Stoney's New Indoor Grow

So after taking a break for a few years I've decided to start growing again.

I'm happy to say I've moved into a new house which has a basement that's absolutely perfect for my growing needs. Plenty of space and potential. Right now I'm focusing on a 14' x 11' space which I'll be transforming into a flowering room over the next few weeks.

So right now I'm growing:
White Widow (feminized)
Skunk #1 (feminized)
Mazir-i-Sharif (aka Afghani)
Sweet Tooth
A few bag seeds
And 8 clones of unknown genetics from a friend

Equipment:
400w switchable MH/HPS
400w HPS
600w HPS
Carbon Filter + Fan
HydroHut
C02 Tank + Regulator

Soil mix:
60% Pro Mix
30% Fox Farm Ocean Forest
10% Coconut Fiber

Right now, the plants are in a 4x4' HydroHut while I decide what to do with the room in the basement. I'm using a 400w MH to veg. Most plants are about 2 weeks old. The temperature stays around 80F and humidity between 50-60%.

The largest one (Sweet Tooth) was a clone of mine from over a year and a half ago. After shutting down shop, I gave my leftover plants to an old head to grow outside. How he's kept my clone alive for over a year and a half without cloning is beyond me. It was in very rough shape when I got it - mites, VERY bad soil, and the stems had all turned brown and hard. It's slowly been recovering and and the stems/stalks are starting to turn green.

As you can see, many of them are starting to yellow and have been doing so for over a week. I can't figure out why. I switched from tap water to distilled water a few days ago to see if that would help. Not sure if it's nute burn from the Fox Farm soil (some were planted into straight Fox Farm and not the soil mix), PH fluctuations, or something else.

Any suggestions/thoughts on what it might be???

Any help would be appreciated!!

Looks like you got the makings of a great grow op there.

RE the yellowing- better water or pH adjusted water can only help. As you say it may be that the soil is a bit hot.

Mostly I suspect the pot size, those bigger pots are massive for the size of the plants.
Because the roots of the plant cannot permeate all of the soil properly yet some soil is just sitting there in a fairly wet state. The plant cannot use that water until it gets it's roots in there.

It's a bit late to pot back into a smaller pot now I guess but in future try to pot up gradually so that the plant can get roots in all the soil available as you go along.

Be very careful not to overwater, because water is sitting getting stagnant it may lower the pH of the soil as it sours. Let the soil dry almost totally between waterings (obviously not so much that the plant wilts).

Once the plant manages to get bigger the problem should cease.

Edit- If you`re very keen to use big pots from the go, try thinning the soil with perlite or vermiculite

Thanks Giles.

I was having some over drainage/over watering issues earlier. Back when everything was in smaller pots I had them placed in a tray specially built to hold 18 of the small pots. Unfortunately, while the cups had great drainage, the tray itself was collecting water at the bottom of the pots. I'm guessing root rot was growing at the drainage holes of the cup because something that looked like spider webs was covering the holes. So, I took the ones that were showing mold/rot and transplanted them up into larger pots and threw the old cups in the trash along with the tray.

So that's why some of the plants are in larger pots.

I did give all the plants a good Neem Oil soaking earlier this week. All kinds of bugs were coming into the HydroHut from the basement including cockroaches and small black beetles. And the Sweet Tooth had some sort of aphid/mite problem. So the plants were sprayed down with Neem Oil, and I gave the soil a good soaking too.

The yellowing plants are really starting to nag at me. It hasn't become a serious problem yet, but the plants haven't grown much in the past week which worries me some.

I almost think it could be a nutrient deficiency. A few charts I've looked at makes me think it could be Zinc or Manganese. So tomorrow I might give them a very weak grow/bloom foilar feeding.

Stay tuned - flower room construction will be taking place next week. I'm thinking of splitting my 14x11' room into two separate flowering rooms, each with a 400w and 600w.
