Sequel to Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist: Addendum

From their website:

Quote:
'Zeitgeist, The Movie' and 'Zeitgeist: Addendum' were created as Not-for-Profit expressions to communicate what the author felt were highly important social understandings which most humans are generally not aware of. The first film focuses on suppressed historical & modern information about currently dominant social institutions, while also exploring what could be in store for humanity if the power structures at large continue their patterns of self-interest, corruption, and consolidation.

The second film, Zeitgeist: Addendum, attempts to locate the root causes
of this pervasive social corruption, while offering a solution. This solution is not based on politics, morality, laws, or any other "establishment" notions of human affairs, but rather on a modern, non-superstitious based understanding of what we are and how we align with nature, to which we are a part. The work advocates a new social system which is updated to present day knowledge, highly influenced by the life long work of Jacque Fresco and The Venus Project.

Zeitgeist - The Movie
I'm about to start watching right now!

I'm really enjoying this. These 'Economic Hitman' interviews are AMAZING.

I'm liking this one much more so than the first. This one it seems he did his homework and isn't just spewing crap mixed in with truth.

I probably won't finish it until tomorrow, as I've got two 6 page English papers to finish by noon tomorrow.

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

Good watch, very good.

I watched it yesterday, and immediately went looking for a copy of Modern Money Mechanics. I think there may be more to it than what the filmaker is describing, however, as there are alot of economists out there who, if the modern money system were truly a Ponzi Scheme, would have drawn attention to it (Milton Friedman comes to mind here).

I know that the history of fiat money has left little to argue about; it speaks for itself. However, it seems that the kind of inflation you saw in the Weimar Republic has taught modern central banks some kind of lesson, because you aren't seeing it now.

The part about how the USA and it's huge corporations use debt to subjugate smaller countries, however, really hit home. I feel this predatory banking on a personal level, with my own consumer credit problems. When you look at the way banks set up minimum payment schedules to last years, the way they go after young kids to ensnare them before they've got much life experience (not unlike the way tobacco companies market to kids), and the way they portray credit cards as the ticket to financial freedom in their advertising, you can see clearly the nature of their game. It makes perfect sense that they play the same game on a much larger scale with third world nations.

Overall, a really cool movie.

good movie, i also liked how they focused on solutions and how humans can easily change things for the better....just have to get out of the paradigm were currently in.

and i like how they focused on the underlying problems...i.e. self-interest/money/etc....not getting tied up in short term [political] solutions.

Modern Money Mechanics

exerpt...

What is money ?
If money is viewed simply as a tool used to facilitate transactions, only those media that are readily accepted in exchange for goods, services, and other assets need to be considered. Many things - from stones to baseball cards - have served this monetary function through the ages. Today, in the United States, money used in transactions is mainly of three kinds - currency (paper money and coins in the pockets and purses of the public); demand deposits (non-interest bearing checking accounts in banks); and other checkable deposits, such as negotiable order of withdrawal (NOW) accounts, at all depository institutions, including commercial and savings banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions. Travelers checks also are included in the definition of transactions money. Since $1 in currency and $1 in checkable deposits are freely convertible into each other and both can be used directly for expenditures, they are money in equal degree. However, only the cash and balances held by the nonbank public are counted in the money supply. Deposits of the U.S. Treasury, depository institutions, foreign banks and official institutions, as well as vault cash in depository institutions are excluded.

^^^Thanks. Actually, after having posted the thread, I ended up not seeing the entire thing uninterrupted, until about a week and a half or so ago. (Maybe it was the weed, but I ended up losing my focus after a few minutes and would switch tabs to play around on facebook!) After having completed it, I would agree it's very thought-provoking.
