your carbon filter, centrifugal fan and me
if you are using a bigass fan coupled to a filter and just power housing the air clean i would love to hear from you.
what are the dimensions of your fan and filter? how much space is it cleaning? for those who know- is a 8" centrifugal fan (730cfm) with an 8" x 24" filter enough for a 25' x 25' x 10' room about 1/4 filled?

The filter should have a stated cfm capacity, can't really tell by just it's dimensions. Sounds about right for the fan size though.
The fan is too small for that size room. You want (ideally) to change the air 3 times per minute. 25 x 25 x 10 = 6250 cubic feet. So ideally you would have a fan capable of pushing 18750 cfm .Can you partition the room? I presume smell removal is necessary for stealth reasons? If temperature is the issue rather than stealth, you could use air cooled hoods with a fan that size. However for that size room you might struggle to remove all smells with a fan that size. Kinda depends how much watts you are running too.

(730cfm) is it's rating
his room is 6250 cubic feet. so I'd say no, it ain't big enough. ![]() you need somthing like this.....only $900.00 ![]() J & D Mfg. Wallmaster Exhaust Fan — 48in. Dia., 19,000 CFM, Two-Speed Motor 3 Wing Blade, Model# VF48GG2....christ that's a paint shop fan ! Last edited by Roach; 07-15-2011 at 07:19 PM. |

a 25 by 3 foot partitioned area still leaves 2250 cubic feet and probably would still require a ozonator .
BIG BLUE 8 inch is our most popular model. This polished stainless steel ozonator has 3 UV-C germicidal lamps. Each with its own high powered ballast. Adjustable ozone output; each bulb is individually controlled. This redundant fail-safe feature means you are never without odor control. Great for larger spaces and faster results in smaller spaces. This unit measures 20” X 8” in diameter. Recommended fan size of up to 800 cfm. The BIG BLUE 8 produces up to 2250 mg/hr. Big Blue: 8 inch Big Blue 3 bulbs 500-700 CFM 2250 mg/hr [eco-5723] - Air Purification - Environmental Control - Discount Specialty Farm, Greenhouse & Garden Supply Store - Horticulture Source $325.00 less shipping...still not cheap enough. as it stands 730 times 3 = 2190 so his exchange of air would be once in a bit over 3 minutes, for a space of 25 by 3 feet....close enough ? what house has 10 foot ceilings ?

3 times a minute, that the marker that the big boys use? if so thank you giles. i think partitionining might be an option. watts are an issue as im already using some.
smell is an issue due to need for stealth, its a house but neighbors are pricks.. i will leave it there- they are pricks. i dont have the money for a paint fan but maybe i will buy a filter that is 39" tall instead of 24" and partition, should be fine then i suppose.

First thing I'd look at is partitioning. Make the grow area as air tight as possible except for intake and exhaust- to maintain negative air pressure. Make sure the walls, floor and ceiling are impermeable to smells. Then with careful set up you should be able to spec your fan for the wattage of lights you are using rather than the volume of the space. I'd aim for about 200cfm per 600w light in that case. If you get a massive fan like the paintshop fan above it will probably sound like a jumbo jet taking off. It will probably also use a lot of power. These etaline fans ![]() are supposed to be quiet and efficient for moving large volumes of air but they aren't cheap.

Using a big filter with a small fan won't help very much.

fg don't some indoor growers use ozone generating discs of some sort ?
or are they just glorified air fresheners ? I vaguely remember seeing them noted in a video one time. |

lmao yeah a jumbo jet would not be a cool sound. thanks for the tips. i am going to get a centrifugal one, hopefully its quiet like the one pictured. actually that looks more like the child of a centrifugal fan and an axial fan.
ive heard of ozone use too. not sure how it works, some neutral inert gas that absorbs smell? dunno.

Problem with ozone is it's toxicity at effective levels. In a dwelling place I would recommend investing the money in fans and filters tbh.
Ozone is O3. The spare oxygen molecule wants to split off and ionize any particles in the atmosphere thus neutralising airborne odours. Corona discharge ozone generators tend to generate some kind of toxic nitrous gas as well. UV ozonators are safer.
