300000 Iraq & Afghan Vets Suffer PTSD & Depression
300000 Iraq & Afghan Vets Suffer PTSD & Depression DN Report
300,000 US troops who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are suffering from major depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. This, according to a new study by the RAND Corporation. Researchers say nearly 20 percent of the troops who served in the war zones are suffering PTSD and depression, but only half of them have sought treatment. RAND researcher Terri Tanielian said, “Unless they receive appropriate and effective care for these mental health conditions, there will be long-term consequences for them and for the nation.” The study also estimates that 320,000 service members had experienced a possible traumatic brain injury while deployed. Researchers say female soldiers and reservists had the highest rates of post-traumatic stress disorder and major depression. Meanwhile, in Texas, the Dallas VA Medical Center has been forced to close its psychiatric ward to new patients after the suicides of four veterans this year. ![]() Israel To Soothe Trauma With Marijuana By Corinne Heller October 02, 2004 IDF To Treat Shell Shock With Cannabis Israel August 05, 2004 The IDF will soon begin using cannabis to treat soldiers suffering from combat stress, the military said Wednesday. An army statement said the military medical corps and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem would begin treating victims of post-traumatic stress - commonly known as shell shock - with THC, the active ingredient in the cannabis plant. It said the treatment would begin on an experimental basis. The use of THC as part of the treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder was approved by military and civilian committees relevant to the subject, the statement said. Isn't that practically all of them?
Not to mention the failled/succesfull suicides not reported or that "don't count" off the field or at home. The other side of this "two-faced" coin is the contractor mercinery yahoos. Living it up, shooting it up for a year of less, and leave whenever they want for double the pay. When troops get redeployed over and over again with longer tours. We're breaking the one thing keeping us safe. When we get attacked, the only people to respond will be beer bellied michigan militia weekend warriors types w/ pristine assualt rifles, in toyota tundra's or 'compact' humvies. "Canadian Bacon - John Candy" style.

WoW
I for one want to thank you for posting this. I am a combat vet, I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and As well as a tour in afghanastan. I was discharged from the army with a general under honorable conditions due to the fact that I used marijuana to help me with my PTSD and Depression. Honestly it works. It keeps me from wanting to smash peoples faces in. The military is all I ever wanted in my life Since I was kid. I joined the infantry which is what I wanted. The governments of the world who illegalize marijuana are wrong for doing so and know it. There are thousands of vets who use the herb for the same reason. I know of numerous vets still in ( rangers and green berets ) who also use it. I dont feel you even need to post anymore on why marijuana should be legalized. it's not the people who made the laws. It's the dumbasses everyone votes for. Why has everyone forgotten the basic fundamentals of why this country was founded. WE THE PEOPLE have the RIGHT to appoint the government we choose. WE THE PEOPLE also have the RIGHT to remove that very same government if needed. Why has everyone forgotten that. hundreds of websites around the internet have thousands upon thousands if not millions of supporters who are being supressed by laws that incriminate those who use marijuana ( your soldiers, Protectors, sons, daughters, grandmothers, grandfathers, moms, and dads alike. ) Why is everytone so damn affraid to step up as one voice and exercise the very rights those 300000 soldiers fight for. The morally obvious RIGHTS that the Elected (BY THE PEOPLE ) Lawmakers sworn to protect have MANGLED in every possible suppressive way. Stop leaving your soldiers hanging. Take care of us, we are hurting. Step up and make the changes you have the Right to make. I'm no scholar but I do watch John adams and the history channel. I know my rights and I'm willing to do something about it. One voice wont be heard. UNITED we're HIGH. Divided we're CRIMINALS.
What a bunch of bullshit.

This is something pleasant coming down the road.
More military recruites have a felony criminal background. Give'em a few years in 130 degree heat, and send'em home more broken than before.
