Supreme Court Limits Police Searches of Homes

The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that police without a warrant cannot search a home when one resident says to come in but another tells them to go away, and the court's new leader complained that the ruling could hamper investigations of domestic abuse. Justices, in a 5-3 decision, said that police did not have the authority to enter and search the home of a small town Georgia lawyer even though the man's wife invited them in.

Having marijuana in your house is illegal, but having marijuana images on your house is not, according to town officials. Five months after Christopher Seekins was arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana in his home, neighbors have complained about the giant marijuana leaves he has spray-painted on the outside of his home on High Street.

CANNABIS may help combat problems such as intestinal ulcers and Crohn's disease. Researchers said they found the drug helped the surface cells of the bowel survive in laboratory experiments.

Drugs expert Dr Karen Wright, of Bath University, said: "That means that cannabinoids might well promote wound healing in patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

"We don't know how they do this but they are probably promoting the closure of the wound." She said the team were planning a clinical trial.

Future American lawyers to be proud of...

[U.S. Attorney General] Alberto Gonzales spoke before law students at Georgetown Law School today [2006-03-07], attempting to justify illegal, unauthorized surveillance of US citizens, but during the course of his speech the students in class did something pretty ballsy and brave. They got up from their seats and turned their backs to him.

To make matters worse for Gonzales, additional students came into the room, wearing black cowls and carrying a simple banner, written on a sheet.

Fortunately for him, it was a brief speech ...

...followed by a panel discussion which basically ripped his argument in half. And, as one of the people on the panel said: When you're a law student, they tell you that if you can't argue the law, argue the facts. They also tell you if you can't argue the facts, argue the law. If you can't argue either, apparently, the solution is to go on a public relations offensive and make it a political issue...

...to say over and over again "it's lawful", and to think that the American people will somehow come to believe this if we say it often enough. In light of this, I'm proud of the very civil civil disobedience that was shown here today.
