stoneric what do you do?

my interview as a distribution center supervisor went well. when she was describing the job duties she kept saying 'pretty much what you were doing previously' so thats a good sign I hope. there is a couple more phone interviews (corporate in texas, HR in pennsylvania) but I'm feeling pretty good about it.

oh yeah - don't forget to turn your Facebook private if you are looking for a job.

looking for a job in a recession is a pretty soul destroying task. you know that you will be lucky to find a decent job with a normal wage.
relocation to a better job market is a good option. getting stuck in a bad place in a bad time is just bad.

I'm actualy pretty lucky because i relocated to a new area to take care of my invalid mother in law. Turns out this area is experiencing some pretty substantial growth due to the air force base and massive windmill growth, and now the space programs starting here too

yea, I thought the same thing. I'll be 60 in May and run out of EUC in the end of April.

My current Apartment building is up for Sheriff's sale Feb 6th.

If there are no offers and the property reverts to the bank , all 6 apt. tennants can be evicted by the sheriff in as little as 4 days , with loss of all security deposits. Shit will just get piled on the street ( by law, banks cannot be landlords...in PA).
If a new buyer steps in (most likely) they must give a minimum of 90 days (federal law signed into law by Obama in 2009), and most like will require a new lease, new security deposit, and increase in rental fees.

shit happens.

I would relocate if I knew someone. My guess is the western states (minus CA), and the midwest are the best bets. AZ, UT... just stay out of the south.

Anything is better than the south in general except some parts of the east coast and detroit. The midwest is just a nice place to live so I'm kind of biased.

I'm a machinist. And not a machine operator.

Plus I'm a small time caregiver, just sell my excess.

I hear you man. But I would have to do something stupid to blow it now. My mortgage is paid off and I'm debt free. I have a very healthy 401K that is all in a stable account. Plus I lead a simple life and only have myself to support. I'll also be able to expand my caregiver business if need be. Of course when the dollar is worthless, I'll be in the same boat as everyone else.

Wait till all those military cuts start. . . Places like this quickly become ghost towns.

It isn't about what you know or how hard you worked to know it sometimes.

Oh by the way, in my last job I started as a $9 per hour driver and left the company making a little over $48,000 a year as management before they decided to consolidate operations 650 miles north of me.

Took me three years to do it, so don't think I don't understand the ethic, however I also understand the crap shoot that is life in working America today.

Designated as the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC), Edwards is home to the 412th Test Wing, the United States Air Force Test Pilot School, and NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center. It is operated and maintained by the 95th Air Base Wing as a part of the Air Force Materiel Command. Almost every United States military aircraft since the 1950s has been at least partially tested at Edwards, and it has been the site of many aviation breakthroughs.
Quote:
Edwards is among the few U.S. military bases to have gained jobs since the Cold War. Under the DoD's Base Realignment and Closure process, several smaller bases have been decommissioned, and their facilities and responsibilities have been sent to Edwards, China Lake, and other large bases. For example, Marine Aircraft Group 46, Detachment Bravo, two heavy lift helicopter squadrons, were assigned to Edwards after the May 1999 closing of MCAS El Toro.
Edwards is also home to several other units from DOD, Air Force, Army, Navy, FAA, USPS and many companies that support the primary mission or the personnel stationed there.[10]
Since 2005, Space Shuttle landings have been common once again at Edwards.
i don't think this base will be effected too badly.
