IDK if there is any agreement about when plant sex is determined- some say it is indeterminate until after germination and that environmental factors in the early stages can influence gender.
I seem to have a very lucky female/male ratio but I have had a couple of (small admittedly) batches all turn out male on me.

Same here of late. Once I moved from bag seed to breeder pack, my female ration went up.
The first breeder pack was a Bubblicious dud. The White Widow saw one female which I pollinated with 3 males. The MK was hard. I have one female, no males. The Ice saw better success with more females than males. Seeds produced were 1 male one female. Finally the Aurora Indica also has more females over males. AI was pollinated with a single male. In the grow room: The latest batch of 5 female WW is tall and spindly. The flower box wasn't meant to hold 11 plants with solid lighting for each plant. This requires several more pairs of lights. I hope that when they start getting their fair share of light, they will flourish. It's a sign that I need to cut back production to keep the quality up. The backlog is due to a higher than normal female to male ratio. I am only starting 6 seeds at a time. Cut 2nd AI. Two left in flower. Each yeild weighs 20 grams off the vine. Picked out my 1st seeds. Operation successful. In the veg area. I had started a tray of WW. About 66. With only 120 watts and the plastic dome of the seed tray, it was a disaster and glad to be rid of it. However one seedling was save and transplanted. 5 more WW seeds started. Master Kush really looked fuller than I had spoke of, but will remain a long term tenant in the flowering box. Outside I have about 6 seedlings, with another 20 seeds started. Sorry folks. I really need a bounty this fall. |

The AI must have been over pollinated. Thin, Stringy buds.
The new batch of White Widow is only about 20 days into flower and they are already covered with thick resin. |

I remember WW being very enthusiastic that way.
If you got a lot of seeds from the AI then you will get poorer buds. The seeds do take a fair bit of effort from the plant.

So far the only 2 strains worth my investment have been the White Widow and ICE. Master Kush was not what I was expecting. Maybe mine was a sativa. The AI, a NL knock off was very weak. I still have 2 more "white" strains to grow and a non white. The 2 Whites are Papaya and Chrystal. The non white is Top 44.
So now that's I've found another job, I no longer need a big outdoor harvest. That's the bad news. The good news is that my White Widow is coming along well. I did have a germination issue this time around and will only be adding 3 plant to the flower area. There's 5 females in there as it is. The remaining breeder packs will wait until winter. I need to get my bud stock up again. My generosity and a little greed got in the way or I'd still have an ounce of my own. Settling down for a month's dry time, but this flu has been quite the buzz. |

I'm still at it...
5 plants will be ready on the 28th, but I'll be out of town thanks to a free trip from the Mirage. So picking day is put back until I get home. I may even wait until after traffic court. Also in flower are 2 more White Widow that will be done August 7th. In veg there are 7 White Widow. They've got a long way to go. I'm thinking about getting bigger containers. 2 or 3 gallon pots to increase yield. I was hoping to get them free from a garden center of landscaper but no luck as of yet. Currently using 2 liter bottles and getting over 20 grams on most plants. Any advice on how to manage a plant in larger containers? The plants will be bigger than what I normally have and think they are harder to manage. Nothing new until next year. I still have some breeder packs, but the WW is killer and may be wasting time with anything else. They are White strains though. |
