loss of a friend

black and tan mini dachshund

a very good friend/companion for the past 17 years (off and on) will be executed on Saturday Jan 21st at about 8:30 am.

technically she's my son's dog (who it turned out is not a "pet" type person), has been with living with his mother the whole time of her existance.

appearently a chemical referred to as euthasol will be used , then increased to overdose. Not my choice .

Because the very first thing she teethed on was a new pair of patent leather dress shoes of mine (I was living there at the time. )

This is the one thing I hate about sharing my heart and home with an animal, knowing they will be gone probably a lot sooner than I will.

Sorry Roach

I have always had a cat or dog... mostly cats the last several years.. I have never had to have one put to sleep, thank god. My mom has had to have one of her cocker spaniels put to sleep and she said, don't do like some people and leave and say they can't take it. The animal senses you are there with them and it comforts them, like it would a person, to the end.
And my grandmother told me, "Just think about it as, you gave them the best life they could of had."

17 is really old for a small dog. You're right about pets being better companions than some people.

She will be missed, but remembered dearly .

Every pet-lover will have to go through this at some point, but I'm so sorry you're having to face it right now. The only thing I can say is try to be at peace with it, because dogs can sense when you're stressed out and you want your little lady's last days on this earth to be pleasant. mixed feelings now.

The technician told us Pep would be sedated/tranquilized thru a catheter and then given "the shot".

It wasn't the product we were told it would be, but when I asked we were told it was the same formula/mixture of drugs.

The catheter was inserted , and we sat with Pep for about five minutes.

The doctor then came in asked if we were ready, and we said yes.
The shot was inserted into the catheter, and Pep jerked once gave a little wimper and went limp, in maybe less than two heart beats.
The Vet checked for a heartbeat in under a minute, pronouncing her dead.

I'm sure the pup felt the heart failure that the drug induced.

Now I'm thinking I should give the vet a massive shot of the same medication.

Really did not go as planned, or as the vet/technician had stated.

So now I'm sad, and really pissed.

In the defense of all pets, pet owners and Pepper, I've published a bad review of the VCA Duncan Manor Animal Hospital, and procedure on a site for such complaints, and registered a complaint with PETA, who have already replied that an inquiry will be forthcoming.

Can't thank you all enough for your support.
