Lynch is the former owner and managing Caregiver for Central Coast Compassionate Caregivers in Morro Bay. Despite the recent policy changes Charles C. Lynch was to be sentenced on April 23, 2009 at the Federal Court House in Los Angeles, but Judge Wu continued the sentencing until June 11, 2009 to give defense lawyers more time to provide legal briefings to get around the Mandatory Minimums. First, the defendant may provide 'substantial assistance' to the government by turning in other defendants. Second, some defendants qualify for the 'safety valve' that Congress passed in 1994 to address (at FAMM’s urging) the excessive sentences served by non-violent drug offenders. If the judge finds the defendant is a low-level, non-violent, first-time offender who qualifies for the safety valve, the defendant may be sentenced under the sentencing guidelines instead of the mandatory minimum sentence law. Although the safety valve is a step in the right direction, the criteria for eligibility is very narrow so thousands of nonviolent drug defendants are still sent to prison for decades under mandatory minimum sentencing laws." Native Americans Religious Rights Denied (excerpts)
24-02-2009 The county sheriff then got in Crandy’s face: “Just stand here and shut the fuck up! We don’t give a fuck about your religious rights!” Two Native American brothers whose crops were raided last summer passionately disagree – because the name of their tribe, Tuscarora, literally translates to “People of the Hemp.” The boat people – these citizens of the United States – came here to escape religious persecution,” he says. “But when they got here from Europe, they started persecuting what they call our pagan religion!” ~ Crandy Johnson, a roadman (ceremonial leader) in the Native American Church What can never be disputed is the fact that the Tuscarora have been known as the “People of the Hemp” for centuries – long before the invaders arrived. In fact, the name evolved from the Iroquoian word skaru’ren (“hemp gatherers”), bestowed because of the tribe’s gathering and use of Indian hemp for fiber. In Joseph Campbell’s authoritative volume The Way of the Seeded Earth, the Tuscarora are noted to have used hemp for “medicine” as well. The Ganjawar Comes To The Rez Celebrity Stoners: American High Society INDIAN HEMP AND THE DOPE FIENDS OF OLD ENGLAND Sean Blanchard & Matthew J. Atha MSc A sociopolitical history of cannabis and the British Empire 1840-1928 When the report of the Indian Hemp Drugs Commission (IHDC) reached 1890's England it met official and public apathy. There was no political debate. It went into the 'forget about this' file on arrival and has stayed there ever since. There was no publicity; The news that "Ganja is not appreciably harmful" was of no concern to the majority of users, who took cannabis products for their medical benefits. The non-medical users were mostly artists who didn't mind a little harm. Prohibitionist sentiment was concentrated on the opium trade between India and China and on alcohol at home. Cannabis use in England was considered negligible, and the authorities were content to have no laws at all controlling it for another thirty years. continued... ![]() Photo of bhang drinkers, from the Indian Hemp Drugs Commission report, 1893 Yes, I know that Showtime is blatantly manipulating me into giving free advertising to their show, but how can I pass it up? Showtime's Weeds DWR: Drug Czar Kerlikowske testified on the budget yesterday. I may have more on this later. It was a bit.. odd. I felt like I needed to be reading between the lines at times. Sure, there was a lot of the standard stuff that a drug czar would say in such a presentation (justifying all the budget items with the drug war language of the past), but then there were statements like this: There continues to be much discussion in the media about whether personal use of drugs should be decriminalized. What we cannot lose sight of during this discussion, is that we all agree addiction is a preventable and treatable chronic condition. Notice the use of a non-sequitur instead of denunciation, and the offhand acceptance of the idea of discussion. He also made another statement that we need to hold up to him whenever possible: During my tenure, debate will be continuous and inclusive of disparate ideas. ![]() CNN: FBI director schooled on marijuana by Rep. It's a nice extended interview, and gives you a chance to get to know Kerlikowske's style a little bit. It's a mixed bag, with lots of pretty offensive stuff (of course) and some odd material where he puts on his tap shoes and dances up a storm. Here are a couple of the exchanges... Note: After the interview, the interviewer took questions from listeners. I didn't listen to all of them, but there were some very good ones who really nailed Kerlikowske on his points (including one who apparently had read The Drug Czar is required by law to lie and referenced the provisions. “To forbid or even seriously restrict the use of so holy and gracious a herb would cause widespread suffering and annoyance, and to large bands of worshipped ascetics, deep-seated anger. The Global Ganja Gathering of 2009
4/20 @ 4:20 These DEAth Merchants and War Brokers have no humanity in their bottom line. We would harp on any foreign country terrorizing the elderly and sick. Instant demonizing, profiled and plastered over the media. But no deviating from the manual for terrorizing our own finding aid with Ganja. So many red flags not seen or censored. Stories hidden in hopes of being forgotten, who in the hell do they think they're kidding? Ganja is or Ganja isn't. Physics says it is. Debates over. DEAth lies are a means to a semi-religious duty of a kind of puritanical unattainable goal of perpetuating profits maintaining dysfunction. The dirty DEAty use violence intimidation and degradation to cleanse the loyal masses. I sincerely don't advocate violence on these liars and scum, not that I give a damn about their safety. They deserve the gallows along with Boosheney Klintoongord and their administrations torturing Ganja users either Psychologically or Physically. Including Oblamo's DNC ditto's and rehashed Klintoonians. I don't advocate violence because they have all the big guns and I hate cages. Include the Corporation clones and Banksters these elected lobbyists work for. Damn their black hearts! DdC WAMM Why is the DEA terrorizing sick people? We've lost 40 members this year, and that number will increase because of this raid, ~ Diana Dodson "Yes, we still survive the DEA's raid and American injustice. We were raided Sept. 5 at 6:50 am. However, that's just a minor interference by the federal government into the lives of sick and dying people. No injustice will keep us from our work, no injustice will stop the truth." During the Sept. 5 raid, 20 gun-toting DEA agents, led by Patrick Kelly, stormed the WAMM property, arresting a pajama-clad Corral and husband Michael before razing 130 marijuana plants to the ground with chain saws. DEA agents destroyed WAMM's 2002 crop, thus depriving the cooperative's 238 members of the medicine they use to treat AIDS, cancer, epilepsy and other fatal and highly painful disorders. "This is an act of violence under guise of the law," ~ Joe Wouk, WAMM supporter said as the DEA drove away in SUV vans and U-Haul trucks stuffed with massacred pot plants. "56 percent of all people using illegal drugs are using marijuana. Legalizing marijuana would create a chink in the DEA's armor, a lot of budgets would go south. That's why they don't care how many sick people are hurt by this." ~ Bruce Mirken, Medical Marijuana Policy Project communications director. An Indictment, Not an Obituary – by Richard Cowan Peter McWilliams, 50, best selling author, poet, photographer, publisher, libertarian crusader, medical marijuana activist, AIDS patient and cancer survivor, was found dead on the floor of his bathroom, apparently having choked to death after vomiting, for want of medical marijuana. There will be an autopsy, but whatever the immediate cause of death may have been, he was murdered by the United States Government as surely as if they shot him. [url=http://www.newagecitizen.co m/RainbowFarm.htm]The Rainbow Farm Massacre For over 5 years Rainbow Farm was the location of the best Pro-Hemp Festivals in the Mid-West. The 2-3 day festivals drew crowds of Drug Reform Activists that numbered literally in the thousands. Over the Labor Day weekend (in September of 2001) over 100 Local, State and Federal agents descending onto the grounds of Rainbow Farm. In the next few days they stalked and murdered the owner, Tom Crosslin and his friend Roland Rohm. Drug War Travesties Eugene Siler. Cops torture him to get him to sign a consent form for their search of his place. ![]() Why I do some of what I do DWR: Pete Guither May 19, 2009 Whenever I take apart one of Mark Kleiman's posts -- when I take him to task for understanding the failures of prohibition, yet being unwilling to consider drug policy reform points, or being unwilling to give up his "we can make prohibition work better" philosophy -- inevitably someone asks why I bother. This is why. In addition to his web journalism, Mark is one of the nation's leading drug policy experts. His book Against Excess remains an essential reference. So he ought to know. It is precisely because Kleiman is widely considered an expert, and is extremely knowledgeable, that I must hold him to account when his blind spots cause him to lose the ability for rational thought. [Note: Kleiman's referenced post is not bad in itself this time, other than the reflexive need to find away to mention his latest idée fixe/silver bullet at the end.] Kleiman, ConPromising is a way of life or lack thereof. DdC Kleiman was Les Aspins boy, Father of Don't Ask Don't Tell. Now I don't have a dog in this fight, Being a happy hetero grand pa. I've been against every "Police Action" since Nam. But its bad policy and the same fear mongers against some drugs have abused this to remove more gays than before. Even stepping up discharges under Oblamo. Klintoon busted more pot users than Nexxon, Furd, Rayguns and Boosh. Some serving 18 years with honors, many battles fought and millions in taxes spent training them to kill. But not enough for teachers or health care. Same bad policy makers, now making drug war policy. Iraq war on lies selling Rumsfeld's Searle Pharmaceuticals and Medical supplies. Asbetos Halliburton Cheney and Boosh Dyncorps getting rich while Demowhimps bow and lick their penny loafers. 300,000 returning Iraq Vets with PTSD, another don't ask don't tell. Finding re-leafing a way to cope and forget some of the horrible scenes running through their minds each night. Go directly to jail dishonoribly booted. Flag jerkers spastically cheering these kids with their Iraq crude oil plastic rwb banners made in Asian sweatshops. Now where are these Pat Riots? The Fortune 700 club gossipers and timid donkey's making policy? Re-hashed Klintoonians and Boosheney left overs. Vote for me and I'll set you free... Democowards and Doormats. Gitmos ok now, nimby's fear hurling teabags on each other, how weak they are. Best keep a symbol of hate and dispicible acts that go on routinly. Can't critique the spooks or old yeller journalists pop up like prairiedog heads. Super maxiepad prisons ain't good enough for so called "terrorists"? Same liars deeming them so, pretty quick, and still no 911 questions answered. So at best I'd say terror assumptions. Wrestling a senior women with polio to the floor pointing an automatic weapon at her head for using Ganja to ease aches and pains. Thats terrorists. I think it was said after the rape by Boosheney, anythings better. One day Wallmart St's just fine, the next we're broke and now have layed off 5000 more teachers. Not a word about Enron gouging and shutting down refineries or brown outs - recalls then poof we got Aunuld. 10 new cages since Rayguns, 1 University = cheap labor. Only thing more plentiful in government than Liars and Greed are Gringdit Hypocrites. I should burn my hemp flag so I don't feel like a traitor to the Constitution smoldering in the Oval Office and Whore House of Reprehensibles. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) today vetoed the medical marijuana bill just passed by the Minnesota Legislature.
MPP has been lobbying in Minnesota for five years, pushing our medical marijuana bill closer and closer to passing. The Senate passed our bill on May 4, and on Monday, the House followed suit … the first time a medical marijuana bill has been debated on the floor of the Minnesota House in history. However, because the governor had been threatening a veto, the House narrowed the scope of the bill, hoping to find common ground with the governor and start protecting Minnesota's patients from arrest and jail. The final version of the bill was watered down beyond what any medical marijuana advocates wanted to see — in its ultimate version protecting only terminally ill patients. And yet disgustingly, the governor still vetoed it, while simultaneously claiming that he “has great empathy for the sick” … the same sick and dying people he has now sentenced to arrest and jail. Disgusted? Me too. It's not going to end here. Every recent poll shows that Minnesotans support medical marijuana by a 2-to-1 margin, and if the governor won't listen to them, we can bypass him entirely. In Minnesota, constitutional amendments bypass the governor and are instead ratified by voters after passing the legislature. We can lobby next year to pass a constitutional amendment for a comprehensive medical marijuana law that would appear on the state's November 2010 ballot. continued...[/i] Good News/Bad News From Minnesota ![]() Why Do Christians Worship Greed? I am a medical cannabis patient and operated a non profit collective here in San Diego until last February when my house was raided and I arrested in ‘Operation Green Rx’ later announced by the District Attorney in a press conference as ‘Operation Endless Summer’. In this operation a local San Diego Police Detective lied to his doctor about his identity and condition, obtained a valid recommendation for medical marijuana and joined the majority of the medical collectives and coops listed on the San Diego section of the CA NORML list. The detective called me and joined the collective. While pretending to be a sick patient, he requested that I deliver medical cannabis to him. Having seen him once and provided him with a ? ounce of medical cannabis, I am now facing 4 felony charges, $65,000 bail, and permanent damage to my professional and personal life. This was a clear and direct attempt to shut down all non profit medical marijuana collective cultivation/distribution efforts in San Diego. ![]() Eugene Davidovich Please join me in the struggle for patients' rights to collectively cultivate medication by supporting me in court on June 8th. State Senator Proposes Medical Marijuana Bill By Doug Denison
CN Source: Dover Post May 27, 2009 Dover, Del. Delaware soon could be the 14th state in the nation to allow its citizens to possess and use marijuana for medical purposes, if a bill introduced May 27 in the state Senate is passed. Del. Senate Bill Would Legalize Medical Marijuana Medical marijuana passes Illinois Senate; head of drug task force thinks it's a bad idea Wednesday, May 27, 2009 Senate approves medical marijuana bill, sends it to House A measure legalizing medical marijuana finally made it through the state Senate on Wednesday, but a major hurdle remains before it can become Illinois law. The Senate voted 30-28 for Senate Bill 1381, giving the measure right at the 30 'yes' votes needed to pass. The measure would allow doctors to prescribe cannabis to patients with diseases like AIDS and glaucoma. [...] The measure now heads to the House. At a statehouse press conference earlier in the year, Rep. Lou Lang said he was unsure how far any medical marijuana measure would get in the House. Nice quote in the debate from Sen. Mike Jacobs (D-East Moline) "Do you find it at all interesting that people view drugs made by man as better than drugs made by God?" Jacobs said during debate. "This is something that someone can drop in their backyard and find relief from, and there's some of us in this chamber that would prefer Oxycontin, morphine; would prefer mommy's little helper, uppers, downers, all-arounders." Elsewhere in the news, John Binny, commander of the State Line Area Narcotics Team, a law enforcement organization serving Stephenson, Jo Daviess and other counties in northwest Illinois and southwest Wisconsin, lectures readers about medical issues, scientific research, the proper way to conduct agricultural activities, and, apparently, logic. Coca, Bolivia, and Law 1008 ![]() Oh, the horror. Look what happens when you decriminalize marijuana! Complaining About Those Who Complain About Marijuana Marijuana has actually been decriminalized to the perfect degree. It's still illegal enough so the government can't regulate and dilute its potency while charging way too much money for it, and it's legal enough for us to be able to smoke it pretty much whenever and wherever we choose, with little to no consequences. So I say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Unless you hippies are out there every year fighting for the right to worse and more expensive pot, then you should take a step back to think about what you're actually doing. Now, don't get me wrong. I see where you are coming from ideologically speaking. I agree that, in theory, it seems unjust that a harmless plant like marijuana should be illegal to consume while dangerous drugs like Viagra ( which give boners to old men ) are not only legal, but are advertised and promoted on national television. I know I'd personally rather live in a society with a bunch of lethargic people eating ketchup chips than with a bunch of horny gyrating old men, but I think when it comes to political protest, we should all look at the bigger picture and choose our battles more carefully. Because if we don't we might get what you dirty hippies seem to keep asking for: expensive shitty weed that you can only buy on weekdays before 9:30 at night. Rather than retire the original 71 officials of the agency indicted by the committee, investigations by Saturday Punch showed that only nine had been retired while the NDLEA sacrificed the career of 62 other innocent officers to make up the number, thereby shielding members of the cartel. The cover-up was said to have been done to stop the powerful cartel from executing its alleged threat to expose some former and serving top-level management personnel who had aided its illegal activities. Now that's a persuasive speech Link
At the end of his speech Tuesday urging legalization of marijuana, a 17-year-old Peninsula High School student pulled out a joint, lit it and smoked away. Then he ate the remains. For that he got a quick escort to the school office and then a ride to Remann Hall juvenile jail. The stunt was celebrated among some of the teen's peers but was frowned on to say the least by law enforcement officers and district administrators. "We believe in freedom of speech and encourage it, but illegal activities are absolutely not going to be tolerated in our district," schools Superintendent Terry Bouck said. Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said, "If people want that law changed, they need to go about it the right way." He did admit, though, that the student's action will prompt discussion. "It sure will probably bring a lot of attention to the issue," Troyer said. So what is the right way to go about changing the law, Mr. Troyer? The student has not been charged with a crime -- probably due to the lack of evidence. ![]() "In a republic like ours, people often think that the proper response to an unjust law is to try to use the political process to change the law, but to obey and respect the law until it is changed. US Drug Czar Calls for End To 'War on Drugs' By Andy Sullivan
CN Source: Reuters June 05, 2009 Washington, D.C. The Obama administration's top drug cop plans to spend more money on treating addiction and scale down the "war on drugs" rhetoric as part of an overhaul of U.S. counternarcotics strategy. Organics and Pesticides: Isn't It Ironic
FAIR has often complained that too much of journalism consists of reprinting press releases virtually verbatim. But in this case, journalists took the time to take the central finding of a study and stand it on its head. If pesticide residue in food is a story worth covering, media could have alerted readers that it is present in a large majority of the produce most commonly eaten. And for readers who are concerned about that, they could have pointed out that buying organic was a simple way to dramatically reduce your chances of consuming such chemicals. Legalize It! The process is similar to the paradigm of fluoridation, in which the dumping of EPA certified hazardous wastes into the water supply saves industry the cost of disposal, while at the same time affecting the neurological and behavioral capabilities of the population, as well as producing vast medical profits from the long-term neurophysiological effects. pesticideabortionist s ![]() Corporate Ownership Almost all media that reach a large audience in the United States are owned by for-profit corporations--institutions that by law are obligated to put the profits of their investors ahead of all other considerations.
