Post Pot Laws Unjust, Ignore Facts

Many politicians cite a constant increase in marijuana-related arrests as proof they are winning the war on drugs, but I think this just proves the war is flawed. Marijuana is unfairly targeted as the devil of the drug problem in America.

One would think the priority given to a drug would be determined by its ill effects, but there has never been a documented case of marijuana overdose, despite more than 5,000 years of known use.

In comparison, anywhere from 3,800 to 5,200 people die from other illegal drug overdoes each year. Even more surprising, 14,000 to 27,000 die from overdosing on legal drugs.

Many talk about the health effects of marijuana, but long-term tobacco use is more dangerous. Worldwide, one person dies from tobacco use every eight seconds, including 400,000 Americans annually. It is a double standard to let the tobacco industry thrive on the death of its consumers. If tobacco is legal, marijuana should be too, since even by conservative estimates, the long-term effects of marijuana are no worse than those of tobacco.

Some critics are quick to cite a link between marijuana use and an increased likelihood to drive dangerously or violent acts, such as rape and assault. However, there is a much stronger link between crime and alcohol. In one survey, more than one-fourth of all victims of violent crime reported their assailants were under the influence. In another survey, four of 10 criminal offenders reported alcohol as a factor in violence. As far as driving, drinking causes far more fatalities than does smoking. Alcohol is involved in nearly 50 percent of all driving fatalities, which averages to one alcohol-related traffic death every 30 minutes.

I won't deny irresponsible marijuana use can be dangerous. But, then again, anything can be dangerous. Cars can, guns can, even box cutters can. It's unreasonable to outlaw anything that can be potentially harmful.

Marijuana is labeled a gateway drug, but I think this is ridiculous. The reasoning used to classify marijuana as a gateway drug doesn't hold up. Alcohol and tobacco are more likely to be tried before marijuana. And while there may be a correlation between marijuana and other drugs, correlation does not equal causality. As an example, there is a direct correlation between ice cream consumption and the number of drowning victims in an area. Does ice cream make people drown? No. It just happens as temperatures rise, people are more likely to do things such as swim or eat cool, delicious treats.

Marijuana is criminalized for two reasons. First, there is no established marijuana industry or political lobby. The tobacco industry spends more than $100,000 a day pushing their political interests. Similarly, the alcohol industry spends more than $15 million annually. This is why tobacco and alcohol - responsible for more deaths and crime than pot - are still legal.

The second reason why marijuana is illegal is so politicians and law enforcement officials can pat themselves on the back for their war on drugs. Marijuana is less harmful than many legal and illegal drugs, yet it makes up a majority of drug arrests. Seventy-five percent of all drug-related charges are related to marijuana - a figure doubled since 1990 - while those of cocaine and heroin have fallen by more than 50 percent. Of those arrested on marijuana charges, 88.6 percent were for possession only, meaning only 11.4 percent were for sale or manufacturing. It's foolish to expect to eradicate marijuana when the police target the users instead of the sources.

If marijuana was legal, many of its problems would solve themselves. It would no longer be profitable for dealers to traffic pot, which would help prevent casual users from being exposed to more dangerous drugs. Also, the government could regulate its sale. This could generate millions in tax dollars, as well as help ensure the safety of recreational users.

By forcing marijuana into a black market, the government has encouraged and perpetuated its underground sale, exposing the user to unnecessary legal and health risks. Decriminalizing marijuana would save valuable judicial resources, as well as allow law enforcement to target more dangerous drugs.

The Hype: Brain Damage and Dead Monkeys

Excerpted: Official Corruption: Carlton Turner

Poisoning Pot Smokers

In August and September, 1983, Turner went on national television to justify the illegal marijuana spraying (by plane) of paraquat in Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee by the DEA. He said it would teach a lesson to any kid who died from paraquat-poisoned pot. Turner was forced to resign after announcing his conclusions in public that marijuana caused homosexuality, the breakdown of the immune system, and, therefore, AIDS.

Turner quoted "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" to show how jazz (rock) singers are eroding the America "he" loves with this hallucinogenic drug marijuana! Which he meant to stamp out.

Then at the April 25, 1985, PRIDE conference in Atlanta, Georgia, with Nancy Reagan and 16 foreign First Ladies in attendance (including Imelda Marcos), Turner called for the death penalty for drug dealers.

Urine Testing Company

After his resignation, Turner joined with Robert DuPont and former head of NIDA, Peter Bensinger, to corner the market on urine testing.

Soon after Turner left office, Nancy Reagan recommended that no corporation be permitted to do business with the Federal government without having a urine purity policy in place to show their loyalty.

Just as G. Gordon Liddy went into high-tech corporate security after his disgrace, Carlton Turner became a rich man in what has now become a huge growth industry: urine-testing.

"All propaganda must be so popular and on such an intellectual level, that even the most stupid of those towards whom it is directed will understand it. Therefore, the intellectual level of the propaganda must be lower the larger the number of people who are to be influenced by it."

That is why pot users choose to ignore the laws ?
The American justice system has no time or interest in stiring up a debate on legalization of even medicinal use of marijuana ,along with (I would guess ) 90% of the population.

I read them.

They are pro pot propaganda in the same way that DARE is anti pot propaganda.

Although IMHO Ddc is a lot closer to the truth in many cases.

The DARE program uses fear and lies as coercion. Pro-pot information is closer to the truth and therefore falls into the category of education. Well informed people cannot be coerced arbitrarily.

What was left out of the report is if cannabis were to become regulated, then there could be many other dosage forms like the patch, or a nose spray, etc. The only reason cannabis is smoked is because of the effeciency of the dosage form.

DdC always has excellent posts and I always read them.

Like any information, some is good, some is bad.

The above is not regarding Ddc, just pro pot information in general.

Anyone who doesn't read Ddc's posts is probably just lazy.

If information is not true then I agree it's bad. I would also agree that not all pro-pot information is good. I do think that people who choose to smoke weed and don't at least support those working to change the laws are a bit hypocritical. Many people who smoke weed just want to be left alone and often don't even vote. Spreading information that is accurate is the work of a true patriot.

John Walters, Director of National Drug Control Policy and President Bush's "Drug Czar," announced a "25-Cities Initiative" to claim that record numbers of people are "submitting themselves" to forced treatment for marijuana.
I'm planning on attending as a representative of the US Marijuana Party and part of a coalition to combat this nation's problem at the local level.
The cities are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.
Dates are to be announced, those interested can find contact information at: http ://usmjparty.com/

Talking

Thanks all. Its my pleasure...

As far as throwing more buzzwords around, I find it boring and typical and only yet another trivial attempt at hazing the reality of the physical nature of Ganja. Again it is or it isn't. If I didn't have the actual science or products to back up the claims, then it would be propaganda. Redefining words works well for Rush Limbog and his ditto slaves but not with people searching for the truth. Maybe for the obedient "believers" willing to accept opinions. Every single item in question can be brought forth, critiqued and rebutted. To find the truth. But most who disrupt and divert also know the debate is what they want to avoid. An actual debate would separate the opinion from the physics and put an end to this nonsense Ganjawar. Those remaining in denial seem to be more comfortable with less factual info in the hands of the general population. Many "experts" love the power of denying the masses, but its all phony egotistical fluxom. Opinions are by individuals of something that hasn't been determined. Ganja and gravity have been determined. Deleting the determination by censorship or threats doesn't change it. Generalities only muck up the water to make it more difficult to get to the bottom of why this sweet plant is so notoriously hated and devtionally loved. Childish pointless whines and rants against each other also diverts from the topic. See who baits the hooks. See who diverts. They have isp numbers and many are government issue. To think these scum get paid with tax dollars to go online as trolls and general nuisance assholes. To think of all the new laws to keep us from even talking about Ganja. I find it hard to believe these cowards are actually Americans. It is or it isn't. Diverting the debate only temporarily postpones the inevitable critical mass of the peoples understanding of why Ganja prohibition exists. Then its demise. Using only cop science theory and unsubstantiated narkczar scenarios and flat out reefer mad lies to keep those afraid of the truth, accepting what their party designee puppet dictates. Only works if its hidden from the masses. As its been, before the internet. And in mho its too late to put the cork back in the bottle.

Only a fool would protest against clean air, soil and water. Only a heartless ghoul would hide the many victims of the Ganjawar from themselves. Pretending what they do is for the good of the kids, but its really to justify their minute greedy existence. Co dependenting others cause they ain't got the guts to get a life of their own! I don't pity their inner turmoil, but for most of the yuppie duckies I do, I think they don't know what they do, or don't do a thing, and continue it because they are just too damn lazy or afraid too change. Too worried about what others think to think for themselves. Always quick to blame others from the recliner but never getting off their asses to do anything about it. Protecting their jobs or miserable existence shuffling priorities on demand. Never dealing with reality, nose to the backside of the bossman instead of the grindstone. Fearing the truth is also very foolish.

As far as "smoking" Ganja. Chiloms and Hookah's are thousands of years old. I have an antique clay bowel Hookah with old hemp fiber hose I might donate to the Compassion Flower Inn. "Cigarettes" are over 100 years and Chinese had rice paper but I've never heard of them using it for smoking. I agree most would probably prefer an extractum like I make patients. Or brownies or bhang without the smnoke. If they can hold it down. I'm hesitant to accept the synthetic atomizers from GW/Bayer or Pharmos because of their fascist records. Marinol is a joke, it seems they have never synthesised anything better than what nature provides. Always some side effect or symptom to treat. Treating is the key word. Prevention doesn't pay. Nor does curing an illness. Also anything made by man comes from something dead. Then manipulated into a product. When I believe its the live enzymes and the inter-reaction of the various cannibinoids in conjunction that can't happen when the ;iving "spirit" enzymes are killed or removed. (example: Fruit and veggies vs vitamin pills). Or when cannibinoids are isolated and used separately. But I'm sure if it works even a little they will sell it. And then they will say as they did with marinol. We don't need Ganja. Even if the raw veggie would be better, they'll still sell the synthetics.

I think we should distinguish the difference between prohibition "marijuana" sold on the street and the reality of "Ganja", the female sticky kynd bud flowertops. They can be the same as many seasoned tokers can probably attest. But the streets have no real assurance. Therefore every theory the prohibitionist spout is taking place during prohibition and their results are based on prohibition "marijuana", not organic Ganja. This marijuana can be many different thc levels, strains or even adulterated like the cigarettes. It is not standardized, categorized or tested for growing methods or chemicals used. Or chemicals added. Prohibition causes this and therefore the damage. ANY negative results found are the soul responsibility of the narkczar. There is no logical reason for this outside of profits. Any "moral" reasoning is ludicrous. Then and only then can we begin to test the population for effects of Ganja use in the US, without the bogus interpretations from the "marijuana" used. "Marijuana" would virtually disappear from the scene if these fascist laws were abolished. Until then we have the foreign countries using for thousands of years test results. And nothing shows up as the claims the reefer madness mongers make.

Any injuries would normally be the responsibility of the individual user, if it was treated as a normal vegetable. And taught and experienced in a proper setting. Removing as much ignorance as possible, also the liability. Since true Ganja has no known properties to "harm" the user, including by smoking, outside of the paper in a joint. But even so, with the expectorant properties no one has ever been diagnosed with disease from smoking. It also opens small airways blocked, as by asthma. Outside of the narkczar dictatorship on Ganja use in the US, the 163 million users worldwide, toking real Ganja and not prohibition "marijuana", have none of the reefer mad injuries given by the US liars. Same as US tobacco products. Just the chemical cigs sold here, to us, do damage. But used as comparisons by the narkczar. Surreal puritans, what a concept. So prohibition is the cause of any problems with Ganja. Ignorance and naive buyers get hurt because of the narkczar. Because of Klintoon Bushit Reagan Ford Nixon lies and perpetuation. Not because of Ganja. When education is outlawed only outlaws will be educated. Censoring the schools and media isn't new. Legislating for the good of profits isn't either. Chickenhawk war mongers are as old as war itself... By abolishing the bogus laws on Ganja, individuals can process it for themselves or at Farmers Markets. Or packaged and sold as tobacconist do. Specialty blends from around the world. With thc content and size listed. This packaged "product" could be taxed to help in the reconstruction of the damaged country by the hands of the fascist. Hemp will be free to use by default. Medicinal Ganja extracts and quality assurance can be maintained by Cannabist in Apothecaries as it was for hundreds of years.
No problem mon...

CANN ABIS LUNG CLEANER AND EXPECTORANT

Cannabis is the best natural expectorant to clear the human lungs of smog, dust and the phlegm associated with tobacco use. Marijuana smoke effectively dilates the airways of the lungs, the bronchi, opening them to allow more oxygen into the lungs. It is also the best natural dilator of the tiny airways of the lungs, the bronchial tubes - making cannabis the best overall bronchial dilator for 80% of the population (the remaining 20% sometimes show minor negative reactions). (See section on asthma - a disease that closes these passages in spasms - UCLA Tashkin studies, 1969-97; U.S. Costa Rican, 1980-82; Jamaican studies 1969-74, 76.) Statistical evidence - showing up consistently as anomalies in matched populations - indicates that people who smoke tobacco cigarettes are usually better off and will live longer if they smoke cannabis moderately, too. (Jamaicna, Costa Rican studies.) Millions of Americans have given up or avoided smoking tobacco products in favor of cannabis, which is not good news to the powerful tobacco lobby - Senator Jesse Helms and his cohorts. A turn-of-the-century grandfather clause in U.S. tobacco law allows 400 to 6,000 additional chemicals to be added. Additions since then to the average tobacco cigarette are unknown, and the public in the U.S. has no right to know what they are. Many joggers and marathon runners feel cannabis use cleans their lungs, allowing better endurance. The evidence indicates that cannabis use will probably increase these outlaw American marijuana-users' lives by about one to two years - yet they may lose their rights, property, children, state licenses, etc., just for using that safest of substances: cannabis.

Every U.S. commission or federal judge who has studied the evidence has agreed that cannabis is one of the safest drugs known. With all its therapeutic uses, it has only one side effect that has been exaggerated as a concern: the "high." The DEA says this is not acceptable, so cannabis continues to be totally illegal in utter disregard for both doctor and patient. Every day we trust physicians to determine whether the risks associated with therapeutic, yet potentially dangerous drugs are acceptable for their patients. Yet, doctors are not allowed to prescribe the herb that Federal Judge Francis Young in 1988 called "one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man." We don't put out doctors in charge of stopping violent crimes. The police, prosecutors and prison guards should not be in charge of which herbal therapies people may use to treat their personal health problems.

"Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise."
From Benito Mussolini contributing to the "London Sunday Express," December 8, 1935

Missing Nixon tapes
excerpts begin with the Nixon doctrine on why marijuana is much worse than alcohol: It is because people drink "to have fun" but they smoke marijuana "to get high." This distinction was evidently enormously significant to Nixon, because he repeats it...

"You're enough of a pro," Nixon tells Shafer, "to know that for you to come out with something that would run counter to what the Congress feels and what the country feels, and what we're planning to do, would make your commission just look bad as hell."

The Shafer Commission of 1970
Marijuana does not lead to physical dependency, although some evidence indicates that the heavy, long-term users may develop a psychological dependence on the drug"

"You know, it's a funny thing, every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing marijuana is Jewish. What the Christ is the matter with the Jews, Bob?

Clinical experience suggests that it is helpful for patients with severe nausea and vomiting, arthritis, glaucoma, muscle spasms, premenstrual syndrome, seizure disorders, the AIDS weight loss syndrome, asthma, fibromyalgia, Tourette's syndrome, and depression, to name a few.
Many thousands of patients are using cannabis to treat these and other disorders. Given the legal risks, they would not be doing this if they did not believe it was helpful to them. These patients are in urgent need of a legal accommodation that allow them to use a medicine which they know is important to their well-being.
