Being Around People Troubles me Sometimes.

I've spent many years isolated.. Besides this place and close family to talk to I really stay low key in regards to being a "social" person..

I'm just starting to get out and make friends or try to anyways..
I had some friends but lifestyle changes etc.

Think is, is, I can be around people for so long and then I get highly irritable..
Not by everyone, but by majority..

I find a lot of the people I meet tend to be needy.. Or want something from me.. I am compassionate and empathetic and also not a walking doormat....
I think I over analyze people..

I mean if we are hanging out cool..

I don't know..

I hang around a lot of addicts and they are very needy people.. Some of them..

I have a hard time handling it..
I try to help but..

Sometimes and lately I'm like fuck this!

And not just people in recovery..

I mean I barely have time for myself.. I remember to shower smoke and drink coffee and draw and go to work.. Eat sometimes and that's about it..

Fuck me!

People.

Leave me alone damnit!

See now I've been thinking..
Am I "deeeeflecting". Because I do t want to be an alcoholic.. Therefor I find some of them annoying..

But not really because I enjoy the company of some.. Just some people are bugging me lately..

It's normal to get annoyed.

Emotions are normal.

No emotions.."not normal".

Ahh
I think I know what the problem is..

It's me not them..

My problem isssss..

I don't have the balls to sayyy.. "No"
To set boundaries with people yet.

I have had a couple incidents of people overstepping boundaries and instead of being forthcoming with my feelings.. What do I do?

I bottle it up and then bitch and complain about it.. Behind their backs and to other people which is totally uncool making myself feel bad and look like an asshole all at the same time when all I have to do is be straight up to begin with and say "hey that's not cool" or " sorry I'm not available" instead of blaming others..

It's me..
I need to chillax.

Lol it's like schizo in here

Setting boundaries is where it's at, turm. That way, you have the power & the control.

As I understand it, it's taking responsibility.

Some of us just find being around people taxing. I think it's a common misconception that to be emotionally healthy you have to be extroverted to some degree. Life is easier for extroverted people, but for some of us, it's just better "in here" than "out there", socially. You're an artist. I'm sure that what's going on in your inner world has got to be way more fun than socializing.

I say go out when and if you want to, and make friends as you like, but don't feel weird about making time for just yourself.

You almost started to sound like SoK at first, but then completely not at all. So at least you have that going for you. Addicts and alcoholics don't learn normal skills when they are in their disease, like setting boundaries for example. So if you have been an addict since you were 18 (not you, specifically) and you don't get sober until 30 years later... you are still for the most part an 18 year old in a 48 year old's body. I have no idea of your story or if this applies to you, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to post anyhow. GL making friends, it seems harder to do the older you get.. but props on making an effort.

Trading your old ways in for new ones is hard.

Taking people's inventory when you should be looking at no one but yourself is a habit that must be broken.
Catching oneself early on is progress.

My thoughts gets go hear..helps realize and see when you read your words and the words of others where change is needed.

Good to hear.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking someone's inventory...to a point. I wanna know if it's gonna be worth my time and energy or if it's just some parasite wanting to suck out my life force.

And I'm a loner type as well. I love spending time with my people, but I need that alone time.

I think the Internet is an introvert's revolution, because you can be alone, yet socialize. It's human interaction totally on your own terms. Like, if I could live in the woods, miles from civilization, with WIFI, I'd be good.

Once they come up with realistic sex robots, I'm pretty much done with humanity.
