Dhom is the biggest mama's boy of us all, so it really doesn't matter Roach.

He's clearly not in charge of his own finances.

bearsy,

you gotta at least try it. i have moved across the ocean twice (once with the idea that it would be only for a year) and i love it. its pretty fucking amazing the perspective you gain when you see what its like somewhere else, and i am not talking about a tourist visit. learn a language, get into a new culture, whatever. everything changes, especially when you visit/move back home and see with new eyes where you were living. you get to know quickly why things are the way they are and what might cause them to be different-- some stuff is the same everywhere and you'd be surpised (probably) which things those are.

what i am saying is that you seem to have a need to grow but no idea what is causing the pressure. buffalo is probably pretty high up on the list of decent places to live when you consider the entire planet, but sometimes the fit isn't right even if its at the top. figure out what you need and what you like and you'll be much happier.

good luck

well from someone who has lived all over NY, Buffalo isn't all that bad. I actually kind of like it, and if life took me their again, I would be happy.

No Buffalo's a great city, and I have so much love for it, but I just need to get out, yanno?

22 years is a long time to be anywhere, especially since I've been feeling the urge to leave for like 7 of them.

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

I'm finally getting hours at work again since school is starting back up. This past month and a half I've only been making about $50 a week but now begins the saving up to leave. The internet tells me that $1,000 is the minimum you want when moving like this so I'm gonna shoot for at least $1,500. I should be able to put $75-100 away a week if I control my spending. So by June I should be ready to go.

If you want to, pick a reasonable day in June and mark it. Keep that date somewhere where you'll see it on a regular basis. The longer that day is stuck in your mind, the more significance it will hold, the harder it will be to push the date back. As the day approaches, get into planning the specifics you'll need to do to make that day the day.

Godspeed bearsy.

I got my form from unemployment.

Paid 1700 in taxes on 17,000 for the year.

should get it all back...or most of it.

that's my move ( somewhere ) money (plus some savings) after renting a tux and some cash for my sons wedding.

I'm planning on sticking most of my shit in storage till I get relocated.

Good for you Bears man, I have jokingly told my gf we should move to California, she didnt completely say no. She is very close to her parents, they are pretty old, and he feels really responsible for them. I don't think she would be able to move away from them. I would love to live somewhere else for a little bit.

mark all boxes.

change of address package from post office.

cut all utilities (request final bill) terminate service.

most states have a time limit for address change on drivers license.

most states only allow you to have 1 drivers license.

after you move (to a different city) there will be an adjustment period where you won't have any friends (unless you take them with you or know them in advance). this can be tough for some people, but in general there are awesome/cool people everywhere and you need to find them. don't waste your time hanging out and putting effort into a friendship if you are aren't getting the same effort back from the other person. sometimes its better to be a casual acquaintance than it is to have a one sided relationship with you putting in all the effort.

Roach did well in saying....

But I'll add.... if you don't want to carry it... don't want to unpack it... haven't worn or used it in 6 months to a year.... give it away/take to goodwill.

Will scour the thread....aka.... actually read up a few posts.

Where are you headed man?

Look at rents....

Most places you'll need first and last months rent and/or a security deposit.
Depending on where you go, $1500 ought to be enough.

Look at long term hostel rates where you are going, if they have them, so you can look around for a place a little instead of just jumping on the first one you find, which might not be the best priced one.

Also, Leases.... be ready for one. Most are 6 months to a Year.

Another thread with Dhomnley contributing nothing but negativity. I'm noticing a sad trend here.

Good luck Bearsy.

My advice: after a life in New York go somewhere WARM.
