infinite planets in a infinite galaxy in an infinite universe
OK, they say that the universe is infinitely big right? which means that there's an infinite ammount of galaxies right? which means there's an infinite ammount of planets right? So if there's an infinite number of planets, doesn't that mean that any possible planet situation you can think of exists? Like if you say there's a planet with nothing but chimpanzies that speak spanish and the only plant that grows there is bamboo, since there's an infinite number of planets, doesn't that mean that a planet like that has to exist? (or has existed or will exist). This is really making me think. Discuss...

The universe isn't known to be finite nor infinite therefore your theory dosn't work. But you should check out Drake's equation. It pretty much lays out what you're thinking in a mathematical format.

space is vast no doubt about it...it may be infinite and may be not...the universe hold lots of secrets especially a way to travel through time...read a quantum physics book if your interested about stuff like that

Yea because everyone here knows quantum phsyics can be easily understood and self taught by reading a book

Cosmologists debate whether the space-time continuum is finite or infinite, bounded or unbounded. Most current cosmological theory presents an unbounded, yet finite universe. It's Kind of like the 2D surface of a sphere, only it's spatially 3D.
Saying that the universe is bounded, is analagous to saying that you would hit a brick wall at some point. -Hedons

I dunno. I base this on practically no science whatsoever...but when I look up, how anyone can think there's a finite end to "everything" is beyond me.
But then again, people who do think that way probably think the same of me. Yin and Yang at yet another level. |

In infinity, anything which can be imagined or conceived of must by necessity exist. Denying this denies your own existence, which is absurd.

But since it's all inconclusive, you can't tll me that "the universe is as far as we know infinite" and I can't tell you thats it's definitely finite.

everythings finite in a sense, because every "thing" is a "thing" with boundaries on how its percieved. its the sum of all those "things" that creates infinite, imo

i think he means scientifically. Not "in a sense" or how its perceived.

whats the difference? scientifically speaking, the keyboard i am typing on is, in one sense, a solid object, and in another, a floating mass of atoms creating the illusion of a solid object with which my hands interact. our universe can be both finite in the sense of having physical boundaries, but infinite in a sense that every tiny point in space is an infinite chain of points, like i illustrated earlier. there is an infinite number of actions going on in each point in space, but in another sense its just an empty point in space that i can choose to navigate my physical body through....its all "in a sense" and "how its percieved" because thats how our universe works.

The difference is in my perception of the size of the universe is only as far as I can see. Scientific instruments have a much greater ability in detecting things my senses can't.
You said it yourself: "everythings finite in a sense, because every "thing" is a "thing" with boundaries on how its percieved. its the sum of all those "things" that creates infinite, imo." Basiaclly, the universe is what we can perceive. But we can't perceive a galaxy 20,000 lightyears away that the hubble or other scientific instrument can detetct thriugh ultraviolet light that is invisible to us. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. And to add on since you editied your post: These infinite points like your saying keyboard to atoms etc etc is only perceives to be endless. What about quarks, or string theory etc. You dont know its endless, and science is trying to figure out the "theory of everthing" What the "space is made up of" But we seem to just have different approaches. Like you are making a hypothesis and basing things off that. And I'm kind of going the scientific way.

you guys need to check out vintersorg's album "The Focusing Blur". Its all about questions such as these but put into a poetic form. To quote Vintersorg, its a "Complicated network of primary views"
