Muscle relaxing strain?

My dad has a couple herniated discs in his back, and for the last year or so, he has been popping hydrocodones and solmas like candy to manage his pain. Well my dad hates having to take pills. He's worried about his liver and whatnot.

The other day, my knee was killing me, I tore something in it a couple years back and ever since then I'll occasionally get horrible knee pain. Since I work with him and he doesn't like when I'm high at work, I asked him if he minded if I smoked a small bowl for my knee, cause asprin don't work worth a shit. He said sure, and I went outside. About 5 minutes later I came in pain free and feeling great.

He has always believed in the medicinal benefits of it, and about once a month or two, he'll fire up a bowl with me.

So that day he asked me about eating it, and if it got you "baked". I told him that when I ate it I had a really different high then smoking it, I was in a great mood, felt good, no pain or anything, but I wasn't baked and functioned normally.

He was wondering if there was a strain that he could eat small doses, not be "stoned" so he could still run his business, but have his back pain alleviated, and not have to pop so many pills.

He doesn't like having to smoke it, and even a tiny bit, like a tenth of a gram smoked gets him just fried. So I'm asking if there is a strain that is more suited for muscle relaxing in small doses and doesn't affect him to much in his work.

Sorry for the long winded post, if you know of a strain or two please let me know. Thanks

Two things:

1. If anything, eating cannabis will get him even MORE stoned. So, intoxication is pretty much unavoidable.

2. Are you implying that you actually have control over which strain you buy? If so, buy sativa.

But the bottom line is it sounds like he needs pain killers, not marijuana.

maybe get him onto vaping. you don't need to smoke as much for the positive effects, and it's a much different, clearer high.

The problems with eating weed products are getting the dosage right and the time it takes for the effects to be felt.

I'd agree with herb that a vaporizer would be best for medical use - if only because it`s better for the lungs than other methods of smoking.

Weed may well be a good pain reliever with minimal physiological side effects but one side effect it does have is it gets you stoned, lol.
Better than wrecking your liver though.

Your dad might try different varieties, sativa, indica, whatever, he might find something that makes an acceptable compromise providing pain relief without getting him too boxed. A lot of people consider hash to be mellower than weed.

Taking any drug , if you fight the effects you tend to have a worse time.

I do know some people that just shouldn't get stoned, it just doesn't work well for them, just like some people shouldn't drink alcohol.

A friend of mine thought he was allergic to weed or something, he never enjoyed it, just felt monged out and red eyed. Years later he realised he got an unpleasant reaction to indicas, and could enjoy toking sativa- all the weed we got back then tended to be SK#1 or NL (one a ind/sat hybrid, the other indica).

Trial and error is probably needed as anyone's reaction could be different.

i know indicas are generally more somatic with their fx. and also i think that most indicas will stone you out more than sativa because of the body high which can kind of keep you in one spot longer than you intended to be. vaping is usually a good way to lessen the couch lock/ and your not burning the herb so its assumed to be healthier.

ive heard that herb is only useful as a medicine when you vape or eat it, smoking is irritating and causes fatigue.
