got a dui is my life over?

Been reading about all the punishments and this might be it for me. No work, no rent, no car, criminal record. I'm so scared. Anyone else been charged before? how much does it suck?

I never got a dui in my drinking and driving career but I crashed my car many times.

I thank god I never killed any innocent children, women or men, ruined any families.

How selfish we are when we drink.

You will adapt.

Got nailed for impaired driving in '98. I could drive back and forth to work with restricted drivers license. I got fined $800, had to take classes which I had to pay $60 to take. Cost $125 to get my license back to allowing me to drive with no restrictions. My insurance doubled for 5 years. Yeah, it sucked. Now I'm sure those numbers have doubled but life goes on so you have to deal with it.

i got banned for other reasons and found that although the law imposed various restrictions on me, the place it hurt most was in my wallet...

as turm says, you will adapt bro, but it will also most likely suck.

but hey, i had to start taking the train to work and en route one morning i met a chick who ended up being a steady lady of mine for some time, good memories were made! so just keep your chin up and get on with life buddy

This.

Many times, just having a lawyer will improve the situation. My brother got nailed for racing when he was a kid, hired a lawyer, and got it lowered to speeding. Judges are usually lawyers, themselves, and tend to respect their own kind more than us peons.

Good luck, man.

turm, what's crazy is I remember watching cops as a kid and thinking "who the hell would do something so stupid" and years later here I am. I definitely had this coming but it's still this big thing. I'm probably going to lose my job and my apartment. Criminal record now, no chance of traveling, can never be a bouncer ever again, going extremely broke.

I'm whining but I'm lucky I didn't get into an accident or kill someone I would not be able to live with myself. When I got looked up last night I kept trying to hang myself. I've never felt so shitty about anything in my life. Luckily this happened to my friend a couple years ago and he's trying to walk me through the whole thing.

Alcohol is a scary thing.

We do things we wouldn't normally do when we are on it. I know I would go out and drink and drive again if I started drinking again because that's what I did..
It's not who we are but its what we do when we are sick on the drink. I say "sick" because alcohol is poison IMO.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it and had good times as well as the bad but man..

Your life sucks now buy it will get better.. Shit happens and everyday is a new day. You just have to work with what you got. Take it as a lesson learned and try to fake the best out of the circumstances..
This could be the start of new beginnings..
Can't have great without bad first eh, or great would be quite boring.

People get duis everyday..

Don't end your life over it.

People make mistakes we are only human.

The scam is that the alcohol makes you think your fine. It's one of the side effects. People say when it's said and done a dui will cost like 10g.

Def get a lawyer definitely definitely. See if you can get a provisional license too.

Also how'd it go down ?

Get a lawyer, pay out the ass, and long term you'll be fine. Shouldn't hurt your employment prospects too much, like a theft or fraud charge would (they don't care about applicants generally following the law, but how likely they are to rip off their employer).

thank you for the replies, it really means a lot. I work every other weekend. I've been doing really well with my drinking lately. Friday night I had a falling out with a good friend that caused me to go on a serious bender. Sunday I went to a strip club where I was feeling sorry for myself and kept having beer after beer when I only planned on having a couple. Tried driving home, made it half way when someone called the police saying I was swerving. Blew over, brought me down to the station where I tried to hang myself. Cops came in freaked out, I fought them, got tazzed. Told me I was going to the psych ward, I got them again, got tazzed. Then four out of the five cops (the one was a really good guy and seemed to really care) continued to call me a faggot, pussy, bitch so I fought them. Obviously lost. Slept over in the psych ward for the night. Dad drove me home. It was memorable to say the least.

Fuck man, time to stop drinking. Obviously a huge part of the problem but you have some deep shit going on if you tried to end your life over a DUI. Seek help and I wish you the best.

Im pretty sure getting a dui wont stop you from traveling.

I mean, driving your own car for a bit maybe, but beyond that id think youd be fine.

Try not to let the negatives overwhelm you man. Dont let it be the end of the world. It isn't.

I think it's a state by state but in nc if you don't blow it's admission of guilt. Or some scam.

My lawyer told me if I get in to an accident when I'm drunk I should flee the scene. Assuming it's just me crashing in to something. Not someone.

the one good thing about all this is I have such supportive friends and family if I had to face this alone I doubt I could do it. I really need to evaluate my life. I keep telling myself I'm going to cut back on drinking but now I'm starting to realize maybe it's time to cut this out of my life completely it's just terrifying because it's been such a huge part of my life since I was 17. it's very hard concept for me to swallow and humiliating that I'm in my mid twenties and I'm an alcoholic while my friends can just go out friday and not have any problems.

Everyone's different man, it's a tough pill to swallow but some people will be able to handle things you can't. It's nothing to feel humiliated about though, going clean and sober demonstrates strength and resolve, people will respect you for it. Good luck
