Shiva is said to use cannabis, but Shiva is also said to have drank an ocean of poison.
I don't know about those who may practice Hinduism and also use cannabis, but I do know that there is nothing within the Vedas which substantiates its use in such practice.

Shiva is the destroyer. Shiva brought marijuana to earth to destroy our ignorance (or so it has been explained to me from a Hindu hash eater) .

This is their pre-history. Maybe Shiva didn't take that into consideration that far back.

i dont understand the whole materiality thing. if you can use a book to gain knowledge and the knowledge you gained was utilized to destroy materiality isnt that just as bad as smoking a plant and using the knowledge gained from that to destroy materiality? its clear to see, imo that this is just the eastern version of "sin." it could be argued that ANYTHING is material, so the religion locks a person into a belief that they are NATURALLY wrong or ignorant or bad. i dont agree. materialism is the way we experience this reality, to judge someone as ignorant because they choose to focus on nice cars and money is just as ignorant as actually being that person who is buying all the nice cars. meh.

I'm just pointing out how vedic knowledge can negate itself. Nothing is perfect. You shouldn't do or not do something based on what a group of huffed-up religious types tell you, you should do what you believe is right: whether any dogma is in accord with it or not.
