that 'merging into one' feeling

want to live in the moment?

take a bunch of ecstasy and lose yourself dancing for a couple hours.

You gotta just let go every once in a while and go nuts having a good time.
