The modern family and love and Santa christmas is a pretty new thing. A hundred years ago, it was a drunken orgy like New Years. In a largely agricultural world, you had pretty much nothing to do in the winter but get bored, drink, and shoot guns into the air. Christmas was the national holiday for this behavior.

He originally wore a green outfit, but coca-cola changed it to red to be more marketable.
