I read that, but I don't exactly understand it, so the new drug czar is saying he will stop harassing drug users and will seek to lower punishment by treating them instead of jail time? Did i understood correctly up to there? and thats a ray of hope towards legalization? right up to there?
Well if thats how it is, you americans better push it before 4 years pass and he gets replaced... |

The laws must change for anything real to happen.
Officially stating that something is going to happen does not make it so. A change in directives must be issued to all federal agencies (the ones that will lose funding) involved. Otherwise, for the cop on the street, and the kid arrested for smoking a joint, nothing has changed. Marijuana must be reclassified from schedule one narcotic, for anything meaningful (to me) to have happened. This would open almost every door that has been closed by cannabis being incorrectly classed. All that needs be proven ...Is that Nixon really was insane in creating this "War on Drugs". Not too hard a task in my eyes.

The drug czar doesn't have the power to enforce any of these changes himself, but Mr. Kerlikowske plans to work with Congress and other agencies to alter current policies.

"Treatment" means you are presumed guilty and have no possibility of being found not-guilty. It is forced religion. "Recovery" is a religion, as are all the anonymous 12-step groups; a government sanctioned, government forced religion.
It does not work. It would never get FDA approval as less than 10% ever 'recover'. "Treatment" is full-employment for religious zealots and is as bad or worse than jail. |

The fact this is an improvement says what state we were in before and little about the attitude change that adults should have the right to ingest anything they damn well please. The article makes mention several times that the czar isn't for legalization whatsoever. Send me to rehab instead of jail is the jist of it all.

LOL...
AA didn't work , so they went on to create NA, CA etc. for each specific drug. The biggest problem with the 12 step programs is not teaching people how to live beyond them. The next biggest problem is the first step...as most I've met doing the twelve step shuffle really aren't "addicted" to anything. Judges call it the "Abuse Excuse", that criminals use to get reduced sentences. So you end up with a few who have a real "social" problem....say drinking....and a majority of "forced" attendees. With addiction, after the physical withdrawl is overcome, it's all mental. And the 12 step game just doesn't offer the qualified psychological evaluation nor treatment needed to reduce the desire to return to addiction.

good god some people are never happy about anything. did any of you ever in your wildest dreams consider that THE ACTING HEAD OF US DRUG CONTROL POLICY would ever say anything along lines such as these? small though the step is for practical purposes it's evel knievel leaping across the grand canyon in terms of what's gone on in our past. really now, some perspective is warranted. the guy's hardly been in office a week and he's already stirring the pot more than it's ever been stirred my entire life.

Obama's already had some short really short term appointees.
What's one more. Seriously ? I remember Nixon. I remember the then Governor of my home state of Pennsylvania, doing a very thorough and in depth study of cannabis resulting in the determination that cannabis was not only relatively harmless but also had some medical value. Which Nixon basically shit on, and went with his own insane "War on Drugs". Nixon couldn't figure out why the Jews would want those anarchist potheads who want to overthrow the government to have cannabis. And don't edit this v3da ...because it's exactly what Nixon said. The shit that comes out of a politicians mouth doesn't sway me either way. But when a law is written....then you've got my (everyones) attention. And that is simply years away, if then.

hasn't this guy kind of made it his mission in his home state of washington, as police chief of seattle, to highlight the importance of treating drugs non-criminally? why would obama expect anything else out of him in selecting him to head his admin's drug policy?
man i hope being old is different when i get there :P

I thought I could go home to the 20 acres that was left me by my father (my grand-mother's dowry) and spend a comfortable retirement in the mountains of Alabama growing my own. Instead I have been through more Hell than I ever dreamed anyone could suffer. I do most assuredly know what these 'treatment' programs are all about, and they are as bad and worse than jail. What struck me about the article is the following sentence: Quote:
It's all about CONTROL. Law enforcement loves drug prohibition, and particularly marijuana prohibition, because it allows them to act out their sadistic fantasies on pretty much anyone - and CONTROL pretty much the entire population while robbing, torturing, and jailing a large percentage of it. I've seen the signs of that. If so I will bid a sad fairwell. I see the content of my thread "This guy SERIOUSLY needs 'sensitivity training'" has been removed. I have asked why in another thread. I do not intend to post in a forum where my posts are edited by someone else. If that is happening please inform me and I will delete my account here immediately. |
