1) Corporate welfare is a large and growing component of the federal budget. America's most costly welfare recipients today are Fortune 500 companies. In 1997 the Fortune 500 corporations recorded best-ever earnings of $325 billion, yet incredibly Uncle Sam doled out nearly $75 billion in taxpayer subsidies.

2) Almost all of the most egregious subsidies are in the forms of federal expenditures, not tax loopholes... These spending programs not only cost taxpayers money directly, but also create an unhealthy corporate dependence on federal subsidies.

3) Many Fortune 500 companies are double and triple dippers.

4) There are no time limits for corporate welfare benefits.

5) If all corporate welfare were eliminated, the savings would be large enough to entirely eliminate the capital gains tax or the death tax.

* We could cut the personal income tax, the corporate income tax, or the payroll tax.

* We could entirely abolish the capital gains tax or the death tax.

* We could help finance a flat tax at a rate of 20 percent for all Americans.

6) Corporate welfare corrupts the political process. One perverse, but predictable outcome of a $100 billion-plus corporate welfare state is that industry begins to view Congress, rather than consumers, as their real customers. Moreover, industry has done an all effective job at protecting their subsidies.

am tired of hearing about class warfare. Rich vs. poor. I came from a low income household where we all lived paycheck to paycheck and did what we could to survive. I am not too far above that level now but am much better than i was. I lived with out running water for 2 months because it took us that long to save up to buy a new water pump and I had to learn how to install it myself. I got tired of living like that so I got up and did something about it. I am now planning to start my own business and go back to school for business. How am I paying for classes? One paycheck and class at a time. There are only a few percentage of people in the US born into money when you compare it to the people who go and give their blood, sweat and tears into becoming something better. You wanna know how the G men got the people to pass income taxes? They made the poor pissed off at the rich... class warfare. But hard work is lost on our generation. Everyone one wants something for nothing. How exactly do the rich pay less taxes? Whenever someone increases their earnings they are moved into a higher tax bracket, meaning they pay MORE taxes. At my job now, I pay out around $350 bi weekly for income tax. If I work more than 16 hours overtime, which is often because my regular schedule gives me automatic overtime, I have paid upwards of $425 or more. So I think the less you make, the less you contribute to the society. Now with that said, I do hate corporate cronyism. When you have large companies paying politicians to make laws in their favor, then there is definitely something wrong. That is why industrial hemp is illegal because big oil and big pharmaceutical companies pay millions to keep it that way. That is what is wrong with our system. If you want true freedom you can't crap on free enterprise, just get rid of the cronies. Politicians definitely are not going to give it to you. We have to unite and demand freedom. Its also funny that the swine flu "epidemic" started around the same time congress is trying to pass a national health care bill. YAY! Lets all be government dependents and voluntarily give up our freedom. Politicians don't want weed legal because it helps people become more of a free thinker. Why do you think Nixon started the drug war? The hippies back in the day demanded freedom and free thinking, which led to protests against the government and their backward dealings. But it is BIG BS that corporations are being bailed out and are given ridiculous money from the gov. That could help with college LOANS (not give aways) and other things that will actually improve our economy. Also, there was a corporate giant (no names, research it!) that recently tried to payback their bailout money but Obama refused to take it. Why? Because part of the original deal was that the government was going to give bailout money in exchange for an interest in said companies until the loan was paid back. Now they refuse the pay back so the government can keep part ownership. That should be scary to anyone who wants freedom.
