My next door neighbor has mesothelioma, some wicked nasty kind of lung cancer. He's always in pain and seems to be wasting away. I figured that since he has lung cancer it would be a bad idea to offer to smoke with him, but maybe some medicated edibles would do him well. The tricky part is, I have no idea how he feels about pot and its wrong in my eyes to medicate someone without their knowledge, so no just sending him brownies. Any suggestions on how to best broach the subject?

Yes, I have a suggestion.
Find a relevant article that you like and share it with him. "Hey (neighbor), I read this article / watched this video recently and thought of you. Maybe this could help you. I dunno... what do you think?" Then, with concern and love, all you did was think of him and share 3rd party information. You can let him decide for himself what to do with it. Helpful? |

Very helpful. Im a more direct person, and all I could think of was to go "Hey Bill, I got something i think may help you but I'm not sure how you're gonna take this..." The link you included is great. When he gets back from fishing I will go over and talk to him.

It's cool to suggest it.
Yeah don't spike the poor bloke! A chronically ill first time user on a lot of meds should be careful about dosage, especially with edibles. Supervision definitely advised. Dosage should determined with reference to the other meds, it can be quite tricky.

Can you clarify this for me? I can recognize that a first timer would totally flip out if I gave him the same potency I would take myself, no questions there.

Depends what meds he's on.
If he's on a lot of opiates mj can help a lot as it tends to make the opiates work better so enabling a reduced dose but obviously care needs to be taken not to reduce too much too soon and also not to overdo the mj as throwing a whitey will be no fun at all. It's a lot easier if the patient can smoke as the effects are fairly obvious toke by toke as the onset is pretty quick. IDK if anyone else here knows a little more about medicating and lung cancer?

I figured that with mesothelioma, smoking may be a bad idea. His cancer is pretty well progressed, and I don't own a vape any more so thats out of the question. Medicated edibles seem the best way to go. My main concern is the obvious pain he's in, as well as the fact that he has to weigh less than 100 lbs now.

Well I think it would be a good thing to at least mention it to him. It will help with appetite.

I will indeed mention it to him when I see him next, along with the aforementioned article.

wasting is one of the biggest factors in the progression of cancer, especially lung cancer. the tumors sap alot of nutrients from the healthy tissues in the body which leads to even an even weaker state, and then leads to death.
smoking or eating ganja may help your neighbor to eat, which could in turn, help him to live longer and more comfortably. id just be up front, and approach as a compassionate person who thinks that they can help.
