My lawyer told me if I get in to an accident when I'm drunk I should flee the scene. Assuming it's just me crashing in to something. Not someone.
This is true.. Even if you crash into someone while drunk, fkin flee.

Your lawyer can always say due to head injury you were in a confused state.

I'm assuming this is what Jon Jones recently tried to do, but he fkd himself by going back to the scene and grabbing money like a huge fkin idiot.

Here's an idea.. Don't be a fucking idiot to begin with and you won't have to worry about blowing or fleeing scenes or some crazy ass scenarios..

God.

Sorry I'm just as guilty, but fuck.

While the Law enforcement varies from state to state and province to province there are some similarities.
A lawyer will fight the cops procedure of evidence gathering. He will question the validity of the chemical analysis. He will ask leading questions about head injury, permission, duration, etc. until a doubt is established.
Normally at that point they either plea down to a lesser charge like Undue Care and Attention or the charge is dropped all together.
The privilege for this joy ride is between 5-10,000$ to make it go away. You "Cannot" Cross the US/Canada border for up to 10 years with a conviction without expensive "special" authorization paperwork.
Alcohol is the killer of dreams, success, and happiness
Lawyers love it.

^Damn didnt know that about the border...

That is fucking weird...
Are other countries like that too?

And what about other convictions? If someone gets busted for possession of marijuana in the states, are they unable to go into canada for 10 years?!

yes or maybe even forever if they have a criminal record. these types of questions (have you ever been convicted of a federal offense?) are common on almost every standard tourist visa registration form i have ever seen

Also Reggie your friends got their own problems. Don't be embarrassed about yours. Problems, people got em.

Yeah, we all have our crosses to bear. Try to think of it as the hand you were dealt, and not as some kind of reflection on your character. You didn't choose to have this problem, so you have no reason to feel shame about it, just really, really inconvenienced.

Shame is a healthy emotion to an extent. Shame isn't just about feeling like you aren't living up to an imaginary social standard, but can be a sense of the individual not living up to their own standards. In which case it is healthy to acknowledge what actions are causing that discord between the standards of the self and not meeting those standards. What is harmful is stewing in shame and allowing it to be an excuse to "lower" those standards due to the fear that others are somehow reliant on us meeting an arbitrary set of requirements to dispense love, compassion and understanding. It is okay to feel what you need to feel. For too long you have been numbing those feelings.

You have family and friends that love you, allow this to be a time for you to accept that love and strength. At some point they will need you to be there for them to do the same.

Get yourself well reg. Not for anyone else, but for yourself.

Why would you lose your job and apartment? If you already have both how would either find out about your offense without you offering the information?

They don't give background checks to people who already work/live there. If you need to take time for jail just tell them there was a death in the family or something.

With the whole blowing thing maybe I shouldn't I just heard different things. I keep thinking how if I just spent money on a cab none of this would have ever happened. But what's done is done. I'm not going to say this was a blessing in disguise but I'm happy I didn't hurt anyone. Honestly I'd doubt I'd be able to live with myself. I kind of fucked up my life in a big way over what? Getting drunk? Over nothing. I'm blessed to have so many supportive people in my life. If I had to face this alone I don't know if I'd have the strength.

I'm also lucky because I've been saving up a lot of money since I was a teen. I talked to some lawyers and they seemed confident they could at least get me back on the road after three months if nothing else but it would be 5-7 grand which seems expensive but might be worth it. At least I have that money if I need it. My buddy who had this happen to him a couple years ago got a lawyer for $600 because it was a friend of his dad's but said he didn't really help. I'm going to call more lawyers today. You guys think it's better to have one than not? I'm worried it won't help at all and be an unneeded expense.

Everything is so overwhelming now with dealing with the courts, lawyers, consequences, the fact that I have no one to blame but myself and a long hard look at myself, my drinking and what I want for the future. I'm lucky I have a few friends who've gone through this. They've said the same thing most of you have said. I made a dumb decision, it's going to suck a lot for awhile but I can get through it. They did at least. I'm just trying to take it day by day because looking at the big picture is just too overwhelming right now. Just got to make it to tomorrow and do what I need to do in order to do so no matter how much I might not want to. I need my family, friends and therapist more than ever right now. I gave them every reason to give up on me but they're still here.

Someone told me today "Depression is NOT a joke, fam. That shit can literally break people down until they wither away." I've been so good at laughing at myself for so long. That's important but I think it's about time I take a break from the laughter and take a long hard look at myself in the mirror and figure who I am and who I want to be.

I work in a different city in which I live. No buses or anything go out there. My coworker said I could carpool with him if I throw him some gas money but it's a bit out of his way. I don't know if it'll work out especially in the winter.

I mainly say about my apartment because when my insurance at least triples which I'm sure it will I don't know how I'll pay my rent, insurance, phone bill, groceries ect.

There is some good advice here Reggie. I hope things go as best as they can for you, legal wise. Personally, I hope you will seek help.
