Suicide

I don't have a lot of experience with this.

The first time I encountered it, I believe it was unintentional. Think Heath Ledger.

But this time…

Oof. My friend Toby shot himself.

10 years ago, we were close. I mean, it's not like we weren't close last week in a "pick up where you left off" kind of way, but I got married, had a kid, moved away and the contact that we had slowly diminished. The last time I saw him was at a funeral for a mutual friend last year. He wasn't taking very good care of himself. It bothered me.

We've drank many beers together. Watched the sun come up so many time. I've listened to his gripes and offered some direction and support. He's handed me his Leatherman countless times and asked me to play some slide guitar. He was a good dude. He was a friend.

Look after your friends, friends. Especially the ones you haven't talked to in a while.

Suicide is not the Cowards way out. Sick of hearing that if anything it takes some serious, massive balls to take ones own life. Sorry to here about your friend

I've been around a few suicides. It's surreal really.
A friend I grew up with... He lived with us for abit, was my sisters ex. Shot himself in the head with a shotgun a few years ago.. The funeral was something out of a movie. He knew so many people were there I'd say at least 200.

It was an open casket. He was 27. When I walked in everyone I knew and grew up was there hert broken.. I could see him in the casket with the ball cap he always wore when he was a teenager. His mother was on her knees screaming in anguish like something out of a movie.. His brother and sister hovered over his body holding his hand.. Kissing his face. You could see where to bullet came out of his forehead but it was fixed up good with makeup and bandages..

It was just so crazy and surreal. We had a huge celebration of life which was a huge party because that's what we did.. We all grew up together and we were all like family..it was sad but comforting.. But more sad to see what the family was going through.

Still sad... But reflecting in the memories is good.

My cousin did the same. She was 21, GORGEOUS, smart, funny. She was an amazing person. She shot herself over a guy. Because my family had pretty much disowned her and when she lost him she felt she had lost everything. I wish I hadn't been so wrapped up in myself and with drugs so I could have been there for her. We were both in the same boat. My family had pretty much disowned me too. I can't forgive them for the way they treated her.

I hope your friend found some peace in the end. I hope my cousin did too.

Shitty... when this happens all we can do is cherish the memories we've made.
