A Deep Nobility- translated Coleman Barks: The Soul of Rumi
There are degrees of nearness. Simply bye existing,
every creature lives near the creator, but there is a nobility deeper than just being. The sun warms generally the mountainside, but it illuminates the shaft of a gold mine. The bush will never know how the sun is with gold, There are dead branches and live branches full of sap. The sun brings flowers and fruit from one and more withering to the other. Don't be the kind of ecstatic who feels ashamed when he or she comes back to normal. Be a clear and rational lunatic whom the most intellegent human beings follow. Don't be a cat toying with a mouse. Go after the love lion. You have inflated yourself with imagination. Drink in rather the soul of Khidr, who doesn't flinch when its time to die. All winter you carved water jars out of ice. How well will they hold the summer snowmelt?

Another Rumi poem. " The chickpea to the cook"
A chickpea leaps over the rim of a pot
where it's being boiled. "Why are you doing this to me?" The cook knocks him down with the ladle. "Don't try to jump out. You think I'm tourtuing you. I'm giving you flavour, so you can mix with the spices and rice and be lovely vitality of a human being. Remeber when you drank rain in the garden? That was for all this." Grace first. Sexual pleasure, then a boiling new life begins, and the Friend has something good to eat. Eventually the chickpea will say to the cook. "Boil me some more. Hit me with the skimming spoon. I can't do this by myself. I am like and elephant that dreams of gardens back in Hindustan and doesn't pay attention to his driver. You are my cook, my driver my way into existance. I love you cooking." The cook says, "I was once like you, fresh from the ground. Then I boiled in time, and boiled in my body, two fierce boilins. My animal soul grew powerful. I controled it with practices, and I boiled some more and boiled once beyond that, and became your teacher"

ahhh. Rumi. My fav:
"Be Lost in the Call" Lord, said David, since you do not need us, why did you create these two worlds? Reality replied: O prisoner of time, I was a secret treasure of kindness and generosity, and I wished this treasure to be known, so I created a mirror: its shining face, the heart; its darkened back, the world; The back would please you if you've never seen the face. Has anyone ever produced a mirror out of mud and straw? Yet clean away the mud and straw, and a mirror might be revealed. Until the juice ferments a while in the cask, it isn't wine. If you wish your heart to be bright, you must do a little work. My King addressed the soul of my flesh: You return just as you left. Where are the traces of my gifts? We know that alchemy transforms copper into gold. This Sun doesn't want a crown or robe from God's grace. He is a hat to a hundred bald men, a covering for ten who were naked. Jesus sat humbly on the back of an ass, my child! How could a zephyr ride an ass? Spirit, find your way, in seeking lowness like a stream. Reason, tread the path of selflessness into eternity. Remember God so much that you are forgotten. Let the caller and the called disappear; be lost in the Call.

When we pray for no rain we could very well be cursing the farmer. But that is also let us be thankful for things we think aren't lessons right way. Good advice Gram.

Living Buddah , living Christ - Thich Nhat Hanh
On communication:
" Through the practice of deep looking and deep listening, we become free, able to see the beauty and values in our own and others' tradition. Many years ago I recognized that by understanding your own tradition better, you also develope increased respect, consideration, and understanding for others." This is also the book I got one of my first mantra: Breathing in , I calm my body Breathing out, I smile Dwelling in the present moment, I know this is a wonderful moment. This book was the first book I really looked at to link my Buddhist driven divergence from Christianity, once I really wanted to begin to understand my birth religion, described by one I aspired to understand. I figured this would be ' in my language' so I would understand it better. This book was more than I thought, and I continue to read and find new things often in it, as my understanding of one faith, many paths, and as I grow to accept the stories of the gospels, in my own understanding. Seeing how that story is a metaphore that is broadly applicable type realizations. He writes many good books, fulled with love and compassion. Anger is a book I'd highly recommend for anyone struggling with anger and its roots. It really helped me think about mine in a different way, and to the greater extent understand what emotions are and are not. Good evening, SageTree

A jug fills drop by drop. -Buddha
Is a perennial metaphore that it takes time and effort to fill ourselves and deepen our understand. To me this is a verse of patients.

You have noticed that everything as Indian does is in a circle, and that
is because the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything tries to be round.....The Sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birdsmake their nest in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours... Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. 'Crowfoot'... Blackfoot warrior and Elder -Thunder |

"Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, and beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a strange ... Show respect to all people and bow to no one ... "

The Analogy of the Chariot
Take from a dialog on Buddhism and Self Nagasena points out that we can't say exactly what a chariot is, either; it's not the pole or the axle or the wheels, or the flag-staff, yoke, reins, etc. But that doesn't mean there are no chariots. Milinda realizes that "it is in dependence on the pole, the axle, the wheels, the framework, the flag-staff, etc., that there takes place this denomination 'chariot' ..." Nagasena concludes: "It is just so with me. In dependence on [the parts] there takes place this denomination 'Nagasena.' ... In ultimate reality, however, this person cannot be apprehended." Our atoms/cells are a group working together. What enables our bodies to transpire? What is the foundation of matter?

The Wise Man believes profoundly in silence
The sign of a perfect equilibrium. Silence is the absolute poise or balance of body, mind and spirit. The man who preserves his selfhood ever calm And unshaken by the storms of existence Not a leaf, as it were, astire on the tree, Not a ripple upon the surface of the shinning pool His, in the mind of the unlettered sage, Is the ideal attitude and conduct of life. Silence is the cornerstone of character. Ohiyesa, Wahpeton Santee Sioux -Thunder

"The world is an involuntary orgy. We are all already fantastically naked, exposed, and in love. All the violence of the world is foreplay; orgasms happen when we participate in our lives. Time is our constant sex partner."
"Fun is active faith. Faith is the celebration of "I don't know". The city is a bravely unfolding movie entertaining us so effectively we are hypnotized by it. The movie is a comedy about mammals in a movie taking the movie too seriously and deciding it is a tragedy." "Boredom is an illusion. Boredom is the continuous state of not noticing that the unexpected is constantly arriving while the anticipated is never showing up. Boredom is anti-Cruise propaganda. Cruising is an act, the realization that standing still is exalting." - Timothy Speed Levitch. In this thread I may run the risk of posting quotes form Levitch a lot, as he has become my main fixation and fascination these days.
