The book entitled " The Shack"

I'm reading this right now. My Mom recommended it after one of her and I's headier talks. Really enjoying it so far. I just wondered if anyone has read it? The is a struggle about a Christian man, and his weekend in a cabin with God, or the Trinity to be correct in this book. This is an author telling the story , helping to publish, a the story that a grief stricken father is retelling. This is supposed to be true. I'm for endless possibilities and why doubt? This book asks some good questions even on a fictional level, so I really don't care either way. What I am finding that alot of the ideas in the books are aligned with my sense of God and the Universe. This is appartently a pretty well known book in Christian circles, and is far from indoctination. My Mom and I don't express our faiths in the same language, so its really interesting because she really talked about how much she liked this book. And now I am. I never doubt that we have the same End Point in our ideas, so it's cool to actually be on the same path on my trip as she was.

Just sharing.

I read it at the request of my sister. Wasn't a fan. Just can't get into christianity. I went to church weekly or more from when I was born until sophomore year of high school. I cannot subscribe to the biblical doctrine when there are so many unknowns and gaps in the writings. so many important things unexplained.

and i dont see why envisioning god as a black woman, jesus as a middle eastern, and the holy spirit as an asian woman is so awe-inspiring. people ive talked to think that is a cool concept. i dont see anything special about it.

I felt that the allagory was made more universal and less restrictive than mainline christianity. This book made alot of people mad too. My Mom made the recommendation to me, since she know that spiritual eye sees a broad spectum of understanding, and she wondered how I felt about it. I like how it framed alot of the good lesson in the Gospels and seemed rather anti-hell, with the frame that " How could any 'Father' do that to 'his' 'child' ? " I wasn't rattled by the thought expressed in the book in a pro-christian or genal spirual understanding, however could see why some people may have never really considered some of these things.

Thanks for the reply.

Loving Kindness,
SageTree

Hey, yall know how I'm not really the religious person. However, I picked up The Shack from a friend, I stayed up all night reading it. Damn good book regardless of personal beliefs.

There are some web sites out there that look very unfavourably on this book. I enjoyed reading it a lot. It made me feel good and what not, but I don't know if it shifted my beliefs or woke me up, so to speak.

The book I really enjoyed that did this for me was "The Last Temptation of Christ"... which is a movie I've never seen, but I just thought the book was GREAT and for some reason it elevated my level of reading deeply rather than back and forth, so to speak.

I read it and thought it was an inspirational read at first. The more i thought about it, the more flaws I saw in the story and didn't agree with it fundamentally.

Pun on Fundamental....as there are many Christian websites out there dedicated to dispelling the untruths of the way 'The Shack' relates God to people...

Bet you never thought you'd be agreeing with the fundamentalists

i kid i kid... but it's still funny how we end up on the same side of things sometimes as those we aren't so sure about.

Out of curiosity could you name a couple things you didn't see eye to eye with, as I have a feeling your disagreements might not specifically be the same as Christian fundies.

cheers
