the holy men of Hazaar
long ago a holy man passed through the town of Hazaar in the course of his pilgrimage. it is said that his eyes shone with truth and and simply being in his presence brought feelings of peace.
the holy man was seen to eat bread and drink water for his noon day meal, and brushing the crumbs from his wool cloak, he left Hazaar and continued on his way. some of the Hazaarites said to each other, "the dervish eats bread, therefore we shall also eat bread and become holy." they began to eat bread for every meal, and soon began to consider anyone who didnt eat bread all the time as terribly backward and foolish. some other Hazaarites said to each other, "it is the drinking of water which has made him so holy and beloved of God. So we too shall drink water and become holy." these people gave up drinking wine and took only water, and soon began to consider anyone who didnt drink only water for their thirst as very wicked and worldly. some other Hazaarites said, "we shall become closer to God by doing a combination of the two" still others said among themselves, "we do not know what makes the holy man so holy." and each one of these Hazaarites wondered to themselves, "how may i also become holy?" it is this last group that made the most progress toward their goal |

"how may i also become holy?"
Isn't that the M.O. of the first two thoughts (bread and water)? I absolutely enjoyed your fable nonetheless!

You cant be holy and be a man, thats not how it works, man is sinful by nature, man was born into sin...yes Christ delivers us from such sin...but that makes NO man holy...
Placing any man at the level of God who IS holy, is blasphemy my friend... |

i'm not begging anything man, just bored at work and asking questions to get a discussion going. i'm interested.
![]() what is obvious? i can support the assertion that it's obvious all things are holy, but it would only be obvious to me or whoever would choose to see it.

i got this story from a sufi
its interesting that some of the people in the story focused on only one thing the man did and thought it was the most significant. in a similar way if you focus on only one word of the story you cant receive any benefit from hearing it, just like the people who didnt get any benefit from seeing the man. |
