Feelings, whether of compassion or irritation, should be welcomed, recognized, and treated on an absolutely equal basis; because both are ourselves. The tangerine I am eating is me. The mustard greens I am planting are me. I plant with all my heart and mind. I clean this teapot with the kind of attention I would have were I giving the baby Buddha or Jesus a bath. Nothing should be treated more carefully than anything else. In mindfulness, compassion, irritation, mustard green plant, and teapot are all sacred.

A thing I always said, and didn't know this existed. It really caught my eye one day when I was walking through the library and saw that as a title of a book. It was about Kabala....I should read it because this is the second time it come up in my life and since I feel like I came upon that answer for myself perhaps it would be best not to pass something by twice.

thanks

“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It...'s very important to be aware of them every time they come up.”, Deepak Chopra

I like alot of what he has to say. I think he has some smooth marketing, but what he has to say touches on many perennial truths I agree with or consider frequently.

The method I practicer with is called Rain, which isn't a Deepak idea, but seems close to what you quoted.

Recognize what is really happening
Acceptance that things happen whether we understand or not
Investigate how you feel, body mind, ect, where it comes from, hard soft ect...
Non Identification upon seeing how things pass, letting go of 'me' and 'mine', simply resting in awareness.

Though words are spoken to explain the Void,
The Void as such can never be expressed.
Though we say "the mind is a bright light,"
It is beyond all words and symbols.
Although the mind is void in essence,
All things it embraces and contains.

( The Song of Mahamudra - Tilopa )

I like Tilopa's story very much and his interacting with a dhakini, or female Buddha. Not alot of our history as it is told gives credit to the female side, so I'm glad this is a story that does.

The six words of advice:

1. Don’t recall - Let go of what has passed
2. Don’t imagine - Let go of what may come
3. Don’t think -Let go of what is happening now
4. Don’t examine - Don’t try to figure anything out
5. Don’t control - Don’t try to make anything happen
6. Rest -Relax, right now, and rest

Thanks for the quote Scatter

My grandma gave me a little jewel of wisdom when I was visiting her last week. We were discussing gossip, and how it's really just no good to spend your breath bringing others down. She told me about a little saying regarding that topic.

She said that before you open your mouth to say anything about a person (or about anything really), you should ask yourself three questions:

Is it true?
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?

Unless the answer to ALL 3 questions is yes, don't say it.
