the temp can be pretty warm in there, anywhere from 78-85 F. i sealed off the closet with some mylar and made two fan openings for outgoing/incoming air. i already have one fan blowing up towards the lamp to divert some heat and to releave some pressure from the babies like mothernature mentioned.
one of my babies' leaves are cracking at the ends ![]() in light of this i have moved it over to the cfl nursery. the cfl setup is closer to the window and the lamp has two 48" 25W tubes. which isnt that great i suppose, the lamp came from my garage lol. my oldest is still hangin on, seems to be getting worse though :[ i dont have anything to check water PH, but i plan on getting something soon, perhaps litmus paper would suffice.

85 isn't too hot for veg, so that shouldn't be a problem. The plants being in different mixes and 1 set doing better than the other tells you something.
Which mix has what seems to be where to start. Spraying at lights off is a nice piece of advice.

woah, havent updated in a while. Traced the problem to magnesium and calcium def.
as well as some soil and water acidity. nothing some Epsom Salt and Limestone couldnt fix. ![]() oldest is recovering, the red stems are a clear sign of a need for Mg. according to the nutrient diffiecentcy chart. lost a leaf or two and left most of the old growth slightly damaged, but shes recovering. ![]() i see alot of signs that point to it being female. cant wait to start flowering im currently down to 2 nearly mature plants and have some seedlings sprouted and potted. i think this one may be male or just a different strain. its not branching and is not very bushy. so idk, this one didnt take alot of damage before i fixed the problem, some leaves started curling but nothing serious.

Epsom salts will often help out with other deficiencies, I think the magnesium and sulphur help the plant move other elements around.

Update
Plants are growing so much better with epsom salts. ive watered them with ES about 3-4 times now, at about 1tsp per 2 quarts. i have seen a slight decrease in redness on the fan leaf stems and such.
curling is almost gone. i can see some preflowers and my blueberry sativa. im still not sure on the sex status of my indica, although they are both growing very rapidly. The Plan...revised: My plan is to now attemp SOG method, and if i remember correctly, that is, lots of small flowering plants instead of a few large ones. when my seedlings reach about 6-8 inches, all my babies will go into flowering since i cannot flower my big girls when the other are still babies. heres teh blueberry looks very female and i think i see some white hairs on the nodes: yay for new branches(blueberry): ![]() indica plant, nice big fat leaves. im still unsure as to the sex of this one, its not very bushy, and its not growing the smaller side branches that my blueberry has, although i am starting to see some small branches coming from the main stem. i hear that its really a lucky guess untill flowering but what do you guys think so far? ![]() odd green spottage, i think this may be a left over symptom of the Mg crisis. ![]() small stem growth: ![]() i have 5 seedlings at about 4 inches each. they are growing alot better then my first batch of seedlings, out of which only two survived. so maybe these will grow a bit better, a few are showing signs of curling and slight burning. i only plan to keep 2 or 3, becuase originally i wanted 4 plants, but some of them died. (had a pot-dropping accident and one of them i picked becuase it was too damaged.) in about 1-2 weeks i will begin the flowering process, i got some 'Schultz Bloom Plus' flowering nuets, water dissolvable, 10%Nitrogen 54%Phosphate 10%potash. so idk what that entails but it says suitable for all fruiting and flowering plants. im still a rookie at growing, ive only ever grown one plant but i had a friends help with most of it. ive seen alot of successful grows with many different strains but usually when i try to go solo it fails heh. how am i doing?

Cheers for the pics.
I couldn`t possibly guess the sex of the indica , once you know a strain you might hazard a guess before flowering but even then it would be a guess. Male plants sometimes show more vigour and will tend to stretch taller. But not always. The sativa is looking good I think, the indica is maybe showing some marbling (I think I mean the same thing as when you said spotting) on the leaves, it`s a bit hard to tell on pics taken under HID. You`ll get a better colour balance if you move the plant out into the room light to take pics. The marbling would usually be down to mag def but at 1 tsp per 2 quarts you`re already giving them plenty (I usually only go 1 tsp per gallon max, and not every watering). Keep an eye on the pH when you water them, too low or high pH will cause all sort of nutrient problems, the plant becomes unable to take up the nutrients. Did you say you had some litmus paper? That would work fine. Like you say teh marbling may just be a left over effect from the problem you`ve already solved, it will take a while for the effects to show, especially on old growth. I can also see on the indie the leaves are turned up around the very edges, this may be genetic or more likely also a nute issue. I`d go carefully with the nutes and everything, remember less is often more, plants don`t need that much as long as they`ve got adequate light water and air. What soil are you using?

whatever problems you are still having are probably at the roots, find a soil and pot that allows drainage and still holds water, then you get healthy roots, giving you a healthy plant. If you can get some seaweed, fish emulsion to feed them, or a molasses or compost tea you'd make the roots a little happier.
but you're doing fine; learning, having some fun etc. good thread mate. |
