England OKs Recreational Marijuana Oregon says Tax it!

England OKs Recreational Marijuana
September 12, 2003
By United Press International
Source: Washington Times

London -- Smoking marijuana will no longer be against the law under new British government plans, the London Mirror reported Friday. Beginning January, recreational users of the drug will be free from prosecution, unless they are pushers, the newspaper said.

Cannabis will be downgraded to a Class C drug, although people smoking near schools and playgrounds will face arrest and have the cannabis confiscated. Read More... http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread17285.shtml

Police Will Let Cannabis Users Off With Warning
September 11, 2003
By John Steele, Crime Correspondent
Source: Daily Telegraph UK

Police should no longer arrest the majority of people found in possession of small amounts of cannabis for personal use, according to new guidelines issued yesterday by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Instead, offenders should receive a verbal warning on the street after giving their details and admitting possession of the drug, which would then be confiscated. Such a warning will not constitute a criminal record.

It’s Time To Set The Wheels in Motion
September 12, 2003
By Matt Love, For the Tribune

It is time. It is obvious. No one in Salem is talking about it. They should. If legislators return for a special session, they should take immediate action. Here’s the idea. It’s not mine. It’s not fresh. It bucks conventional wisdom. That’s exactly what Oregon needs.

Yeah, gotta give Blunkett some props on this, it's not quite enough but the class C status may allow further push for medicinal use.

Importantly too, the story is making the headlines (second to last) on all the major terrestrial news channels. This kind of exposure has a degree of positivity to it.

Well done UKGOV for a change. Let's have a little more.

Med clubs anyone??

Thanks DdC.
