Anxiety/Panic disorder and Depression

Has anyone had any experience using cannabis as a treatment for any of these disorders or have any info on it as a treatment. I've tried everything from anti-depressants to benzos like xanax and valium to anti-psycotics like seroquel to help with my anxiety and depression and nothing has worked well without ungodly side effects

As cannabis has always been a big help, it was tough to use while on probation and now that I'm off I'd rather use it than some pharmaceudical medicine.

If anyone has any suggestions on strains as well, it would be greatly appreciated!

i think this might be something you need to figure out by experimenting with different strains. find out which ones make you feel at ease and try to use only those. i know some strains make me feel relaxed, but some stains make me EDGEY and PARANOID.

You've got to find the strain which helps you best. Got any fave types you've tried?

Generally early finished sativas give a cerebral, heady, souring high, possibly paranoiac.
Late finished indicas give a gouchy, warm body high, possibly disabling.

That's just the general trend, different strokes for different folks and all that.

Scrip meds usually have side effects and can cause long term kidney and liver damage.

However weed isn't the best medicine for everyone, it could make anxiety or panic attacks worse or lead to unhelpful circular though patterns. It all depends on the user.

I have issues with anxiety and depression, and I find that weed can help with anxiety somewhat, in low doses, but not so much with depression. In fact, it kinda frees up my mind to think of more fucked up shit, so it's a bad choice for me when depressed. However, when I'm just tense and wound up, it can really help.

My 2¢

That makes no sense, what doctors say that?

Maybe government funded 'researchers' who are payed to FIND those specific results, but real mothafuckas know the herb is all about stress management

Its not an anti-depressant, there are much better drugs for that, (mdma or psychedelics would do better in my opinion, not everyday use of course. MAOI's i hold a grudge against. ) but when it comes to dealing with petty day to day bullshit cannabis is the best

Most of the predominatly sativa strains i've tried work best for me as far as anxiety and dealing with depression while indica based strains seem to work best for sleep. I've found this to particualary true with various purple strains.

That's so true what you said Rev about it helps in small doses. I've found at certain times if I smoke too much I can feel more anxious than before expecially after "coming down".

I've been looking at info on this subject and hope to post some good info when I find it and am continuing to try different strains to see what works. Thanks for all the comments so far. I'm hoping I can find a strain and system to works for me.. It's been rough man.

dont forget a healthy dose of actually working through the issues that cause you to feel depressed and anxious along with the drugs.

that was what helped me the most when i was on SSRI's. one without the other is useless

you DO have the mental strength to be happy and secure with yourself, you might have to work through some painful shit but thats how nature strengthens

i've always got the hunch that any anxiety/paranoia due to cannabis is not the drug itself but rather the social environment in which we are forced to partake of it.

i've never been depressed or anything, at least not clinically diagnosed. but i can say for sure that weed doesn't just help me forget my anxieties, it helps me reason my way through them and recognize that they are the result of a thought-pattern. in other words, not something that is happening to me but something that i am bringing to the table this very moment. something about the weed eases the grip of my ego, helping me to identify among various possibilities the reasons why i am thinking this way, and more importantly how i can think differently to allay this feeling.

yes, cannabis has helped me though more than its fair share of shit. . .

^in other words its not the chemicals making you anxious and paranoid its YOU making you anxious and paranoid based on what you perceive as threats in your environment

i definitely agree (when it comes to the effects of cannabis at least, obviously anxiety/panic disorder is a very real very serious issue)

unless they were raised in a place where there is no stigma whatsoever associated with smoking the reefer, i'm afraid my logic is flawless

Hey guys, ive ran through the gambit of drugs. ssri's 5 times, benzos out the ass, all kinds of shit.

Nothing works, not well, xanax helps but the amount of xanax i need to feel normal, also makes me goofy, so its out.

I recently read about no flush b3 niacinamide (NOT NIACIN ITS DIFFERENT)

This SPECIFIC type of b3, has been known to be more effective than benzos...

Ill be doing a report on myself, ill let everyone know how it goes.

yeah, for sure if you already have those things it can make them worse. but for people who arent pre-exposed to that condition im pretty sure the consensus is that it helps with stress and anxiety. at least indica buds. im just talkin about 'normal' people who smoke weed everyday and dont experience those things.
