i'm more concerned with my own existence than god's tbh. whether or not i (or anyone else for that matter) can use a concept such as "god" to wrap my understanding more firmly (or less loosely really) about this existence, so be it. every question is proper, and every answer golden.

lol veda. I respect your views of the world and how it came to be and what is

my personal opinion of what god is that it is a colaboration of everything, we are god, the trees are god, the air is god...its all flowing effortlessly in a sea of serene void. I think we are really in for some exciting stuff in the future for science and life elsewhere... I hope something huge happens

As I define It. Yes.

If I had to pigeon hole a term, I'd have to say Agnostic and I think that is a good place to be. "Honk if you Believe and are humble with names" would be my bumper sticker. To me all religions in their ideal form are all of the same Breath. It's an archetype of humanity. I try to live close to that Breath, but find words I like from everyone's books. Ulitmatly I only be true to Pure pursuit of Loving others.

What ever inspires people to help their brothers and sisters and how that's defined isn't what I think matters the most, its the Action, And that helps you find that Connection, that you want to describe, spirtually or secularly, I feel its good to be intouch with Inner Harmony.

'Do what you will, harm none' is a perennial idea.

I believe in some form of god. Not in the traditional sense. Can't really explain it but I know something is out there. I don't go to church except a few times a year to make my mother happy. She enjoys joining with the whole family. I feel selfish if I dont go.
My form of religions is just to help others when possible, be a good person don't break just laws. I do my own thing with religion and don't care what others do with religion unless it harms others. I do have problems with the stoning of women and attacks on knowledge.
Pretty much don't try to force ideals onto others.

I know Atheists and skeptics who are firm non-believers and great, successful, happy and lucky people nonetheless. If religion or belief in a creator scratches your itch, keep on. If a religion or belief in a creator propels power-trips, feelings of superiority, sex-hating, fag-burning, war, fetus-guilting and other forms of annoyance and discrimination--then the world needs less of you! Sacrifice yourself!
I am inclined to agree with most of that. I don't mind the idea of god or someone believing in god per se, but I detest a lot of things religion has done to the world and a lot of the things people justify with religion.

To answer the original question no I don't believe in god and I think organized religion is a major hindrance to the progress of our species.

But really, with all the religions in the world, what makes one right and all others wrong. And the hypocrisy. To me it is illogical. Africans used to pray to rocks for fucks sake! This type of illogical thinking is what has led to most wars and tremendous bloodshed, and for what? A fairy tale someone made up.

Also, because we are such an advanced species, for psychological reasons some people need to feel that they are somehow immortal. They just can't accept the fact that once you die that is it - worm food.

Woke this morning and it seemed to me
That every night turns out to be
A little bit more like Bukowski
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read
But God, who'd want to be
God, who'd want to be such an asshole?
God, who'd want to be
God, who'd want to be such an asshole?

Well we sat on the edge of the river
The crowd screamed, "Sacrifice the liver!"
If God takes life, he's an Indian giver
So tell me now why, you'll tell me never
Who would want to be
Who would want to be such a control freak?
Well who would want to be
Who would want to be such a control freak?

Well, see what you want to see
You should see it all
Well, take what you want from me
You deserve it all
Nine times out of ten
Our hearts just get dissolved
Well, I want a better place
Or just a better way to fall
But one time out of ten
Everything is perfect for us all
Well, I want a better place
Or just a better way to fall

Here we go
If God controls the land and disease
Keeps a watchful eye on me
If he's really so damn mighty
My problem is I can't see
Well who'd want to be
Who'd want to be such a control freak?
Well who'd want to be
Who would want to be such a control freak?

Evil home stereo
What good songs do you know?
Evil me, oh yeah, I know
What good curves can you throw?

Well, all that icing and all that cake
I can't make it to your wedding but I'm sure I'll be at your wake
You were talk, talk, talking in circles that day
When you get to the point make sure that I'm still awake, okay?

Went to bed and didn't see
Why every day turns out to be
A little bit more like Bukowski
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read
But God, who'd want to be
God, who'd want to be such an asshole?

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

This is what I have always thought. No better way to control the masses than by putting the "fear of god" into them.

Not all religions and concepts of God deal with fear. I know its a word laden with negativity, but I think that is because of the limits people put on the mystery of Life. There are many things we don't understand yet, I'm not saying we shouldn't look, but for me personally, I'm open to the mysteries and the subjective experiance of discovery, which connects us. I also stay open to the certainty that there are things in the life that I haven't entered the level of consciousness that it takes to grasp those questions, that haven't been asked.

'A problem can not be solved in the consciousness which it was conceived'
-Albert Einstein

No one can be wrong in the conversation, this is why I love the God talk.

Love
Sage
