New, young, motivated grower needs tips/advice. *pics*
**Please read everything**
First off props must be given when due. THANK YOU YAHOOKA! You guys gave me not only the motivation and excitement needed to start growing but the idea in the first place. I actually wanted to grow it before I smoked for a little extra cash from my friends but I also thought it would be cool to smoke my own crop for my first time. Although the thought was that growing weed was too hard and even more impractical, but after reading a few grow guides and a shit-load of content on YaHooka my moral was raised. I'm 17, have smoked twice, and am now successfully growing in my closet. So far, so good! The seedlings are doing very well under 80 watts of plant specialized florescent light (cool brights and warm brights were more expensive than the ones I got because of a sale.) I germinated my seeds using the paper towel method and planted them in Miracle-Gro potting soil, within 48 hours they had sprouted. Because I’m still a Junior in high school I built a 3' x 2' x 3' chest and put it in my closet with a fan. I try to open it and leave it open for fresh air as much as possible. Depending on if it's open or not, and duration of the condition, the temperature can reach from 22C to 36C (71F-97F.) When watering with anything but a mister soil can sometimes wear down by the base of the stem so I usually replace the divot with new soil. I fertilized the larger 3 sprouts with a 5% solution of miracle-gro 'quick start' liquid solution. I know miracle grow has a bad wrap and that I should go all organic but I don’t really care, screw organics - I’ve eaten non organic stuff all my life and it hasn’t hurt me yet so I’m inclined to use what works best. (As for the buds tasting like shit, I’ve heard that you just flush the plants out with water for 3 weeks before you harvest everything should be fine and dandy.) It wasn’t too early (~2 weeks) to start fertilizing them either. 24 hours after there was an extremely noticeable difference in growth. I plan to fertilize again in a few days. Also, I was wondering when you start letting the soil dry out and details about that. As for the future smell - I live in Washington State close to Seattle and plan to move the sprouts outside to my excellent woods site that I have already prepared. I cannot do this until the April rain stops and the sprouts turn into small plants if I want them to survive. Overall I have 3 big healthy sprouts, one that is fighting to survive (due to my planting upside-down then reversing,) and another one that I just planted yesterday. I got the seeds from a buddy of mine and I was told they were from BC and Yakima and that he thought they were Indicia, but nothing was known for sure. So.. to the point! Is there anything I could do improve this current but temporary situation? (keeping in mind my restrictions: 17 years of age, parents around the house, 2 nosey siblings, 1000$ spending money, 3 foot box in closet that I can only open sometimes..) Any tips or tricks or general information I should know? progress continues... Pretty good for my first post eh? PS-- How safe is it to order seeds online around Christmas time from Canada to a PO box or buddies house? (Heaven’s Stairway)

Awesome, you seem really motivated, im not trying to scare you or anything, but make sure you keep the fact that what you're doing is very illegal and punishable, this is only for you or maybe 1 really close friend to know about..i really dont want another 17 yr old to get busted wen he seems to have a hell of alot of potential.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! |

If you're moving them outdoors and have already prepared the spot then establishing strong roots and a strong main stem is order of the day. Some ventilation when the door is closed will help immeasurably giving them plenty of fresh air (CO2) and some air circulation within the space will help stiffen and strengthen stems, but not too much, don't want those babies transpirating more than necessary and losing moisture.
Your temps are running a little high at 97 and some passive intakes and a computer fan or three as exhausts would go a long way to curing that heat problem in a small, flo lit box. As for chemical fertiliser, that's up to you but MG ultimately leads to salt build ups in the soil will require serious attention if they get critical, not something easy to do outdoors. Chemical ferts aren't so bad but the petro chemical industry suck major arse on a general scale, both with regards to environmental ethics and general morality. Besides, why lose all that nice yielding time flushing, organics man, any 'dro pharmer, anywhere, I'll put my crop and yields up agains them anyday of the week. Quality AND quantity, damn right I'll have a cake and eat it. ![]() Again, medium comes into play here, a well prepared soil mix is as beneficial as additional nutrience. Particularly outdoors. Drainage and aeration, drainage and aeration. Aeration is key, aeration is god, aeration is GOOD. Soil eh, dry periods eh, it's a personal thing, some like to let their girls get a wilt on before they water even but I don't take them that far. I reckon if you did a global poll you'd get a fair split of those who water until they get run off, then leave it to dry right through before doing the same, the other half would prefer to water little and often. My personal take is I like to water like I like to fuck, long, deep and like I mean it, not just a quick splash and dash. Though with this analogy where the run off aspect comes in I don't know! ![]() And while we're on soil i think I see wood chips in your soil. Not a good thing man, the bacteria that live in soil and like to break down wood use a lot of Nitrogen which could otherwise be going to your plants. The name allPROFIT sticks in my throat a little but we're non judgemental folk. Remember... Free The Weed. Not Profit From The False Economies Of Prohibition.

Peace seeker: I try to open the box as much as possible to keep temps down, and yes I have a fan in there, it helps. Thanks for the online seed ordering opinion; I hope it will become fact.
DC buds: Thanks! Youngin' pride =D! BrAneFReesE: I am EXTREMELY motivated. And the thought of being busted is scary as hell, which is why I’m doing this thing secretive and intelligent manner. As for the good work... The progress is exciting as fuck. Sureshot: Thanks for the long and helpful response; I appreciate it. The stem on my biggest sprout is getting fatter but the other two big sprouts are still a bit skinny (the seed planted two days ago should sprout today or tomorrow and the one that was dying is now unfolding its leaves due to my revival.) As for strengthening it myself, I was wondering if I could just point the fan at the seedlings and just let them sway rapidly in the wind. I already tried this for a minute or two, they aren’t going to fall over, I’m just curious if this will help simulate the outdoors and help them- my guess is yes, that it will. I try to open the box as much as possible to let fresh air in (aeration, aeration, aeration) and keep the temps down. This issue depends on circumstantial scenarios (like if my dad is home,) rather than my control =/. Chemical vs. organic - me vs. the rest of the forum. Haha, well I guess next season I could try it with some of the money I get from selling this season's bud (or most of it at least.) And about the watering, you and I think alike =D. As for my name, judge however you want- I’m not going to cry about it, or get offended. I am an extremely goal/money oriented person- why deny it? Phat pharmer: I'll try it next season. Thanks! Kosh: I have no reflector but I was thinking about making one for next season. And I tried to paint the box white, but ran out of spray-paint, so now it has a white tint. Ventilation situation discussed above. And in what way should I touch/rub them? Thank you all for the advice!

age aint no thang
hey man, looks like your plants are coming right along, the best of luck to you. by the way, im 16, and started my first grow this year, kind of just as an experiment in my closet (i have very lenien parents who are potheads themselves, and never visit my room) so i figured wtf, toss in a few seeds, i ended up with a lovely lady, who is just starting to bud up nicely. so fuck it, it doesnt take age, or experience, just the balls to risk it, and some time and effort, sure a lot of these more experienced folks in here might yiels more, better bud than me, but this is gonna be MY bud, and its a long, fun time in the making. so have a nice grow man.

I was starting to get really paranoid about my dad so I moved my babies outside. The site gets moderate amounts of sun because it's in a thick Washington State forest, but it was the best I could find. The outdoor temperatures right now are ranging from high 40's during the night to low 70's/ high 60's during the day. I have fertilized them with slow release micro-nutrient fertilizer, and after I put up the 3' high fencing tomorrow I wont have to go back for a long time/ emergency watering. I also spread Cory's slug and snail killer around the perimeter of them because there are a ton of slugs in the vicinity.
My pride and joy: Another little guy: Overview of the site: Whats hogging the sun: What else can I do to improve things on my last visit to the site? Thank you!

Today I went to my plot to discover amazing growth, it's exciting as fuck. I put up a fence around three out of four plants to keep any animal that could pose a threat away from my babies.
Heres my favorite plant =D:

If Dan says its good, it must be. From what I've seen around the forum he’s an expert =D. (Kosh, Sureshot and Phat too!)
By the way guys, this isn’t the end of my thread. I will continue to post pictures and questions so don't forget about it. Thanks for all your help and encouragement thus far.

My little profits seem to be doing just all right. I think there is some stretching and in two cases I can see a bit of leaf wilting! There are two possible causes of this that I can think of. The first is that I haven’t fertilized them in about 1.5 weeks and it was 5 days a week for 2 weeks previous to the transplant. In other words the wilting could be a result of the recent change in their fertilization schedule.
The second possible cause of the wilting (which I’m more inclined to believe) is simply that they might not be getting enough sun. Spring has given the canopy above all the nourishment it needed to grow like a mother fucker- it’s taking a lot from my babies! It’s not so much of an issue that I would have to move them because they are still standing, but if it’s causing a few leaves to wilt, I’m worried what could happen to the rest of the plant. Any advice is welcome. Thank you. The first four pictures are the top views of each plant (4 total): First up is my slow growing infant, who is built like a tank (very thick stem.) Here is my favorite, most spunky plant. I'm pretty sure it's Sativa and the rest are Indica. This is one of the plants with wilting leaves; this is obvious from the bird's eye view. Here is the worst of the wilters. It's been beat up a little bit by the harsh environment as well. These pictures show my favorite little guy doing what i think is stretching. Some more wilting with a little Photoshop too! this is the 'trail' to my spot. actually its not, I’ve been very careful about not stepping on even the smallest seedling. Now fellow ‘YaHook-ians’ it is your turn to post like hell and tell me something good.
