Problem with weed as a medicine is it is almost impossible to maintain a regular dosage.

Smoking just enough dope can help with the anxiety / depression, smoking too much can increase the anxiety and depression.

Many anxiety attacks happen when too stoned. IMO better to smoke than not, but got to be real carefull to get the benefit from it.

marijuana in small amounts might help you relax but i would not suggest using marijuana to treat to anxiety disorder. it just wont work. if anything it will damage any potential to make progress.

If you're depressed and anxious smoking herb can make it worse.

Using drugs like herb, booze, mushrooms, and even LSD to treat anxiety/depression is a recipe for disaster IME. I know you didn't mention booze, shrooms, or LSD but I did use those at one time for self treatment of depression/anxiety and they made things 1,000X worse.

If you don't want to go on meds you can always try talking to a therapist and you may find this to be very helpful and more effective than meds are depending on how bad your depression/anxiety is and if you have other issues.

If anyone has any suggestions on strains as well, it would be greatly appreciated!

It really interesting to read what everyone has wrote. The best advice I can give you from personal experience is that you have to try things out on your own and find out what works for you.

I was diagnosed with severe anxiety/depression almost a year ago, I would say. I have tried many different medications, and its hard to find what works. My psychiatrist said weed would cause me to get paranoid, so I never tried it. However, when I finally decided to try it after refusing for a long time, I actually found that it relaxed me and helped me to understand myself better. Sometimes my best thinking has come out when I am super stoned.

I have found that some weed has made me go a little bit more on the anxious side, however I also noticed that those where the ones that were of a slightly lower quality. I find that the better quality the weed is, the less anxious I am going to get.

I am not sure if you have tried smoking hash, but if you haven't, definitly try. I find that is the best way to get me less anxious and do the best thinking. If u ever need adivce, u can always ask on me. I have pretty much been through everything.

There is a good program that will help you attack your anxiety and depression. It will stop panic attacks immediately and provide you with good cognitive measures to STOP
suffering.
As far as smoking marajuana, YES it helps! But, don't smoke a whole joint of the good shit. Small amounts or milder weed so that you feel in control is the key.

Waving hand in class, yes sir.... I do

Hi there, yes, I use it for officially diagnosed Chronic Depression with anxiety and panic. (Please say that three times fast)

Now, I don't personally prescribed to all that mouth full, anymore. This label was hung on my neck at about 30.

Prior to then I had tried pot in college, and found it to be "fun", but not that I'd waste my time on it.

Now, since 30, it's a blessed ammendment to my regime. I know I would be prescribed many more pills if I did not use it. It helps BEYOND belief. I lost 100 lbs, not because of a diet, but because I wasn't afraid of everything, and overwhelmed by everything around me. I just could not function. Now I bike, play with my kids, I'm working again, not in the same capacity as I had, but who cares.

Life is good. I'm able to be out and about, It's good.

I used to take anti-depressants and other Rx poisons for anxiety and depression. Cannabis blows 'em all away in my opinion. I have, however, experienced anxiety with cannabis as well. In my experience, cannabis is not numbing like the Rx junk, but rather quieting and focusing. What I give my attention to is amplified. If I experience an anxious thought and give it my attention... it elevates. However, if I move my attention elsewhere, anxiety evaporates. Same with pain. Sometimes an appropriate prayer is effective and refocuses me. Used in this way, cannabis, in my opinion, doesn't take over like booze or Rxs, but instead strengthen's one's own ability to handle things.

This happens to be the function of the "Comforter" (John 14:26). In the Greek the word is parakletos and means 'called near or beside' (in context, to teach). Comfort means "to strengthen much" or "with (com) fortification (fort)".

As it relates to our discussion this would be to teach, thus strengthen, one in dealing with anxiety/depression. For me, I'm satisfied that the fruit of the tree (relief, knowledge and improved mental abilities) matches the description (to teach and strengthen).

My opinion.

Thoughts?

Hey,

I can relate to you quite a bit. I have been suffering severe anxiety/panic and depression for a long time, and have been through many medication changes. It's a little bit harder for me because I have other medical conditions that conflict with me. Anyways, what I want to explain is that like what everyone has said, you definitely have to find which strains for you work. I definitely think cannabis helps a lot with anxiety, panic and depression. I actually suffered a really severe panic attack back in March of 2009, where I didn't leave my house for three whole months, and I would NEVER take public transit. I met my fiance and started smoking with him, and it really helped me ease my nerves. Eventually I was able to leave the house and get back on transit. When I get really anxious about going out anywhere, I usually get really stoned and it helps me relax when I am out. I don't think what doctors say is true about long time use of cannabis.

Also what I was interested in knowing, is when you were trying out different medications, did they ever find out which chemical is causing you're anxiety and depression. Many people believe that it is just the serotonin, but sometimes it can be more just than that. Going through all my medication changes it was discovered that the main chemical that is not fully produced in the brain, which causes my anxiety and depression is norepinephrine. Which works with serotonin. However certain drugs will only treat one or the other, so you have to find which works.

Same with cannabis, depending on which chemical certain strains can cause problems. I know for me in particular, I can really only smoke indica or a high indica/ low sativa mix. It all depends on what works for you. Once you figure whether indica or sativa works better for you then you find more specific strains that will work better.

Also I was wondering, have you ever tried MDMA. There are scientific studies that show people who have had severe traumatic pasts, use MDMA and it helps them start the recovery process. I believe that it works on any type or anxiety because it just enhances your serotoin levels and let's you become more empathetic and feel emotions stronger. I have done MDMA many times and know that it has also helped start the recovery process because when high on it, I became more in tune with emotions and where they are actually coming from. It's just a thought. One thing i recomend in that if you are going to do MDMA make sure you are with a person you deeply trust and not a big group. That can influence it to.

Hope this helps.
