The Black russian is all gone.. but it was really really nice! I like a variety so it was enjoyed with GWS, BlueBuddha and a bit of VB...We have a few br clones in veg now and they should hit flower around the end of Feb so a May harvest. (fingers crossed)

Flower is pretty much empty! cept for a blockhead and A-11 that are gonna go sometime in the next few days. Gearing up for the reno!

Mmmm.........luv, luv, luv the Black Russian. She finishes mid september outdoors, delivers deep purple buds, can get 6-7 feet tall......just an all round easy strain to grow.

beware of substitutes though.....

the aroma always reminds me of crushed rose petals.
I would love to have the opportunity to grow her outdoors but I can't see that happening any time soon.

can't say enough about alfalfa and molasses as a staple for the nutes. Just makes sense to me to feed the ladies something we could eat too. Course I don't know who would eat alfalfa? Once it ferments in the jug, it smells like a barn.

Average yeild was a couple oz's per lady using a 2 gallon... we kept em short to accommodate our space.

No beans of the original left here but we are working on bringing it back as close as we can.. (probably improved knowing my better half)

There is sure getting to be some real nice purple crosses going on out there. BR is a real good base.

Sometimes I can't resist answering questions meant for others

Sucanat is a sugar, it would be beneficial to use the molasses in it's place to get the rest of the available micros, no?
What is EWC? Executive Wall Concepts? LOL. Sorry bad short term maybe.
Kelp is definitely beneficial to the plant through the roots. but to make all of it into a one shot wonder it would take breaking down the main ingredients to thier bases and work it back up, combining the pieces you want in the percentages you require.

I can picture you sitting around in your underwear in front of your chemistry set ROFL

(couldn't resist)

Natural Kelp Fertilizer and Sulfate of Potash is a very important part of any soil fertility and plant nutrition program. It contains 8% readily available Potash (K20), which is reflected by the grade of 0-0-8 (N-P-K). Potassium is considered the “universal helper” and is a major contributor to plant health because it regulates so many important processes in the plant. Natural Kelp Fertilizer and Sulfate of Potash also contains 2% Sulfur (5) in the sulfate (5Q42) form which is readily available to plants. Sulfur, called the “fourth major nutrient,” has many important functions in plant growth and metabolism; S must be present in sufficient amounts in the soil and plant tissue to realize the benefits of N and K.

Natural Kelp Fertilizer and Sulfate of Potash utilizes kelp concentrate from the icy waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. When used as fertilizer kelp makes plants more robust and healthy by enhancing their heat, drought, and cold tolerance. It also reduces the susceptibility to insect and disease attack because leaf cuticles become thicker and tissue sugar solute levels (Brix%) are higher.

Natural Kelp Fertilizer and Sulfate of Potash contains minimally processed Sulfate of Potash from Great Salt Lake in Utah. Unlike other sources of K this source does not contain chloride (CF) which can be damaging to soil life and plant roots. Sulfate of Potash (K2 SO4) forms an ionically balanced source of K and S because of the combination of a cation (K) with an anion (SO42 ). Plant use efficiency of ionically balanced fertilizer is much higher for root and foliar applications. K and S work together, particularly in the synthesis of plant proteins and the control of metabolic reactions, through the activation of numerous plant enzymes systems.

Potassium must be present in large quantities in plants because it is a component of the fluids which flood the plant tissue. K deficient plants are susceptible to insect attack, have weak stalks, and underdeveloped root systems. Sufficient K produces high quality vegetables and tree fruits. Dark green leaves ( high chlorophyll content), high nutritional quality (high sugar and starch content, and protein levels), firm stalks, fewer blemishes (increased disease and insect resistance), prolific root growth (effective use of plant moisture), greater plant vigor, improved nutrient uptake, higher yields, and increased fruit shelf-life are trademarks of crops grown with Natural Kelp and Sulfate of Potash.

Sulfur, which is often present in plants in equal or sometimes greater amounts than phosphorus, is used in the formation of amino acids, proteins and oil, N fixation, activation of enzymes, and numerous other functions. In particular, S is involved in the formation of chlorophyll, and activation of the N reductase enzyme which converts nitrates into amino acids. Sufficient S produces high quality and yields of vegetables, tree fruits, small grains, legumes, and forages. High protein and oil levels in seed and high p in forages and legumes are trademarks of increasing S fertility. In addition to the many benefits provided by the kelp and sulfate of potash in Natural Kelp and Sulfate of Potash, naturally occurring synergistic compounds added to the fertilizer release nutrients from the soil, act as chelating agents, aid in foliar and root uptake and stimulate soil biological activity.

Natural Kelp Fertilizer and Sulfate of Potash is the key to overall plant health, nutritional quality, increased marketability, high yields, drought, cold and heat tolerance, and reduced susceptibility to insect attack and disease causing organisms.
Provides increased heat, cold and drought tolerance.
Decreases susceptibility to insect attack and infection by disease-causing organisms.
Aids in early plant growth and development.
Promotes early ripening, improves quality, and extends shelf-life of fruits and vegetables.
Aids in seed formation.
Increases oil content of seed crops.
Increases nitrogen use efficiency.
Increases nitrogen fixation of legumes.
Nice stuff it seems.

this is the point where I just nod and smile.. sometimes his enthusiasm just bubbles over

I know nothing about hydro so for cycles and that ??? (would be an interesting read)...but molasses..hmmm...my thoughts..

BlackStrap Molasses.. available at any grocery store for under 2 dollars..so economically its got it made in the shade compared to something like Liquid Karma and that contains molasses, doesn't it? The 3lb have some great articles on the benefits of molasses and alfalfa. I found I couldn't burn a plant with molasses..its mild enough to use on newborns (not something I was real comfortable with but I seem to remember using it on first potting..
My female/male ratio SUCKS so I have come to the logical conclusion I am cursed so I avoid that first pot up. )

plus...

you could make some really good ginger cookies..

Back in `06 I read something here about using molasses as plant food so I tried it. Works good for me, I usually use it as a tonic when they`re looking a bit stressed as they sometimes do when I put them under HPS.
I think you can often taste a little bit of it in the finished smoke- a touch of honey flavour...

As an aside it`s also really nice on toast with butter.

I'd think a good starting point would be 1/2 cup alfalfa pellets per gallon of water plus 1 TBSP BS molasses dissolved in warm water per gallon...Bubble for 48 hours.

Are you thinking about going for a commercial tea mix or creating some magic on your own?

Hey those plants came out cool! I have some freebie c4 x black russian seeds that I just threw in a bag to germ them. It's funny I didn't even know they turned purple, and I've had these freebies sitting around for about a year now and I finally googled "black russian" and i almost nutted my pants. I hope all ten of them sprout!
