Unhappy Cannabis Campaigner To Take Own Life

A wheelchair-bound cannabis campaigner plans to take her own life with an overdose of paracetamol and champagne after putting her case to legalise the drug at a court case next week.

Biz Ivol, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, is already planning her own funeral and has had a cardboard coffin delivered to her home in Orkney. She says she desperately wants to end her life because of the crippling pain from the illness which makes her feel like a prisoner in her own body.

However, she has pledged that she will first of all fight her charges of possessing and supplying cannabis, which she claims alleviates her suffering.

Yesterday, her MP said the case highlights the plight of MS sufferers and hopes this will be the last prosecution of its kind in the UK.

Mrs Ivol, 56, from South Ronaldsay, a long-time supporter of legalising cannabis for medicinal purposes, was charged following a police raid at her home in August 2001.

Her trial, which has been postponed several times, is now due to he heard next Wednesday at a sports centre in Kirkwall, which has better wheelchair access than the sheriff court.

She has pleaded not guilty to three charges of possessing cannabis, producing two cannabis plants and being concerned in the supply of the drug to others. The charges relate to cannabis-laced chocolates which she is accused of making and distributing to fellow sufferers across the UK.

Yesterday, as a friend assembled the eco-friendly coffin, which arrived in a flat pack, she said: "I’m going to use it as soon as the court case is over. I’m too tired now to fight on.

"I feel no-one is doing anything to make things better for people with MS and that I no longer have any quality of life. I can’t do my garden. I can’t knit and I can’t sew because my hands are dying. I can’t read because my eyes are going - there’s nothing worth staying for anymore on this earth."

She added: "I’m not frightened about what might happen to me. They can’t put me in jail because of the condition I’m in. They can’t fine me anything because I haven’t got any money. And I’m already a prisoner, trapped inside a body that’s full of pain and doesn’t work anymore."

Mrs Ivol, who says her pain is like barbed wire being dragged through her spine, began a campaign six years ago for the legalisation of the drug for medicinal use by people with MS and other conditions. It followed an earlier court case, when she was admonished after police found cannabis plants growing at her home.

She said: "I’ve lost count of the number of phone calls I’ve had from people telling me not to give up the fight. But the court case will be my last stand. I’m fed up with fighting now. It’s taken them two years to take me to court. It’s been niggling away at the back of my mind - once it’s over, I know I can’t go on any longer."

Her neighbour, Bobby McCutcheon, said friends are devastated by Mrs Ivol’s decision, but understand her desperation.

"It’s just so sad to see the coffin waiting for her in the house. She really has lost all hope, she has no interest whatsoever in being alive," he said.

Last year, David Blunkett, the Home Secretary, relaxed the law on cannabis possession, downgrading the drug from Class B to Class C.

At the time, Mrs Ivol told The Scotsman the decision made the position "as clear as mud" and said she was determined to debate the merits of cannabis use at her trial. Her plight has won backing from Alistair Carmichael, the Liberal Democrat MP for Orkney and Shetland, and the Legalise Cannabis Alliance (LCA).

Mr Carmichael said: "This is a tragic case. Biz is just wrung out with a combination of the disease and the campaign. Hopefully, this will be the last of these prosecutions. If it were, it would be quite fitting and give her some sort of comfort and satisfaction. I have told Tony Blair [the Prime Minister] that it is ridiculous that we make a criminal of someone simply trying to get relief from pain which is not available in any other way."

Summary of the Statement by Lester Grinspoon, M.D.

There are many case reports of marihuana smokers using the drug to reduce pain: post-surgery pain, headache, migraine, menstrual cramps, and so on. Ironically, the best alternative analgesics are the potentially addictive and lethal opioids. In particular, marihuana is becoming increasingly recognized as a drug of choice for the pain that accompanies muscle spasm, which is often chronic and debilitating, especially in paraplegics, quadriplegics, other victims of traumatic nerve injury, and people suffering from multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy. Many of them have discovered that cannabis not only allows them to avoid the risks of other drugs, but also reduces muscle spasms and tremors; sometimes they are even able to leave their wheelchairs.10

Having recent experience with MS I can empathise so strongly to this.

Makes me so sad.

But also so angry.

Biz Ivol Petition

The time has come to say 'enough is enough'! This petition is not about legalising cannabis, scoring points or towing the party political line. It is about justice, compassion and fair play and should be of interest to everyone - regardless of Religion, race or political allegiances.

Biz Ivol, a MS sufferer in Orkney, is in court Wednesday for using cannabis as a medicine and helping other to obtain cannabis as a medicine. Biz has been waiting 2 years for the case to come to court and her health has suffered so much that she is now bedridden and her sight has gone. The quality of Biz's life is now so bad that she no longer wishes to be alive,

"I'm not frightened about what might happen to me. They can't put me in jail because of the condition I'm in. They can't fine me anything because I haven't got any money. And I'm already a prisoner, trapped inside a body that's full of pain and doesn't work anymore."
[Biz Ivol; The Scotsman, [UK] [Friday, 13 June 2003].

Full Story from the Scotsman

NOTE: Biz has made it clear her decision to decide her own future has nothing to do with the case. She has simply had enough of suffering but wants to have her say before ending it all.

The Question still needs to be asked WHY has this prosecution been allowed to be brought forward.

Help someone out SIgh the DAM petition make a difference, if u dont want to use ur own name dont but dont ignore this womans plight !!

Worldwide Petition Backs MS Sufferer on Trial

A Petition in support of multiple sclerosis sufferer Biz Ivol has attracted more than 500 names from across the world in a week.

Mrs Ivol, from South Ronaldsay in Orkney, went on trial last week charged with cultivating, possessing and supplying cannabis, which she says has helped to alleviate the pain of MS sufferers. Mrs Ivol admitted in court that she had made cannabis-laced chocolates which were sent to people with MS, but said she did not think she was doing anything wrong.

Her trial has been continued until next month, but once it is completed she has vowed to take her own life with an overdose of paracetamol and champagne - saying the condition has left her with no quality of life. The Legalise Cannabis Alliance (LCA) set up the petition on its website just prior to the trial going ahead in Kirkwall last week, and by yesterday had attracted 517 names from the UK, America, Canada, Australia, South America and Europe.

Among the people to sign up are a Labour MP, a Conservative councillor, a Green Party candidate, a minister and the smuggler-turned-author Howard Marks. The LCA is sending the petition to the Home Office and Scottish Executive and is challenging all MPs and MSPs to sign it or be "named and shamed".

The Scottish Socialist Party has already tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament seeking support for Mrs Ivol.

In a letter to the justice department, Don Barnard, spokesman for the LCA, said: "Biz has been waiting two years for the case to come to court, and her health has suffered so much that she is now bedridden and her sight has gone.

"The quality of Biz’s life is now so bad that she no longer wishes to be alive. Pinochet didn’t go on trial because of his alleged ill-health; he was far healthier than Biz and he caused the deaths of over 2,000 people.

"What overriding factors convinced Scotland’s justice department it was in the interest of law and order, public health or national security to bring this case forward?

"It is time to stop this nonsense. I challenge all MPs, MSPs and church leaders to sign the petition, or give good reason for not signing."

In signing the petition, Howard Marks said: "I urge you with as much strength and power as possible to save this lady’s life. The prohibition of cannabis has already caused innumerable hardship to millions of people. Please don’t force her to make the ultimate sacrifice."

Lawrence Wood, the chief executive of the MS Resource Centre in Essex, said: "I am fully aware of the good work that Cannachoc [a cannabis chocolate product] is doing and the hypocrisy of a system that allows people to drink bleach to see if it helps but denies them a proven treatment." Christopher Jackman, a Conservative councillor in Basildon, added: "Biz Ivol is courageous and righteous, I am proud to support her and the petition."

Others who have signed include Dr Ian Gibson, a Labour MP from Norwich, Ingo Wagenknecht, a Green candidate for the European Parliament, and the Rev Ferre van Beveren, from Amsterdam.

Don't sweat the D.E.A.th ticks gibberish.
They're desparate to understand,
and can only say what they're told to say.
Knowing the lies won't end their own suffering.
Wondering why anyone would even advocate Ganjameds for pain and relief from many symptoms, most caused by the same D.E.A.th parasites.
Not one could ever stand up to Biv, in Life or now near the end...
Leave them alone and they'll slither back to the rocks from wence they came...

She says she desperately wants to end her life because of the crippling pain from the illness which makes her feel like a prisoner in her own body.

When we walk a mile in her moccasins ...

If she could maintain a consistent supply,
of the strain of Ganja she needed to survive.
But since the politico's and copshops,
get Ganjawar bloated budgets to keep it from her,
they leave her with little choice, especially to retain her own dignity and destiny.
Cause the sheople still graze on Fauxnew rumors of reefer mad Drugczar bogeymen,
and vote for the choice, that the party tells them.
Interchanging positions in Congress with Corporate Board members.
All serving the same ends, all for the same profit margin.
While all the media sound bites are all shouting, its for the good of the kids.
Pushing parents into duel jobs, the kids get neglected,
and why should everyone have to pay for it?
Charge parents for the actions of their kids,
and keep the fucking bogus Ganja laws off of the dying patients!

And then caging healthy tokers is just as evil, lame and ludicrous.
Drugczar deterrents for more statistics...
so they get caged, then they can get raped then sick,
and then in 10 states be quasi-legal?

Pain starts in the mind,
Ibogaine, Ayuaiska or a good supply of consistent Ganja might shift the mindset.

These Neurological diseases, of a dozen different names, all on nervous systems,
in western chemicalized food, fuel and fiber using countries...
While organic cultures haven't the MS, CP or Parkinson etc.
Nor do they then "treat" it with more expensive synthetic chemicals,
that all require expensive side effect meds...
Or increase the largest smuggling operations from Mexico and Canada,
Cheaper Prescription Medication!

Fascism is a way of business, mutated capitalism and only consumers can change it.
The Ganjawar is a main coarse, the meat and potatoes,
in between sandwars and occupations.
Especially since they didn't find no commies hiding in the pantry,
shutting down the cold war business...
Can't find the WMDs or Ossama or Sadam for that matter.
But they can wreck a house and find an old roach to justify forfeiting it.
They can hissy fit away the Bill of Rights in a day,
and make free speech a quarter million dollar gamble.
Make 95% of the 700.000 busted, plea bargain away their 5th amendment right to a jury,
Then forced to take pisstest and some places "religious treatment"
Raising more statistics, portraying it was voluntary.
99% of the Ganja poisoned and plucked in eradications is canvas and burlap.
Raising more Czar Waldo statistics, the Fauxnew can broadcast,
so egomad reefer phobe politicops can pretend that there actually doing something.
Protecting the kids from hemp ditchweed rope for $20 billion a year undisclosed tax bucks?

Just Stop feeding the Prohibitionist with profits! Sign the damn petition!
They're too much a part of our everyday life, to just revolt head on as hermits in caves.
But by simply abolishing the bogus Ganja lies,
legislated with Nixons bias and foolish scheduling,
While exposing the censored Ganja knowledge by any peaceful means.
Take no shit from crazed ONDCP D.E.A.th mongers,
always threatening, diverting, denying and avoiding.
Universal laws of tensile strength, nutrition and proven medicinal value...
Ends the debate, and their profits and power trips,
climbing up the politicops ladder ruining lives of peaceful pot users.

No one knows relief more than the patient.
Who, suffering in agony would give up Pharm-aids for some weed if it didn't work?
Wake up mainstream by not purchasing from Prohibitionist and Ganja competition.
Sacramental food, fuel, fiber, FARMaceuticals.
Alternative to Booze and Hardrugs, clear cutting trees, strip mining ore
and mucking up ecosystems, oceans and aquifers...
for some foreign dictators profit...
Abolish the Ganja laws and free the alternative
to fossil fools crude, coal and petro-pharmo-chemicals.
Aborting more Christian babies than Roe vs Wade.

To the end of the Ganjawar,
feeding the Bushit New Weird Odor,
Global G-8 Trade Orchestrations,
Behind Prohibition Profits
Perpetuating this Pious Persicution of Peaceful Potokers!...
The choice is ours...
Peace, Love and Liberty or this Stupid D.E.A.th Ganjawar...
