Question My first grow

Hey everyone! First what i hope is, that i am writing at right category, because i am new on that forum and i feel realy lost right here
Sry for that.

So, let me tell you where starts my problem...

I have decided that i will plant some indoor seeds and that's what i did.
Everything worked just fine with some tutorials and informations from the internet. But when the plant was old about 4 weeks it started drying from bottom to top.

And yeah... then i dumb-head-guy get informations that plant need lights which are especialy for that. And offcourse i a had plant with normal energy-save lights... oh me smart head

So... my choice is that i will buy HPS light for growth and flowering.
And yeah i have now some questions and i will be really really thankful if you can help me with them.

1. how or when change the time of lights... i know that this is really amateur question but you know... on every webpage are different infos.
on start 12/12 and when it change to 16/8 or you just live it the same from start to end... or what?
(Question for HPS and normaln lights)

2. I heard that people don't recommend use of HPS lights from start cause plant isn't strong enought and it need's to get stronger before that...
So... when can i place it under HPS? how big or how old must it be.

3. And how the process of flowering starts?
Do i have to do anything or can i just leave it under HPS(which have blue and orange spectrum... so it's good for growth and flowering...)

4. By the way... is one 400W HPS light good for growing 3-4 plants?

Guys... really, really thanks for all answers and i hope that you won't kill me if i started a post which already exist on this forum.

1- Usually around 28 days from germination.. this depends on the plant.
Once the plant shows sex by starting to grow either male or female flowers then it is ready to flower. Google "cannabis preflowering".
So start with 18 hrs or more of light per day. Switch to 12 hrs per day once you have determined sex.

2- Once it has developed a decent root system.

3- Start the process of flowering by reducing the light hours per day to 12.

4- Yes, 400w should be good for 4-6 plants I'd say, depending on how big they get of course.

The plant looks good in the pic.

Try to get a ballast that will run both metal halide and high pressure sodium bulbs.. that way you have the option of running the MH in veg and the HPS in flower.

They look as if they have been underwatered at some point.

They lack nitrogen, though that may be a knock on effect from something else..

What are you feeding them on? What water are you using?

I buy distilled from the store in 1 gal. jugs. I get it on sale often for .69 a gallon. At that price I can do an 8 plant grow for less than 50 bucks in water start to finish. My tap water is very hard and has alot of chlorine. If you are lucky enough to have clean tap with low ppm use it.Just leave it out in a tub overnight to let the chlorine evap. before you use it.

Okay then,,, sometimes we try a little too hard when it comes to growing,,, let the soil dry out between watering,, stick your finger in the soil,, if you feel wetness down at your first knuckle, then it's NOT time yet. Also, when we water too much, the PH goes off balance, certain nutrients lock up, like Nitrogen for instance,, too much water, too low a PH,, nitro locks up, and so do a host of other nutrients, micros included..... As for your water,, I use RO or distilled water for my babies and for myself,, I never trust city water and only barely trust well water.... city water is often loaded with chloramine, it never outgasses, it stays,,, there's a lot of crap the water plants put in,, so I use quality water and add CaMag from the growshop, it helps. Your plants look like they've been badly burnt and I believe it's mainly a PH problem, get a tester and find out... I've been in the garden,, a LONG time,, I remember where I was when John F. Kennedy was shot. It was in my bedroom, looking out over my garden,, watching a nice cock pheasant struttin through the remains of the years crop,, lol... Ya keep gardening,,, you'll learn it, it just takes the DOING to get the experience... keep coming back here, there's good folks here...
